STARTER CATEGORY (NEW!)

The International Space Challenge will be split into 2 categories – Starter and Open. The starter category targets students aged 13 to 18 years old. The aim of the starter category is to allow participants of all educational backgrounds and skill levels to take part in the ISC.

We hope to spread awareness amongst the youth about how diverse the space sector can be and inspire them to learn more about the space and related high technology industries.

SPACE WEATHER

The Sun’s constant outflow of solar wind fills space with athin and tenuous wash of particles, fields and plasma.

This solar wind, along with other solar events like giantexplosions called coronal mass ejections, influences the verynature of space and can interact with the magnetic systemsof Earth and other worlds.

What is it about

Much like terrestrial weather, space weather results from acomplex system driven both by the Sun and events muchcloser to Earth.

SPACE WEATHER

The advanced technologies which we have become dependent upon in our everyday lives on earth are vulnerable to space weather and unpredictability of the sun. Examples include satellite electronics, communications and GPS signals, and even – when extreme –utility grids on Earth.

ARE YOU READY TO TAKE ON THE CHALLENGE?

“Space is for everybody. It's not just for a few people in science or math, or

for a select group of astronauts. That's our new frontier out there, and it's

everybody's business to know about space.”

- CHRISTA MCAULIFFE, 1985

FROM THE PARTICIPANTS

“Our team learned much about space research through the numerous expert talks and online discussions. Experiences gained, such as working with ROS, AWS RoboMaker, and others will be very valuable in our university studies. The challenge description sparked and fueled a passion for space exploration amongst several of our members. This will have a positive impact on their career choices for decades to come.”

Jack Naish, Team Range RoversSingapore Space Challenge 2021

“It is an exciting opportunity to be able to design something that could potentially work on the moon as well as be guided by people who have done similar. I wished I had these opportunities when I was younger as it might have made a difference in my career choice. For students it is a fun and challenging way to explore whether a career in STEM is the right fit.”

FROM THE MENTORS & EXPERTS

"I joined SSC because I was inspired to enable mankind in becoming an interplanetary space faring civilization. I wanted to start it off by joining SSC and helping the space industry solve problems and make new discoveries. My advice for all participants is never be resistant to change and never be afraid to start over again.

Shanmugam SuryaMentor for SSC 2021 and SSC 2020 Grand Prize Winner

“I am thankful to be a part of the reviewing panel for this year, and I am so amazed at

the quality and innovation behind all of the contest submissions. Thank you to the SSTL
