M yname is UlfWahlbeck and Ihave just recent-ly started work-ing as a repre-sentative forOgura inScandinavia. Iwork forCumatix which is a trading company with a long tra-dition of working with Japanese com-panies and products.

A couple of years ago I graduatedfrom the University of Stockholm witha masters degree in Economics andBusiness Administration. However, after working in a bank during mystudies I found it more attractive to gointo the field of technical sales.International trade is a fascinatingthing and I have always had an urgeto travel around and make new con-tacts with people. Before my studiesat the University I went to Japan towork in a factory for 3 months whichhas really helped me in my contactswith Japan today. Furthermore Iwent for a 6 months exchange pro-gram to China. Unfortunately theSARS break-out took place during mytime there and limited my travelingto a great extent.

In my spare time I enjoy playingsoccer together with my friends(amateur level) and we have formed ateam that participates in a small localleague. I also enjoy a good game of golf if I play well, most of the time Iwish I never took up the game in thefirst place.

I’m looking forward to workingwith everyone one at Ogura and pro-moting the Ogura product in Scandinavia.

How a shrinking number offarmers can feed a constantlyincreasing population is a testamentto innovation and creative thinking. Not many industries can boast theincreased productivity of the average

family farm.Hawes Agro

manufacturesportable grainaugers that givefarmers the flexi-bility to quicklymove their har-vested crop fromthe combine tothe storage bin.The device isbasically a longcylinder housinga screw, called“flights” in theauger business. As the flight is

rotated, it pushes the grain up alongthe cylinder where it is finally dis-charged into the storage bin. Themachines are gasoline engine pow-ered and the ground drive is accom-plished by hydraulic pumps poweringthe wheels.

Hawes Agro engineers commentthat in the past the farmer had to

switch belts when theywanted to move theauger from one work sta-tion to another. Theywould move the belts tothe ground drive pumpsfor transport and thenback to the auger oncehe was positioned tomove the grain. All thisconsumes valuable timeduring harvest, a seriousinconvenience, and pres-ents real safety issues forthe operator as well.

Hawes Agro engi-neers considered variousalternatives to solvingthe safety and conven-ience problems and final-ly settled on OguraIndustrial’s GT4 clutchas the most cost effectiveand reliable approach. The simple installationand 12 volt operationmade it a natural for theapplication. The GT4allows the operator the convenienceof engaging and disengaging theflights with the flick of a switch. Thehigh torque capacity of the GT4 canmove the flight, loaded with grain,

reliably. Think in terms of 4,500 to6,000 bushels of grain per hour to geta true picture of the work performed.

When the farmer is ready tomove to the next grain cart or the

next storage bin he sim-ply turns the clutch offwhile the engine andground drive systemremain operating. Oncethe auger is repositionedthe switch is thrown andit’s back in business.Hawes Agro notes thatthe convenience of clutchcan’t be overlooked dur-ing harvest when everyminute counts. Equallyimportant is theimproved safety for theoperator. Safety, conven-ience and improved pro-ductivity all accom-plished with a Oguraelectric clutch.Typical grain auger loading truck Typical auger loading storage bin

In April, Ogura Corporation and Ogura IndustrialCorporation jointly exhibited at the SAE Show held inCobo Hall in Detroit. Approximately thirty specialty auto-motive related clutches and brakes were exhibited at theshow covering everything from standard air conditioning

clutches to multiple disk racing clutches. To back up the

samples that were ondisplay, both minigraphics and largegraphics were createdwith cutaways show-ing the operation ofthe clutches.

Although the showhas transitioned overthe years from a show-case for the big three toa supplier show, it wasstill an excellentopportunity to obtainnew inquiries and toestablish new con-tacts with some of thesecond tier suppliersin the automotiveindustry.
