MIC’s mission

Montana International College aims at raising awareness among students of the importance of social, cultural and religious diversity in a protective, caring and respectful community regarding opinions and ethical choices. Montana International College recognizes the individuality of each student. Through a differentiated student-centered teaching approach, it creates a stimulating learning environment. The students of Montana International College become responsible citizens in a diverse and evolving society. In addition to an education of quality, they are given an education for social and ethical values

Preamble The internal rules & regulations document organizes the school life and the relationships, rights and obligations among all those who work (students and staff) at MIC. MONTANA International College’s mission is based on values that everyone must respect. As part of the community of Montana, every student has to transmit and reflect a positive image worthy of respect in the external society where he lives. 1. Organization and operation of the institution 1.1 Schedules

The institution welcomes students on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 7:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 7:15 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Class schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday Wednesday

Beginning 7:40 a.m. 7:40 a.m. End 2:45 p.m. 2:00 p.m. The school is not responsible for students off these slots. Half working and assessment days are organized regularly on Saturdays for students of grade 9, secondary 1, secondary 2, and secondary 3. (Calendar given to concerned students at the beginning of each year) 1.2 Use of premises and equipment

Students have access to the different areas of the establishment (classrooms, common areas, laboratories, the Culture and Communication Centre). They are entitled to the use of materials on specific times. Respect of premises, equipments, and materials is mandatory. The author of a malicious damage will bear his legal guardian repair expenses. During recess, students must necessarily be in the common areas designated by the supervisors. (Basketball court, canteen). 1.3 Care and Emergency

The nurse is available in accordance with school hours. She welcomes, listens, provides care and handles emergencies. Any visit to the infirmary is reported in the correspondence book of the student and shall be signed by the parents. In case of an emergency, the nurse provides the transportation of the student to the hospital after an administrative approval and a contact with parents. The student is always accompanied by a staff member. In the absence of the nurse, the general supervisor provides the service. Personal medicines of students must be deposited in the infirmary with the doctor's prescription. If a student is unable to take part in a sporting activity for medical reasons, a medical report shall be submitted to the nurse for this purpose. 1.4 Social service

The social service office assists students in need to overcome their social difficulties. A call to parents is possible if necessary after the approval of the administration. Students benefit from this service following:

o a request of the administration o a request of their parents o a personal initiative of the student.

1.5 Canteen

The school promotes a healthy nutrition and a well-balanced meal. 1.6 Transportation

School transportation is private; only those who are enrolled can benefit from this service. The rules must be respected when using school transport. 1.7 School trips, outings and extracurricular or co-curricular activities

School trips, outings and activities are organized by the administration. Students participate after written parental consent. The rules must be respected during these activities.

2. Organization and follow-ups 2.1 Organization of studies

Teaching hours by discipline are organized according to the American and Lebanese programs’ requirements. Students are given the schedule of their class at the beginning of each academic year. 2.2 School Calendar

The agenda is a means of communication between teachers and parents. Parents are urged to consult it daily. The student is required to keep it clean and readable. The academic agenda of the students is monitored by each class’ teachers. Parents can view an electronic version of the agenda in the secure "Parents corner" space on the school’s website. 2.3 Homework Daily homework is assigned to students. Each student is required to prepare them seriously at home and present them on set dates.

2.4 Up keeping notebooks and / or files The student must maintain its notebook/copybook clean, neat and complete. His writing must be legible. Students’ notebooks are checked and graded by teachers.

2.5 Evaluation and report card

Continuous evaluations are held throughout the academic year. Two summative examinations are scheduled at the end of each semester. The exam dates are fixed and listed on the school calendar. Each year, the report cards are sent to parents 5 times. Due dates are listed on the school calendar. Once the report card is received by the parents, it must be signed and returned the following day to the supervisor. The conditions of promotion to the next class are mentioned on the back of report card.

2.6 Class Council: Allocation and membership

Chaired by the principal or his representative, the class council gathers the supervisor, teachers, parents’ delegate and the class’ delegate to assess the overall performance of the class and the students’ individual results. A briefing note is sent to the parents of the students with the report card of their child. (Full text in the School Project). 2.7 Parents / teacher meetings and office hours

Parents may be constantly aware of the performance of their children on:

• Parents / teacher meeting scheduled in advance on the school calendar. • The weekly office hours (on appointment) set and communicated to

families at the beginning of each scholastic year.

3. Rules of the school life 3.1 Management of tardiness and absences

The general supervisor manages the tardiness and absences of students. 3.1.1 School tardiness:

Morning classes start at 7:40. Any student arriving after this time may not be accepted class for the first period. A note will be sent home to parents for information. During the school day, no tardiness is permissible. On days of examination or assessment, no extra time would be given to the tardy student.

3.1.2 School absence:

All absences must be reported to the school between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. by phone. To be admitted to class on his/her return, only a request of absence written by parents on the correspondence book and approved by the administration is considered justified. The unexcused absence is punishable.

