APPLICATION PROCESS
As a courtesy to your teachers, by February 6, please ask current English, Social Studies, and Foreign Language teachers (Spanish, Latin, French, German, etc.) for recommendation letters to be mailed directly to the high school by March 3, 2017. This will give them enough time to gather information needed to complete your recommendations.
Stage One (Due March 3, 2017)
Completion of Application Form (pages 2 through 5):
Complete all four pages of the application and send them to Mr. Zevenbergen at the High School with the attached personal essay.
Recommendation letters due from teachers.
Stage Two (Due April 7, 2017)
Students who are accepted into the program will be sent a conditional acceptance letter.All students will be conditionally accepted into the program pending a final review of their 8 th
grade grades. All conditionally accepted students must have their English, Social Studies, and Foreign Language teachers send Mr. Zevenbergen a completed academic progress form by April 7.
Stage Three (Due for class in September)
Final acceptance into the program will be based on a review of the quality of your summer work assignments which will be sent to you by the end of June.

Personal Essay
The essay section of this application is an opportunity for you to help us become acquainted with you in ways different from courses, grades, test scores, etc. You can demonstrate your ability to organize thoughts and express yourself.
Write a well-organized, standard essay response to the topic listed below. Please use standard (8½ x 11 inch) size paper. Essays may be typed or written in black ink. Please double space lines when typing or write on alternating lines if using lined paper. Put your name and International Studies Essay on the top of each page.
Topic:You have been asked to deliver a lecture at the University at Buffalo on a time period and place from the past. To assist in the preparation for your lecture, you have been given an unlimited budget and access to a time machine. Where would you go? Why? What did you find out? Who did you meet? You are able to bring back with you no more than three artifacts for your lecture. You may not travel to anywhere in North America.
Teacher Recommendations
Ask your 8th grade English, Social Studies, and Language teachers (Spanish, French, or Latin) to complete and send directly to Mr. Zevenbergen in the High School the confidential recommendation forms provided at the end of this application.
