International College of Psychosomatic Medicine The International College of Psycho- somatic Medicine is organizing its First Con- gress, to be held at the Camino Real Hotel, Guadalajara, Mexico, from December 5 to 8, 1971, immediately after the 5th World Con- gress of Psychiatry, Mexico City, November 28 to December 4, 1971. The College was founded at Buenos Aires, during the Third International Congress of Psychosomatic Medicine, held in January, 1970, with the following purposes and aims: Section 1. The objectives of the Inter- national College shall be to promote and advance the principles of psychosomatic medi- cine to achieve the highest standards of re- search, education and exchange of scientific information. In its efforts to meet the primary objectives the International College shall: 1. Create an International forum for the exchange of information concerning the psy- chosomatic field through the following media: a. Correspondence and personal contacts between its members; a Directory of Mem- bers and their publication bulletin shall be available to each member in at least two languages: Spanish and English. b. The exchange of lectures and teachers will be accomplished by Speakers Bureau within the jurisdiction of the Education Com- mittee. Speakers will be available to all mem- ber organizations (when formed) and other institutions. c. Publication of an official journal of the College: Investigation Psicosomatica, in Spanish, with abstracts in four languages (the publication to start in late 1971). It is planned that this Journal may be published in other languages. 2. Organize the International Collegia (congresses) which will feature scientific ses- sions on the subject of recent developments and advances in the field of psychosomatic medicine (the First Congress to be held in Guadalajara, Mexico December S-8th, 1971.) 3. Organize regional meetings to be held in addition to the International Collegia. 226 4. Organize research activities in specific subjects simultaneously in different countries on a cooperative and collaborative basis in order to compare the roles of transcultural variables in the causation of psychosomatic illness and its treatment. 5. Foster the role of consultation psy- chiatry as a source of improved interdiscipli- nary communication. 6. Study the causative factors of psycho- somatic illness and the various forms of thera- peutic management. 7. Attempt to define the present role of psychoanalysis in the understanding and treat- ment of psychosomatic illness. 8. Study the potentialities and limitations of psychopharmacology in the treatment psy- chosomatic illness. 9. Integrate such approaches as cortico- visceral medicine with other frames of refer- ence such as psychosomatic medicine. 10. International College of Psychosomatic Medicine

The International College of Psycho­somatic Medicine is organizing its First Con­gress, to be held at the Camino Real Hotel,Guadalajara, Mexico, from December 5 to 8,1971, immediately after the 5th World Con­gress of Psychiatry, Mexico City, November28 to December 4, 1971.