All absences are noted on the report card of the student. The student is responsible for missed classes. A failing grade is assigned to the student if he/she is absent during examinations or assessments unless he/she gives a validated justification to the administration. During school hours, it is forbidden for students to leave the facility without a written permission from the general supervisor. The authorization must be presented to the person sitting at the gate of the property. 3.2 Academic Integrity

Anyone caught in the frenzy of cheating during a test or examination, or in situations of plagiarism, will be sanctioned by a failing grade only after the validation of the administration.

A written note will be filed in the student's record.

3.3 Dress and behavior

Within the institution, the School’s uniform is compulsory except for Secondary III classes. Free dress must respect the decency required in a school. Hygiene and cleanliness are essential. Wearing a cap, or a hood, is prohibited in the classroom.

3.4 Use of mobile phones

Students wishing to bring their mobile phones to school must first submit the “Parental Consent” duly completed and signed by the parents. Mobile phones must be handed to the supervisor in the morning before class and will be given back to students at the end of the school day. If a cell phone is seen or heard by a staff member between 7:40 a.m. and 3:00p.m., the following consequences will occur:

• On first offense, the mobile phone will be confiscated for a day

(without SIM card). • On a second offense, the mobile phone and the SIM card will be

confiscated for a week.

• On a third offense, the mobile phone will be confiscated until the end of the school year, and the SIM card for two weeks.

3.5 Use of digital technology and the Internet MIC provides its students with many digital tools: computers, interactive whiteboards (IWB) and an internet connection which they have to use properly for educational purposes. 3.6 Security

• It is recommended that students do not bring along any valuables or large sums. The administration accepts no responsibility if money or valuables were to disappear. Students who find any the lost objects are asked to return them to the supervisor's office.

• Any introduction, any carrying of weapons or dangerous objects of any kind are strictly prohibited. Similarly, the introduction and use of drug and tobacco in the institution are expressly prohibited.

• Verbal violence, degradation of personal property, theft or attempted theft, bullying, hazing, extortion and harassment, including that done through the internet, physical violence and sexual violence in the institution and its surroundings represent behaviors which, depending on the severity, are subject to disciplinary sanctions and referral to courts.

• Taking pictures not previously authorized by the vice principal is strictly prohibited within the facility.

3.7 The rights and duties The life of the school community requires respect of people in their possessions, their functions and their differences. The respect of the environment, public property and property of others are all obligations stated in the internal rules and regulations.

The rights and obligations of students

RIGHTS DUTIES Right to an education in conformity with the programs

Students must participate in school work , meet schedules and the content of teaching.

Right to be safe Right to seek the protection of adults

Duty to use no violence of any kind

Right to be listened to, respected Students have through their representatives the right of collective expression and the right of assembly Right to be different

Remain within the limits of decencies, not being provocative, respect others and be tolerant

3.8 The behavior 3.8.1 School Punishment Definition: School punishments are mainly minor breaches of the obligations of students and disruption in the life of the classroom or school. They are simple measures within order, regardless of academic performance, which may be given by teachers. Indicative list of punishments:

• A note on the class register and/or the book of correspondence signed by the parents

• Additional work (with or without a detention during school hours) to be monitored and corrected by the teacher.

• Detention (outside school hours) following an assignment not done or in case of disruption in class. It is imposed and set by the concerned teacher.

Any punishment decision is recorded on the class register. 3.8.2 Disciplinary sanctions Definition: disciplinary sanctions are related to serious or repeated breaches of students to their obligations, including crimes against persons and properties. They are set by the administration and included on the student’s record. Only the school principal may decide if there is any necessity to convene the Disciplinary Council. Sanctions imposed: o oral warning,

o written warning – mentioned on the student’s report card,

o temporary expulsion from class or school that cannot exceed eight days, with

or without full or partial reprieve,

o Permanent expulsion from the institution. It can be with or without a total or partial reprieve.

In case of damage of equipment or failure to respect the premises, based on the damages the student shall: o pay the price of the repair or purchase of the damaged property / furniture or

o perform remedial action, or

o perform a community service as part of the educational remedial measures.

3.8.3 Positive incentives Montana International College pays particular attention to the academic excellence of its students and their progress, on both academic and disciplinary level. Indicative list of rewarding measures:

o "Encouragement" specified on the report card based on a remarkable progress.

o "Congratulations" specified on the report card.

o Degrees of "Excellence"

o Partial or total exemption from the final exams for students of grades 6, 7, 8 and secondary in the Lebanese and American Program.

4. Liaison with families The internal rules and regulations represent an essential support for a genuine communication with families in a spirit of coeducations. The information it provides on the operation of the facility, the organization of contacts with the teaching staff and the meetings’ schedule between parents and teachers, contribute to the quality of this communication. 4.1 Representation of parents Parents are represented in the various departments of the institution (refer to the full text of the Establishment Project). 4.2 Methods of communication To ensure a proper monitoring of the students, an active communication between the school and the parents is necessary. Montana’s parents are kept informed through various means of interaction and communication with the facility:

Registration in Montana International College implies full acceptance of these rules
