From your Presidents…
O n behalf of the ICP, we would like to welcome all of our colleagues to the 16th
Biennial Meeting of the ICP. The ICP continues to grow as one of the largest in-
ternational organizations dedicated to prosthodontics. With our long history of suc-
cessful meetings and membership development, the ICP has grown to over a thousand
members, representing more than 70 countries. We take great pride in knowing our
meetings provide the valued opportunity to learn from and network with the fore-
most leaders in the specialty of prosthodontics and our colleagues from around the
world . See more on p. 7...
Always special…. Don’t miss the ICP Social Outing, Friday Sept. 18th
One of the most important and pleasurable parts of the conference is the chance to relax and enjoy the
fellowship of our colleagues in a beautiful setting. This year, we will experience Minsok Village, a living
museum type of attraction in the city
of Yongin. The purpose of the village
is to display elements of traditional
Korean life and culture. There are
multiple sections to the park with
numerous replicas of traditional
houses of the different social classes
from various regions. The park con-
sists of traditional street markets,
dances, equestrian skills, marriage ceremonies and other activities. Make reservations now!

What’s trending in Education & Research? Continued from page 1
It is anticipated that the Education
and Research Committee will be in a
position to receive its first applica-
tions for research grants after the
Seoul meeting. The fund will support
new and existing prosthodontic re-
search with top-up grant money for
prosthodontic students from devel-
oping, middle and low income coun-
tries. Applicants must be existing ICP
members.
The Student Poster Awards program
is held in conjunction with the bien-
nial scientific meeting and has in
recent years experienced significant
growth in the number of submis-
sions. This trend is expected to con-
tinue in Seoul. The high quality of
the submissions assessed in Torino in
2013 is a strong indication that the
task of judging the posters will be no
less challenging in 2015.
The ICP is pleased to welcome Ivo-
clar Vivadent as sponsor of the Stu-
dent Poster Awards.

More on Education and Research…. Work is also underway for the establishment of a Research Fellowship. The
successful applicant would receive funding for a one-year restorative materi-
als research fellowship program. This program will combine financial sup-
port with mentorship of the student by a world-class researcher and has the
potential for life-long impact for the student, the mentor, the discipline of
prosthodontics and patients. A unique collaboration between an internation-
al global prosthodontic organization (ICP) and a leading dental materials in-
novator and manufacturer can provide leadership, support, and knowledge
to help this program truly make a positive impact in the advancement of den-
tal health care. Operational specifics are being evaluated by the Education
and Research Committee at this time.
Each of these ICP-sponsored programs continues to fulfill its global mis-
sion: “Promote the specialty and discipline of prosthodontics”.
Sustaining the funding for these programs is essential and we respectfully ask
our members to consider a yearly donation to maintain and expand this mis-
sion. Your donation can be applied to a specific program by checking the box
of your payment or donations tab on your member page or at the ICP - Your
Donations at Work webpage.

