international content in U.S. education must be addressed. On one hand the curricula must be

internationalized at all levels, on the other hand studies must be bolstered to produce advanced

Road Map to SuccessGlobal Preparedness—the first leg of the trip--------- Students

will : explore world cultures---Kdgn---12th grade be conversant in other Languages---4th –12th

French ,German, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese

be proficient in technology-interdisciplinary approach—multiple uses & instruments

Global preparedness-----Students will:

be managers of information be able to determine reliability, interpret

information, validate information be emotionally intelligent ( EQ)—Good

(a) Mastery of word processing skills at in the early grades.

(c) expand the list of technological items available in every building and monitor for

appropriate use

2007 (winter /spring) Initiate a review of existing curriculum and programs to determine inclusion of appropriate 21st century skills

of International Education Spring (early) 2007– Assign budgetary information for recommendations.

Fall 2007– Elementary world language/ cultural program begins

Fall 2007 Integrate tier 1 of 21st century skills k-12

Spring 2008- Assess year one of 21st century skills infusion

Digital Age Literacy--- “Are we there yet?”Beginning fall 2007 the 21st century skills will be integrated into all curricula as listed below: Global Awareness Information Literacy Visual Literacy Scientific Literacy Basic Literacy Multicultural Literacy Technological Literacy Economic Literacy

21st Century Success Depends upon-------- A broad range of proficiencies included in the

strategic plan after input from our broader school family. This will be established by the beginning of the 2007/2008 school year.

What do we need to do to make this happen? Follow the mission of the district and support from the IAB.

Keep the following goals of the IAB in front of us:

As a district we will develop and implement strategies

for students, community, educators and parents which

will foster the following: appreciation of and sensitivity toward global cultures incorporation of essential reasoning and thinking

skills into all existing and new programs, integrate technology across the curriculum enabling

our students to become responsible citizens of the 21st Century.

International Education—Conversant in other languages

Languages : 2007- 08 French—4 thru 12 Spanish--- 4 thru 12 German---9 thru 12 Japanese---4 thru 12 Chinese---4 thru 12 American Sign Language (ASL) grade 6

(ASL is recognized as a foreign language in forty states)

World Language Learning---Standards Communication: conversant, understand and

interpret on a variety of subjects. Present information

to an audience. (world language classes)

Cultures: Gain knowledge and understanding of

other cultures. Understands relationships between

practices, perspectives and products and perspectives

of the cultures studied. (integrated into all subject areas at all grade levels)

Implementation: Add an international studies course Infuse 21st century skills in appropriate areas of the

curriculum Increase technology in all classrooms Increase project based learning Examine pedagogy to support 21st century skills Partner with schools in other countries and or states Revise curriculum policy to include 21st century skills

Establish a service component for the high schools
