The Community• Cedar Falls is a welcoming community in the heartland

of the United States.

• Situated on the banks of the Cedar River in northeast Iowa, the Cedar Falls-Waterloo metropolitan area has a population of more than 160,000 and provides the benefits of urban life in a safe, small-city setting.

• The Waterloo Regional Airport provides daily round-trip service to Chicago for connecting flights to more than 700 cities worldwide.

• Large Midwestern cities, such as Chicago, Kansas City, Minneapolis, St. Louis and Des Moines, are within a few hours drive of Cedar Falls.

APPLYING TO UNI

Application ProcessTake the first step and join the University of Northern Iowa family. To apply to UNI, you will need to do the following:

1. Go to www.uni.edu/intladm and fill out the application for admission.

2. Pay $50 (undergraduate) or $70 (graduate) application fee.

3. Submit educational transcripts.

• Unofficial documents can be submitted at the time of application. However, all official school transcripts—bearing the seal and signature of a school registrar—must be mailed directly from the institution to UNI before enrollment.

• All transcripts in a language other than English must be accompanied by an English translation.

4. All applicants who are not native speakers of English must submit proof of English proficiency.

TOEFL—(paper based) 550/(Internet based) 79

IELTS—6.0 for undergraduate and 6.5 graduate students

SAT—460 (critical reading) - for undergraduates only

• Conditional admission may be considered for undergraduate students. You will be tested upon arrival to campus and will be required to enroll in intensive English courses as necessary.

5. Some graduate programs require higher TOEFL or IELTS scores than those mentioned above, other test scores, and supporting documents depending on the major for which they are applying. Check your specific program online at uni.edu/intladm/graduate/majors.

CULTURE AND INTENSIVE ENGLISH PROGRAM (CIEP)

Our Culture and Intensive English Program (CIEP) will prepare you for academic studies at UNI. With experienced instructors teaching small classes, you will receive the assistance you need to achieve your big dreams.

Each session provides 20 classroom hours per week of English language study and cultural orientation. You can also receive assistance with laboratory work, out-of-classroom activities and special events. Courses include:

Undergraduate Student Aid

International Student Scholar Award • Scholarships range from $1,000 to $6,000 per year.

• Students are evaluated on academic performance, proof of English proficiency, and a record of participation in leadership and service opportunities.

• Students must submit a one- to two-page scholarship essay to be considered for this award.

Presidential Scholarship• Students receive an award of $8,000 per year and participate in the Presidential Scholar Program.

• High-achieving students with a history of academic excellence and potential leadership can apply for this scholarship.

• Students must have a minimum of 1180 on the SAT or 27 on the ACT to apply.

Academic Department Scholarships• Some departments provide scholarships in various amounts for new and/or current students.

• Scholarship opportunities can be viewed at www.uni.edu/finaid/scholarship.

Graduate Student Aid• Graduate Assistantships and Tuition Scholarships

• Awards are offered by some departments on a competitive basis.

• Full awards cover the cost of tuition and provide a monthly stipend.
