NETWORK SCHOOL WISHES YOU ALL A VERY MERRY
CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR
Dear Parents
As we come to the end of the first semester of this academic year we would like to take this
opportunity to thank you for all the support you have given your child and Network teachers to
enable your child to make good progress.
Our triangular partnership of teamwork between parent, students and Network International
School is the corner stone of every student’s future and success.
I wish to congratulate all the students who achieved our attendance target of 95+% in term 1.
72% achieved the target and 39% of students achieved 100% attendance.
We have had a very busy second term in the secondary school which started off with the U15
Girls Basketball Team winning the MISAC Championship for the second successive season and
the boys team finishing as runners up in the boys event held at MISY.
I was very impressed with our Year 11 Global Perspectives students on their visit to
Chaung Tha. They made a great impression on the local community and did a wonderful job on
cleaning up the beach and raising people’s awareness of the effects of rubbish on marine
habitats.
All secondary students have also completed their Key Stage 4 Exams or Key Stage 3
Assessments and their results will be recorded on the end of semester reports which will be
issued to parents in the first week of term 3.
In January we will produce a short Newsletter to reflect on our recent Christmas Concerts and
the Secondary Talent Show.
At the end of the newsletter I have included information about our new school App and hope
that you will download this to keep up to date with everything that is happening at Network
International School. In addition all our letters to parents are now emailed out so please help us
by ensuring your email address is up to date.
We look forward to working with you in the second semester and we wish all students, parents
and Network International staff a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year with best wishes
for 2017.

Year 11 IGCSE Global Perspectives Trip to Chaung Tha Beach
On Friday 25 November the Year 11 IGCSE Global Perspective group of students went on a trip to Chaung Tha as part of their examination coursework. The trip lasted three days and was part of a project the group are carrying out on researching biodiversity and ecosystem loss and have considered this in the context of their own country. The students have researched the effects of rubbish on marine
habitats and were intrigued by the biodiversity and ecosystem loss at Chaung Tha Beach in Pathein. They successfully cleaned a stretch of one mile and collected over 45 bags of rubbish. They were also approached by the local police and were thanked for the work they were doing. In addition, many local
people joined in to help and discuss the situation.

GIRLS U-16 BASKETBALL EVENT HELD AT HORIZON
On the day of the match, we saw many schools that participated in the event such as MIS, ISY, ISM, Horizon and our school, Network. The name of the event is Horizon Streetball and it took place in Horizon School on the 19th and 20th of November. We’ve never participated in this event and this was our first year. Unexpectedly, we got second place and sadly, lost to ISY in the final, therefore they took the prize. The players for our team were Angeline, Yati, May and myself, Jade. We are very proud of ourselves for winning against all the other schools who have experienced this event and are beyond grateful for the teachers that trained us all these years. The Last Day of Term 1
To celebrate International Day and a brilliant first term here at Network Secondary we had a day of activities to send the students off on their well deserved break. To start the day, the teachers challenged the students to a range of sporting competitions with the teachers taking the crown (but only just!). Activities included a treasure hunt, dodge ball and handball. After the students enjoyed a hearty shared snack in their tutor groups, we all came back together for an international quiz run by our house captains Jade, Min Nyi, Kaung Khant Min and Apple. However this was no ordinary quiz. It’s not every day you see students feeding blindfolded teachers and staff making wedding dresses out of toilet roll! The day was a great success and we look forward to more celebrations at the end of term 2.
