REGIONAL INFORMATION

Brisbane is the capital city of Queensland, with a metropolitan population of 2.3 million, making it the third-largest city in Australia.

The city is situated along the Brisbane River, and its eastern suburbs line the shores of Moreton Bay. The greater Brisbane region is on the coastal plain east of the Great Dividing Range. Brisbane’s metropolitan area sprawls from Caboolture in the north to Beenleigh in the south, and across to Ipswich in the south west.

There is a well-serviced public transport system in Brisbane which is known as Translink. There are three main types of public transport; train, bus and river ferry (boat).

SINCE I WAS A KID I ALWAYS LIKED CARS. MY FAVOURITE THING I’VE LEARNT IS ENGINES.

ENGINES ARE LIKE THE HEARTS OF CARS; THEY ARE VERY COMPLICATED AND PRECISE. I REALLY LIKE THE PRACTICAL STUFF. TAFE QUEENSLAND GIVES US THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO PRACTICAL PLACEMENT IN A REAL WORKSHOP. AS A STUDENT HERE, YOU GET TO DO LOTS OF REALLY GREAT THINGS RATHER THAN JUST SITTING INSIDE READING BOOKS.

TAFE QUEENSLAND HAS A REALLY GOOD REPUTATION. I HEARD FROM A LOT OF PEOPLE IT HAS THE BEST EDUCATION FOR AUTOMOTIVE TRAINING.

THE FACILITIES ARE CLEAN AND NEW AND THEY MAINTAIN THEM REALLY WELL. BRISBANE IS A PEACEFUL PLACE. IT’S QUIET AND I CAN RELAX AND I REALLY LIKE THE WEATHER.

NATALIE KARLSSON (SCANDINAVIA) – FITNESS

I’VE ALWAYS BEEN INTERESTED IN FITNESS TRAINING AND TRAVELLING.

I SPOKE TO A FORMER TAFE QUEENSLAND STUDENT WHO LOVED HER TIME HERE AND I THOUGHT, ‘IT’S THE PLACE TO BE!’

THERE ARE A LOT OF OPPORTUNITIES HERE. I’M NOW WORKING FOR ONE OF MY TEACHERS AS A GROUP TRAINER.

I LOVE THE PEOPLE AND THE CULTURE. IT’S PARADISE AND IT FEELS LIKE HOME.

YOUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME

Each region offers different accommodation options to suit every lifestyle and budget, including temporary accommodation such as hotels, motels and youth hostels upon arrival and permanent rentals for long term living.

Homestay is also an option. It is one of the best ways to learn about Australians and their way of life.

YOUR TAFE QUEENSLAND INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SUPPORT OFFICER (ISSO) CAN HELP YOU FIND THE BEST OPTION FOR YOUR NEEDS.

If dependent children accompany you to Australia, you must enrol them in school. International tuition fees will apply. Go to the Education Queensland International website, eqicomau for more information.

LOOKING AFTER YOUR HEALTHThe Australian Government requires that all international students in Australia maintain medical cover through an approved Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) provider for the full period of their student visa.

Your OSHC will help to pay for any medical or hospital care you may need while studying in Australia. It also contributes towards the costs of most prescription medicines and ambulance expenses in case of an emergency.

TAFE Queensland can organise this on your behalf or you may choose your own health care organisation.

If you need medical help in Australia, you should go to a doctor’s surgery that can send the bill directly to your OSHC insurance provider.
