Day 1 | In Transit
Depart your gateway city for Zürich, Switzerland.
Day 2 | Zürich, Switzerland | Interlaken
Transfer to Interlaken and check in to the Hotel Carlton-Europe.
Discovery: Welcome to Interlaken! Join your Travel Director for a stroll through Interlaken, a lovely Swiss village.
Gather for a Welcome Reception and Dinnerwith your fellow travelers this evening.
Day 3 | Kandersteg | Lake Oeschinen
Enrichment: Mountaineering. Gain insightinto the country’s tradition of Alpine climbing.
Discovery: Lake Oeschinen. Begin yourdiscovery of the Bernese Oberland with a trainjourney to Kandersteg. Here, a gondola whisksyou toward Lake Oeschinen nestled nearly5,200 feet above sea level. Stretch your legsand delight in a gentle hike to the cerulean glacial lake. Along the way, pass meadowsbursting with vibrant wildflowers and cows and sheep lazing amid sun-drenched pastures.
Upon your return to Kandersteg, unwind overa hearty lunch with your group.
Day 4 | Bern
Enrichment: Introduction to Switzerland.A local lecturer discusses Switzerland’s history,including what makes this mountainous country unique among its European neighbors.
Discovery: Bern Walking Tour. Visit thehistoric Swiss capital of Bern, beginning with a guided walking tour. Some of the city’s mostpopular sites include the Clock Tower, AlbertEinstein House and the Cathedral of Bern, astunning example of late Gothic architecture.
Free Time: Enjoy free time for lunch in Bern.Perhaps sample the popular Berner Platter, a palate-pleasing dish consisting of meats,sauerkraut, beans and potatoes.
Day 5 | Brienz | Rothorn
Discovery: Brienz and the Rothorn.Brienz is world-renowned for its enchantingmountainous backdrop and sweet woodenchalets. The village is steeped in centuries of wood-carving tradition and you may encounter some of this storied practice, such as carved road signs and sculptures,during a walking tour through town. At thefairy-tale Brienz Rothorn Railway station, builtin 1892, board a steam train for a breathtakingride. You’ll witness a canvas of abundantforests, meadows and towering rock walls on your way to the top of the Rothorn.
Relish the fresh mountain air and gorgeouspanoramas of glittering lakes and soaringmountains during lunch. Typical regionaldishes include rich Alpler macaroni, creamypotato dishes and meat stews.
Return to Brienz, followed by a gentle cruise on the mirror-like waters of Lake Brienz backto Interlaken.
Day 6| Lauterbrunnen Valley | Mürren
Discovery: Lauterbrunnen Valley.Hop aboard a train for a ride to the idyllic Lauterbrunnen Valley; then transfer to a cable car and ride to Grütschalp. Hike along a gentleforest path to Winteregg and on to Mürren, a tranquil, car-free town with traditional chaletsand a population of only 350 residents. On a clear day, you might witness the imposingnorth face of the Eiger peak, as well as thepeaks of Mönch and Jungfrau. Take a momentto slow down and truly delight in the storybookviews before you! If you’re a James Bond fan,you may wish to ride the cable car (at an additional cost) up the Schilthorn, which was featured in “On Her Majesty’s Secret
Service.” Later, descend from Mürren by aerial cable car, traversing a fanciful mountainscenery with striking cliffs and lush hills.
AHI Connects: Celebrate Swiss Culture. Indulge in traditional Swiss cuisine.During dinner, a local folkloric singing groupentertains you with Swiss folk songs and the Alpenhorn.
Day 7 | Interlaken
Free Time: Create your own adventures inInterlaken. Travel to Ballenberg, a living-historycomplex featuring a collection of century-oldbuildings, farm animals and recreated Swiss-life demonstrations. You may wish to journeyby funicular to the summit of Harder Kulm,the mountain overlooking Interlaken and Brienz and Thun lakes.
Enrichment: Wines of Switzerland.Sample Swiss wines as you learn about thecountry’s wine industry from a local lecturer.
Day 8 | Grindelwald | Rosenlaui
Discovery: Grindelwald. Travel via train to the resort town of Grindelwald, a blissful locale embraced by blue skies and cloud-tornmountain peaks. During summer months, thevillage is a playground for hikers and cyclistswhile cooler temperatures inspire skiing
enthusiasts. Absorb these surroundings beforetaking the Swiss PostBus, part of the country’sefficient rail system, through a lofty mountainpass. After lunch, tackle the trail that parallelsthe Weissenbach River along the narrowRosenlaui Glacier Gorge. The gorge was created when an ancient glacier carved itspath through limestone and slate walls.
Discovery: Alpine Dining. Savor a deliciouslunch of traditional cuisine at the HotelRosenlaui, one of the region’s oldest hotels.The historic establishment traces its historyto the 18th century when the fledglingtourism industry emerged here.

Discovery: Brienz and the Rothorn.Brienz is world-renowned for its enchantingmountainous backdrop and sweet woodenchalets. The village is steeped in centuries of wood-carving tradition and you may encounter some of this storied practice, such as carved road signs and sculptures,during a walking tour through town. At thefairy-tale Brienz Rothorn Railway station, builtin 1892, board a steam train for a breathtakingride. You’ll witness a canvas of abundantforests, meadows and towering rock walls on your way to the top of the Rothorn.
