International College of Psychosomatic Medicine
The International College of Psychosomatic Medicine is organizing its First Congress, to be held at the Camino Real Hotel,Guadalajara, Mexico, from December 5 to 8,1971, immediately after the 5th World Congress of Psychiatry, Mexico City, November28 to December 4, 1971.
The College was founded at Buenos Aires,during the Third International Congress ofPsychosomatic Medicine, held in January,1970, with the following purposes and aims:
Section 1. The objectives of the International College shall be to promote andadvance the principles of psychosomatic medicine to achieve the highest standards of research, education and exchange of scientificinformation. In its efforts to meet the primaryobjectives the International College shall:
1. Create an International forum for theexchange of information concerning the psychosomatic field through the following media:
a. Correspondence and personal contactsbetween its members; a Directory of Members and their publication bulletin shall beavailable to each member in at least twolanguages: Spanish and English.
b. The exchange of lectures and teacherswill be accomplished by Speakers Bureauwithin the jurisdiction of the Education Committee. Speakers will be available to all member organizations (when formed) and otherinstitutions.
c. Publication of an official journal of theCollege: Investigation Psicosomatica, inSpanish, with abstracts in four languages (thepublication to start in late 1971). It is plannedthat this Journal may be published in otherlanguages.
2. Organize the International Collegia( congresses) which will feature scientific sessions on the subject of recent developmentsand advances in the field of psychosomaticmedicine (the First Congress to be held inGuadalajara, Mexico December S-8th, 1971.)
3. Organize regional meetings to be heldin addition to the International Collegia.

4. Organize research activities in specificsubjects simultaneously in different countrieson a cooperative and collaborative basis inorder to compare the roles of transculturalvariables in the causation of psychosomaticillness and its treatment.
5. Foster the role of consultation psychiatry as a source of improved interdisciplinary communication.
6. Study the causative factors of psychosomatic illness and the various forms of therapeutic management.
7. Attempt to define the present role ofpsychoanalysis in the understanding and treatment of psychosomatic illness.
8. Study the potentialities and limitationsof psychopharmacology in the treatment psychosomatic illness.
9. Integrate such approaches as corticovisceral medicine with other frames of reference such as psychosomatic medicine.
10. Foster research for the prevention ofpsychosomatic illness as well as mental illnessin general.
