A city with past

• With more than 2000 years of history, the first enclave of the city dates back to the age of the Tartessos.

• It was originally named Hispalis by the Romans, and thoughout its history it has suffered from a number of invasions.

• In 712 A.D. it was conquered by the muslim empire, and it remained the capital of the Al-Andalus empire until the reconquest in 1248.

University of Seville: more than 500 years of history

• 1256: King Alfonso X conceded upon the city of Seville the privilege of founding “a college and general schools for Latin and Arabic”.

• 1502: the Catholic Kings bestowed a Royal Seal upon the Town Hall of Seville, which granted license to found a General College with “professorships to read Theology, Phylosophy, Law , Medicine and Arts”

• 1505: the archdeacon Maese Rodrigo Fernández de Santaella obtained a Papal Bull from Pope Julius II, which authorised the construction of a College and University in the city of Seville.

Cooperation and Development Office

The office was created in July of 2008, fullfulling the solidarity obligations laid out in the statutes of the University.

It has adhered to the Code of Conduct for cooperation and development, approved by the Conference of Rectors for Spanish Universities (CRUE)
