Olympic Peninsula - Chapter 74 - Sequim, Washington
March 2019
President’s Message
Greetings Footprinters,
Seems most of us made it through all the weather OK.
Some people are still dealing with damage from the wind
storm and the snow on top didn't improve things. Best
wishes to those still enduring. But things are looking up.
My crocus’ are blooming and the dog is starting to shed.
Our next dinner is March 11 and it looks a lot like
corned beef and cabbage. Dessert will be as always
whatever you bring.
We have a few things coming up in the near future
worth mentioning. Chapter Officer nominations and elec-
tions are very soon. Please feel free to nominate and
elect anyone not attending dinner. Miss two meetings and
you too can be President. Also, our Officer of the Year
Dinner is in May and the paperwork is going out soon.
When I was a kid it seemed like I was surrounded by
Heroes. I've known a lot of real heroes, papered and un-
registered. But despite their pedigree they all pretty much
said “I was just doing what was right. ‘or’ I was just doing
my job.” There are quite a few military combat heroes. But
as a kid growing up around Air Force bases, my favorites
were the test pilots who seemingly crashed weekly in the
desert. In the late 50s and early 60s sonic booms were
still a novelty. There was no mystery when they cranked
something up. Most of the real X-Men later ended up in
capsules or shuttles or on the moon. Those days will nev-
er return, and some heroes are men of their time and be-
come of their time alone and unfortunately fade away.
We still have heroes but they just don't seem as recog (continued on page 3)

Good Luck ! Footprinter/Firefighter Jake Patterson of
CCFD2, his team and all firefighters partici-
pating in the annual Firefighter Stairclimb.
The stairclimb is March 10th in Seattle. The
challenge is to climb 69 flights of stairs in full
gear, including a self contained breathing appa-
ratus. All this effort goes to support the Leuke-
mia * Lymphoma Society.

nizable any more. In a world where everyone
gets a trophy and the perverts of my child-
hood are royalty it becomes a bit more difficult
to find them. Maybe they just haven't run off
the cliff with the rest of society. Maybe they
try to do what is right or just do their jobs well.
What should seem normal has become the
exception.
I probably would not have been a good
cop. I get annoyed and stay that way too long.
Too much customer contact being a cop. And
Fireman, I get too close and stay too close to
the fire. Not a great survival strategy and it
endangers other people. EMT, too much of a
mechanic. For all of those reasons I admire all
those people who do those jobs well. Some
things concern me about the people I admire.
In the past I've talked about opiates and Nar-
can. A year or so ago there were a few ad-
dicts who had been resurrected maybe three
times. But now I hear there are more than a
few that have been resurrected 5 or 6 times
by the same individuals, who knows how
many times by a department? Apparently,
these people can’t learn by example or per-
sonal experience. Used to be, people like that
would be locked up. What good effect does it
have on our Resurrectionists. I'm thinking Not
Good. At best it perverts the whole concept
that life has meaning, and value and I doubt
any of our frequent fliers would submit to a Do
Not Resuscitate bracelet.
