The theme chosen for this exhibition is “Ancestral Rescue.” Forty years ago, an institution, immediately opened its doors to a new opportunity, which at the time was just a project, and called itself EL CENTRO CULTURAL DE LA RAZA. This organization is dedicated to the valuable heritage of the Chicano culture community: Mexican, Native American and Latin American.

This centers’ creation dates back to the 1960’s and 1970’s. The youth of that time did not have a place where one could appreciate the Multicultural Arts, which came from ancestors, which has always been present in this country. Especially in this region of the United States.

• A group of enthusiastic youth with well-defined ideals, fought to get their dream. To make a platform to completely showcase art, through painting, dance, music, literature and folklore. Above all, to join the community; they were successful! Among them were: Salvador Torres, Victor Ochoa, and Mario Torero Acevedo. They organized and founded , THE CENTRO CULTURAL DE LA RAZA, The homage of the topic keeps them fighting even after forty years. Fortunately, with the company of newer generations that will not allow this legacy to be forgotten, to promote art and culture from its roots. The International Exhibition “Shades of the Americas 2010,” welcomes the countries of Argentina, Colombia, Bolivia, Paraguay, Venezuela, Honduras, Guatemala. Mexico, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Peru, Spain, Ecuador, Panama, Uruguay, Chile, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Equatorial Guinea, Belize and the United States. Each representing artist proudly displays their history and culture, through artwork, in an unforgettable celebration of canvas and colors! Proving, once again, that “Art has no boundaries.”

A special thanks to all participating artists who are taking part in Talento Hispano’s first project. The auction will benefit the Centro Cultural De La Raza, beginning at the Opening Ceremony, which will be held on September 15th, 2010 at 6:00 PM. Bids will continue to be accepted during the month-long exhibition, ending on October 15th, 2010. Concluding with the Closing Ceremony, where the works will be delivered to their new owners. The auction can also be followed via Internet.

In addition to creating a space for artists to showcase their work, the event will provide attendees the opportunity to acquire important works of art at affordable prices. Thus, Shades of the Americas 2010, becomes the epicenter of Latin American art, which realizes the events of contemporary visual arts through a dynamic dialogue that stresses the artist's role in the rescue of their ancestral culture. We highly value the institutional support from the General Consulate of Mexico in San Diego and the MAAC Project. (Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee on Anti-Poverty)
