Since 2008, Jinahie has competed in HBO’s Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam documentary series produced by Russell Simmons. She has had the unique opportunity to share the stage with Grammy-nominated artists such as John Mayer, The Roots, Common, Smokey Robinson, Mos Def and Talib Kweli. In addition, she has graced some of the most revered stages such as the Nokia Theater, Kennedy Center, Lincoln Theater for the Hip-Hop Theater Festival, as well as feature spots on BET’s Lyric Cafe and has even performed for Michelle Obama. Jinahie was recently one of four poets selected to perform at the Sundance Film Festival last year and was the champion of Graffiti’s DC’s first annual Art of War Slam. Jinahie (“my wings” in Arabic) is an extraordinarily gifted, Egyptian-American spoken word poet. Since 2008, Jinahie has competed in HBO’s Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam documentary series produced by Russell Simmons. She has had the unique opportunity to share the stage with Grammy-nominated artists such as John Mayer, The Roots, Common, Smokey Robinson, Mos Def and Talib Kweli. CAMPUS ACTIVITIES BOARD

STUDENT ADVISORIY BOARD

CAB is a voluntary student organization, which provides most of the social and cultural events on campus. CAB is open for all students to join because they are always looking for student input and participation. They sponsor a variety of comedians, musicians and entertainers on campus. Some of the events that CAB hosts throughout the year include the Fall and Spring Fests, Lunchtime Lives, 3rd Thursday and Breakfast with Santa.Meetings this month:April 4 and 18 @ 5pm in S103.For more information, stop by Student Activities or check us out on Facebook!

The Student Advisory Board (SAB) serves as a representation for all GCC students and their collective interest. SAB promotes the cultural, education and social needs of the entire campus community. They work closely with the college administration and staff to ensure that the voice of the student body is heard. They also coordinate and fund most of the student clubs and organizations on campus.

The Leadership Certificate Program seeks to prepare students for leadership roles and responsibilities on campus and in their future careers, communities and families. The mission of this program is embedded in a commitment to developing and enhancing a personal philosophy of leadership, a greater sense of self, an increased ability to relate to others and deeper understanding of inherent responsibilities of active citizenship. This mission is accomplished through applied use of knowledge, skills, and understanding of specific leadership theories, concepts, models, and modern leadership issues through a series of training workshops, service learning, volunteer work, and active engagement in the college community.