IJP/ Karlsruhe Workshop (YPE)
YPE workshops are provided by the
IJP’s editorial group to function as an
international faculty in their efforts
to encourage and develop clinical
prosthodontic scholarship. This ex-
traordinary educational initiative
seeks to underscore the international
nature and commitment of the IJP’s
prosthodontic discipline. Such dedi-
cation to the highest standards of
education is indorsed by the ICP.
Potential YPE participants are en-
couraged to consider attending this
highly appreciated effort, to nurture
strong scholarly commitments to the
clinical discipline.
Next Workshop: Fall 2016
Details will be posted on the ICP website as available.
“Since their inception more than a decade ago, these biennial workshops on treating prosthodontic patients sought open and
provocative debate among its selected participants from the global community of YPEs and are guided by a unique pro bono
faculty selected from the ranks of the IJP’s editorial board. Each workshop’s focus is driven by specifically selected case histo-
ries—patients’ clinical narratives and needs—that need to be reconciled with diverse health, socioeconomic, and professional
skill availability determinants. The IJP’s editorial board, with its distinguished scholarly pedigree, provides academic guidance.
We seek to share our workshop information with other clinical educators from around the world who may find it useful to
recruit the material for their own teaching programs. They will also have the opportunity to modify their narrative choices so
as to ensure the strongest resonance possible for their own graduate residents. Scholarly endeavor such as these workshops
cannot take place without the generosity and vision of sponsoring companies. All four past YPE workshops held in Europe
were the direct result of Nobel Biocare’s enlightened and much-appreciated support; and the 2014 program was specifically
expedited by the Foundation for Oral Rehabilitation (FOR), established by Nobel Biocare in 2012. Additional workshop sup-
port to cover selected participants’ attendance expenses was again provided by the International College of Prosthodontists.
This type of educational initiative could not occur without the invaluable endorsement and support of both organizations,
plus the exceptional commitment of a pro bono faculty and the superb organizational assistance of the Karlsruhe Academy
and its director, Winfried Walther.
It should also be noted that the YPE workshops were conceived of as a “moveable feast”—a synthesis of fact and information
that offers much scope for intellectual provocation and ensuing debate in diverse global educational settings. Consequently,
three additional workshops have also already been held in Asia—two in Beijing, China, in partnership with Professor
Yongsheng Zhou, and one in Seoul, Korea, with Professor Sang Wan Shin. It is hoped that this global scholarly initiative will be
welcomed by more international colleagues willing to host a YPE workshop. “

17th ICP Biennial Meeting Santiago, Chile Sept. 7-9, 2017
Plan to join your colleagues
and world leaders in our
specialty in Santiago, Chile’s capital and
largest city. Steady economic growth
has transformed Santiago into Latin
America's most modern metropolitan
area, with dozens of shopping centers,
impressive architecture and modern
transportation infrastructure.
On a clear day, Santiago basks in one of the most spectacular settings
of any city in the world. A glance through the downtown blocks reveals a mighty circle of mountains - the
snowcapped Andean peaks to the east, and a smaller coastal range to the west. There's a large range of ac-
tivities within easy reach of the urban sprawl. Trekking, horseback riding, skiing, kayaking and wine tours are
just a few of the exhilarating possibilities at Santiago's doorstep.

“In this meeting we will address new developments with state-of-the-art presentations...” Dr. Rhonda Jacob and Dr. C. Peter Owen, ICP Presidents
Once the selection process is complete, and following Board approval, all Nominations with the candidates CVs will be posted on the website. Please note that, in order to maintain a bal-anced representation of the entire constituency, the Board has ap-proved in October 2014 the following criteria: "When taking into consideration the geographic/regional distribu-tion of all members of the Board, the Committee will consider the distribution according to the three regions listed in the site selection criteria: (Region 1: North and South America; Region 2: Europe, Africa, and Middle East; Region 3: Asia and Oceania) by using as a guideline a range of three to six members per region (Term of Refer-ences 2.3 - VII)"
We anticipate the COEX Convention & Exhibition Center to provide a valuable and successful venue. Thanks to the work done by the program chairs, Dr. Ken Malament and Dr. Seong Joo Heo under the watchful eye of President Jacobs, the initial program already promises to be yet another memorable ICP meeting with its special bouquet of expertise, expe-rience, scholarship, science and clinical art from our esteemed colleagues. We are seeing significant developments in many areas of Prosthodontics. In this meeting we will ad-dress these new developments with state of the art presentations. We are bringing the top names in the profession to concentrate on the important issues of treatment predictability in both new and traditional modalities, as well as updating us with current con-cepts in all fields of Prosthodontics. In addition, we will continue with the tradition of providing dedicat-ed sessions to maxillofacial prosthodontics, and from this conference on, also to the often neglected field of geriatric dentistry. We will also continue with the graduate student ses-sions, where graduate students can present success-ful cases, cases for treatment planning, cases under
way, and so on – all cases from which they have learnt and from which we too can learn.
We are firmly convinced working together, network-ing, socializing together, exchanging ideas and ad-dressing the most recent prosthodontic techniques and research, we will undoubtedly benefit both our-selves and our patients.
Sincerely, Dr. Rhonda Jacob and Dr. C. Peter Owen
