TM www.eatSEfresh.com International Specialty Supply, LLC Cookeville, Tennessee In 1979, Bob Rust grew sprouts in jars in his kitchen sink and delivered them to the nearby town of Cookeville, Tennessee, to be used on salad bars. Soon, thereafter, he designed the pint container that would become the standard of the industry and is now used for a wide variety of fruits and berries as well as sprouts. Bob started supplying other sprout growers with that container and by 1980 was selling seed and manufacturing equipment for commercial sprout producers under the name International Specialty Supply (ISS). ISS supplies sprout growers with everything to run a sprout business and have sold seed, equipment, packaging and supplies to sprout businesses in over 80 countries. Sungarden Sprouts, a division of ISS, now has the capacity to produce 5.5 million pounds of sprouts per year, supplying much of the Southeastern United States. ISS developed food safety techniques relating to sprouts that have been either recommended or adopted by health regulators throughout the world including the World Health Organization, FDA, USDA, Health Canada and a long list of others. As a result, the International Sprout Growers Association nominated ISS for the coveted Howard E. Bauman Award.
