Over the past several years, new techniques have been applied to thyroid surgery, some of which have been incremental improvements, while others represent completely new approaches (minimally invasive video-assisted [MIVAT], transaxillary, BABA, modified facelift, transoral, etc.). Many of the new approaches are still in evolution, and experts in the field have divergent opinions on the relative value of these approaches. Until recently, there have been limited opportunities for practitioners to learn or see these techniques performed by the innovators who developed them.

The purpose of this course is to bring together experts to discuss and demonstrate these advances, to debate the relative merits of these techniques, and for participants to have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a laboratory setting under the guidance of surgeons who have been involved in developing new surgical approaches to the thyroid.
