    Accommodation

    Christchurch has many accommodation options for you

    to consider. When you first arrive we believe the best

    choice is to board with a homestay family and experience

    the warm hospitality and family environments our people

    are renowned for. We carefully select and supervise

    homestay providers. You will have your own fully

    furnished room and share evening meals with the host

    family. This gives you a chance to practise your English

    and quickly understand kiwi culture.

    Our Homestay services include:

    interviews with host families and full home inspection

    police vetting of all host families

    airport pick-up

    a welcome pack upon arrival

    banking assistance on your first day at CPIT

    translators to assist communication

    follow up meetings with you and your homestay family

    to ensure everyone is happy and comfortable.

    You may choose to stay with your host family for the

    duration of your studies, move into a furnished hostel or

    set up an apartment with friends.

    You will find outstanding recreation and sporting choiceshere from gyms and martial arts to casual or organised

    I didnt want to study something just to get a good

    title on my resume but to actually gain the skills,

    understand every aspect, and learn from the bestabout the one thing I am truly passionate about, the

    unique field of Computer Networking.

    CPIT offered me all of this: good class sizes; state-of-

    Intensive English

    Beginner to Pre IntermediateYou can choose to study Intensive English full time.

    With a focus on speaking, listening, reading and

    writing we help you to improve your fluency and

    accuracy, as well as extend your vocabulary.

    English plus Core Skills

    Intermediate level and above

    Speaking, Listening and Vocabulary

    DevelopmentDevelop and practise intensive listening skills while

    improving vocabulary knowledge, using authentic

    material from TV and radio, as well as textbook and

    internet-based resource material.

    Reading, Writing and VocabularyDevelopment

    Improve reading and writing skills using a wide

    variety of formal and informal reading texts such

    as magazines, newspapers and the internet.

    Develop a range of reading skills such as scanning,skimming and reading for detail. Learn how to plan

    and write with structure and cohesion.

    English for Vocational Study

    Study some introductory courses for mainstream

    subjects at CPIT. Improve your chances of getting

    a job or study English for general interest. You can

    choose from, for example; Barista Training, Work

    Readiness Skills, Basic Computing or English Through

    Songs. These courses will be available in blocks of 2 or

    4 weeks and will be scheduled on Friday afternoons.

    Volunteer Work

    You may consider volunteering in the Christchurch

    community in areas like: caring for the elderly,

    helping in schools, office work, or retail and

    gardening. Enjoy practising your English and

    making new friends in the community. A good level

    of confidence in English speaking and listening is

    required. Please note: hours can be irregular during

    this course. Students must bring a police certificate

    from their country.

    Exam Preparation

    All applicants must sit a pre-entry test.

    Intensive IELTS Preparation

    A four-week intensive exam preparation which includes

    reading, writing, speaking and listening. CPIT is the only

    certified IELTS testing centre in Christchurch.

    English for Academic Purposes andIELTS Preparation

    If you have completed 12 weeks at intermediate level

    you can study English for Academic Purposes part timeas an elective in the afternoons for 12 weeks in terms 1

    and 3. This course will help prepare you to take the IELTS

    examination. If you choose this course you will continue

    with Intensive English in the mornings. This course

    provides you with an introduction to academic study skills.

    If you are at Upper Intermediate level and have IELTS 5.5 orequivalent you can study English for Academic Purposes

    full time for 12 weeks in terms 2 and 4. This course helps

    prepare you for academic study in a tertiary environment.

    Cambridge Exam Courses

    CPIT specialises in Cambridge exam preparation.

    Cambridge Certificates are recognised around the world

    by thousands of employers, universities and government

    ministries as proof of your ability to use English. These

    certificates never expire, and will not need to be renewed

    they are an achievement for life.

    English Teacher Training

    Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages(TESOL)

    Academic requirements:

    IELTS score of 5.5 or more

    Training is focused on the principles of Communicative

    Language Teaching and involves practical teaching

    sessions. Once completed, you may choose to take the

    Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) for an additional

    fee. High Level students may continue on to complete a

    Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA).

    International Training Programmes

    CPIT offers customised programmes for institutional

    groups. Programmes are also available for lecturers

    including TESOL and vocational teacher training. CPIT

    teachers work closely with each group to meet student

    Language Self Access Centre

    Our Language Self Access Centre (LSAC) Manager, KerstinDofs gained her Masters in Language Learning and

    Technology through the University of Hull in the United

    Kingdom and is an internationally respected English

    Language teacher and researcher.

    Her innovative research in the area of self-directed

    learning has led to the development of Autonomous

    Learning Guides which are highly effective. These

    guides are used in addition to your tutored classroom

    programme, and improve your reading, writing, speaking,

    and listening skills, as well as your grammar and

    vocabulary. Your tutor will work with you to plan and

    monitor your English language progress.

    We understand that sometimes a change in your health or circumstances can affect your plans to study with us.

    It is important that you understand CPITs Refund Policy and that it is based on a students Path of Study. This means

    the length of the programme as detailed in the statement of fees and accepted by payment and enrolment. The chart for

    calculating a refund is shown below.

    Step 2 - Travel Arrangements

    > Apply for your student visa. Details are available online at www.cpit.ac.nz/

    studentvisa or download an application from Immigration New Zealand (INZ).

    > Make your travel arrangements and let CPITs International Admissions know

    of your arrival details including your flight number, arrival date and time.

    > Travel to Christchurch Airport. You will be met by your New Zealand

    homestay family or a CPIT staff member and taken to your accommodation.

    Step 1 - The Paperwork

    > Send your completed International Application Form with all of the required documents. You can download a form from our websitewww.cpit.ac.nz/international

    > Please ensure you have viewed the English Language and Academic Entry Equivalence tables prior to submitting your application.

    > We will assess your application. On acceptance we will send you an offer of place and a Statement of Fees for your programme tuition.Please note your offer of place can be used for your visa application.

    > Contact us to confirm you accept the offer, make payment of your tuition fees and book your accommodation with our InternationalAdmissions office.

    To help us identify your payment and quickly send the documents you need for your Student Visa application, we recommend that youuse the Custom House payment option.
