accepted, so there is some confusion as to the overall size of the country.
While Canada has for some time had a special relationship with the nited !tates, whereby
they have acted together in military campaigns and are the largest trading partners for each
other, the origins of the country are more connected to the nited "ingdom and #rance.
!till part of the commonwealth, Canada has proved to be a very popular place for e$pats to
relocate, with the %ritish and #rench cultures very evident in the country.
The ethnic mi$ of Canada is dominated by the &nglish '()*+, #rench '-*+, !cottish
'*+ and Irish '/*+ and the 0ueen of &ngland is still officially the head of state. &nglish
and #rench are the natural languages of the area, and while there is no “state education
department”, each of Canada1s provinces has complete control of their own education
system.
2istorically Canada has always been in the shadow of the more dominant nited !tates,
although the country still has a very significant tourist industry, offering a culture which
ta3es in elements of the %ritish, #rench and ! ways of life. Canada has a few uni4ue
characteristics of its own including the Canadian 5olice #orce, the so called “mounties”, who
have a uni4ue style and loo3 which is 3nown throughout the world.
6pplying for permanent residency in Canada is fairly straight forward, although cases will be
considered on an individual basis. !uccessful candidates will receive a 5ermanent 7esident
Card which they must carry at all times, especially when leaving and returning to thecountry. 6 permanent resident must actually live in the country for at least ( years out ofevery 8 otherwise the residency may be at ris3.
#or those loo3ing at full Canadian Citizenship there is a / year wait 'during which time you
must be resident in the country+ before you can apply for this 9 although this is not
mandatory. #or more information on immigration and other issues why not post a 4uestion

Economy in Cnd
The Canadian economy is as varied as the ethnic groups and landscapes within the country,
with unemployment varying from /.-* in areas such as 6lberta to approaching 8* in=ewfoundland. The country depends upon manufacturing, mining, agriculture and a
growing services sector, but relies very heavily on an energy sector which has seen the
country grow to become the largest net e$porter of energy in the world 'the ma>ority going
to the country1s main trading partner, the !+.
7esearch has shown that while many areas of the country are rich in gas, oil and other
natural resources 'such as gold, etc+, it is the frozen lands of the far =orth which may be
the 3ey to the country1s future energy industry. =ew technology is slowly allowing the
release of gas, oil and minerals, which until now had been unreachable 9 this has in turn
given the industry a ma>or boost.
!uccessive Canadian governments have cleverly introduced various new elements to theeconomy, which have helped to reduce unemployment in many areas of the country. &ven
though the strong ties with the ! are vital to the development of Canada, the country is
starting to promote itself on the international scene. This has attracted a great many
foreign nationals to consider the country for re9location.
The Canadian ta$ system is a little different for the normal developed world, in that there isa 8* to (?* sliding scale for federal ta$es, as well as localised provincial ta$es. @n the
business front, corporation ta$ is a relatively high /-.*, although A6T is only B*.
Prospects in Cnd
Canada has long been in the shadow of its ma>or trading and cultural partner, the !6,
although it is starting to grow in its own right. The recent rise in the price of oil, gas and

other natural resources has highlighted the reserves of this massive country.
The country also has very strong lin3s with %ritain and #rance, which has attracted a lot of
e$pats from those countries. The Canadian economy is growing at a steady rate, and while
unemployment rates vary dramatically between different areas of the country, the general
trend is down.
Canada offers an interesting opportunity for those loo3ing to relocate to a vibrant country,
which has much to offer. !lightly different from the norm, the country has a rela$ed way of
life and a growing international standing, further demonstrated by the award of the ())
@lympics and ())B 9() #I#6 World Cup.
