The International Relations Office attempts to provide an unparalleled multicultural edge to the excellent business education offered at MDI.

MDI nurtures a vision to be a truly global business school. As economic networks gained eminence over geographic boundaries, MDI realized the emerging role of international markets and the need for B-Schools to groom managers with an international perspective. The process of building linkages began more than a decade ago and today MDI has partnerships in almost every continent of the globe. In fact, MDI is the first B-School from India to partner with a B-school in Africa.

As of now, the Institute has collaborative partnerships with leading B-Schools in several regions of the world. One of the criteria for engaging in a partnership is that the particular B-School is among the front rankers in its country and has quality as well as an extensive international agenda for its activities.

The international partnerships encompass a gamut of interests such as joint research, executive education, development of academic material, collaborative work on projects of international scope, faculty exchange and student exchange.

In 2006, MDI was the first Indian business school and the second in Asia to be accredited by AMBA, London, United Kingdom. In 2011, all its six programmes, namely, Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM), Post Graduate Programme in Human Resource Management (PGP-HRM), Post Graduate Programme in International Management (PGP-IM), Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (also called National Management Programme, NMP), and Post Graduate Programme in Energy Management (PGP-EM) were awarded reaccreditation by AMBA – again a first in India.

MDI is also accredited by the South Asian Quality Assurance System (SAQS).

The thriving international exchange programme accounts for one out of every five students enrolled in the PGPM & PGP-HRM getting an opportunity to study abroad for a full term. In turn, students from the overseas partner institutions do one term or more at the MDI campus. The PGPIM is essentially a double degree

Student Exchange Programme

The Student Exchange Programme (SEP) enhances the competencies of students by promoting a better understanding of management challenges in an interdependent globalized environment. An exposure to global and multi-contextual circumstances is much needed by transnational companies and Indian corporate houses. SEP provides a unique opportunity for the students to enrich their academic experience and widen their career horizons.

Students with academic and/or professional interest in other parts of the world and are willing to understand the global context of business, can apply for the student exchange programme. Depending on the nature of the collaborative partnership, a student can study for one or two terms in these foreign institutions in lieu of his/her study term(s) at MDI. Details on the selection process and various opportunities will be made available to interested students when they join MDI. Selection of students for exchange programme is done by MDI.

Scholarships

A number of international scholarships are available for the students of MDI who go on the exchange programme to MDI’s partner Universities/Business Schools. These include Eiffel Scholarships for students going for dual degree programme in France, scholarship from French Embassy in India, and DAAD Scholarship for HHL Leipzig, Germany.

In addition, students from time to time get s c h o l a r s h i p s / f u n d i n g support from Copenhagen Business School, Denmark and Aarhus School of Business, Denmark.

I am now almost at the end of my exchange, I can definitely say that this experience was more than great for me. Spending three months in India gave me the chance to get to know this amazing country, its incredible culture and the great variety of beautiful experiences it can offer. I will never forget the sunrise at the top of the golden city, the majesty of the Mehrangarh fort in Jodhpur, the camel ride in the middle of the Thar desert and the unique emotion that I felt being surrounded by the golden temple atmosphere for the first time.

There are many learnings I will take back to Italy. But if I have to choose the main one I will say the importance of enjoying the little things, and let me say that the campus life was “my teacher”. Every moment of the day is perfect to have a walk around the campus appreciating its green surroundings and that walk would probably end with a chai and a butter cheese toast at the Sharma canteen. Located close to the Sharma canteen there is a huge library with a vast collection where I used to read the cases before the class started. Sharma is not the only place to eat, the canteen of the college serves a good variety of Indian food every day. When I got tired of the rice and masala, a common room with a common kitchen is given to all the exchange students to experiment with different kind of international food and share moments together. For the sports enthusiast and for those who feel guilty after all the food experimentations there is a well-equipped gym to work out, but the beauty of the campus will always suggest you better doing the work out open air, not to waste a single moment of the shiny Indian sun.

I enjoyed my stay at MDI and the entire experience was really good. I also enjoyed the travel aspect during my stay in India. We as a group have been to different places from the northern part of India to the south. It was a great opportunity to learn about the country, its culture and start new friendships with the people here.

It was interesting to learn how business was carried out in India and the work ethics of people here, I hope this knowledge will be useful to me in the future. My entire duration of stay at MDI was pleasant and memorable, members of the International Relations Committee made sure I faced no trouble during my initial days at MDI. They also made sure I was constantly updated about the college life and events. The facilities provided at the college were also very good, including the IRC common room equipped especially for the exchange students.

Summing up I would strongly recommend any student to choose India as their exchange destination. It was a wonderful cultural experience.

I really loved staying in India during these 3 months. I really believe 3 months is not enough to visit the entire country. I had a chance to meet and interact with both Indian students and exchange students from other countries. Even simple things like staying in campus and taking a walk around was enjoyable. The courses offered were interesting and the respective faculty members were excellent. The common room offered to exchange students is a great initiative. It helped all the students get together and study, cook or watch a football game together. Travelling across the country was an unforgettable experience. We travelled from Leh in the north to Kerala in the south and to find such diverse cultures within the same country was something unique. Staying for 3 months in MDI and in India was an experience of a lifetime and I will not hesitate to visit again, given the opportunity.
