INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE CELL

ANNUAL REPORT 2014-15

The University Grant Commission (UGC) had sanctioned Rs 3,00,000/- in April

2014 for establishment and monitoring of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell in Colleges during

XII Plan period (May 2014 –May 2019). Following the Guidelines of the UGC, the existing

IQAC was strengthened by forming committee members consisting of senior faculty, Alumni,

students and external experts from Industry. Under the Guidance of the Principal as Chairperson,

Five Senior Faculty namely Mrs.K.Jothi, Controller of Examinations, Mrs.Geetha Rajan,

Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, Dr.P.Parvathy, Head, Department of

Mathematics, Mrs.R,Geetharani, Head, Department of English and Dr.Mrs.V.Usharani, Head,

Department of Zoology as Committee members the IQAC was formed.

The Composition of IQAC included Dr.R.Maya, Head, Department of Economics as

IQAC Coordinator, Dr.P.Sumabala, Assistant Professor, Department of Historical Studies and

Mrs.T.K.Prameela, Assistant Professor, Department of English as Assistant Coordinators of

IQAC, Ms.M.Maharasi, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, Mrs.G.Eswari Prabu,

Associate Professor, Department of English and Mrs.B.Thilagavathy, Associate Professor of

English are the senior Faculty Members of the IQAC. Dr.S.Nirmala, Associate Professor,

Department of Tamil is the Alumni Member, Miss Mohanapriya, Union President and

Miss.K. Mahalakshmi, Magazine Secretary are the student representatives and Mr.P.Sanjay

Ghandi, Additional Government Pleader, Madras High Court and Mr.N.Balaraman, M.D, CAM

Solutions, Chennai are the External experts. The IQAC Meeting was held on 13.09.15.Various

suggestions were given by the external experts that were carried out during the course of the

academic year.

The IQAC Team consisting of coordinator, assistant coordinators and representatives

from all the departments worked together in the collection of information, for preparation of


reports. IQAC submitted letter of Intent (LOI- to apply for Reaccreditation Third cycle), Self

Study Report and Annual Report for 2013-14 to NAAC. The Annual Reports for 2009-10, 2010-

11, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 (five years) were also submitted in the new prescribed format as

per the instructions given by the NAAC.

The Steering Committee was formed with Mrs.K.Jothi, Controller of Examinations

and Head, Department of Physics, Mrs.Geetharani, Head, Department of English,

Dr.A.UmaMaheswari, Associate Professor of Mathematics, Dr.K.Vijaya, Associate Professor

and Head, Department of Historical Studies, Dr.Anandhi Seshasayee, Head and Associate

Professor, Department of Computer Science and Dr.R,Maya, Head and Associate Professor,

Department of Economics and the IQAC Coordinator. An Executive Summary was prepared and

all supervisory activities in connection with NAAC Peer Team visit were carried on.

The NAAC Peer Team visit was scheduled on January 8, 9 and 10, 2015.

Dr.K.(Smt) Nirupa Rani, Former Vice Chancellor, Adikavi Nannaya University, Andhrapradesh

was the Chairperson of the Team, Prof.Vishwanath B.Hiremath, Principal, KLE Society’s P.C

Jain Science College (Autonomous), Belgaum, Karnataka was the Member Coordinator and

Dr.(Mrs) Renu Bhardwaj, Professor, Department of Botanical &Environmental Science, Guru

Nanak Dev University, Amritsar ,Punjab was the member of the NAAC Peer Team.

The NAAC Peer Team members met the staff members of all the departments,

Office, library and the Physical Director. They assessed the infrastructure of the college by

visiting class rooms and Hostel. The team interacted with the Staff, Teaching and Non Teaching,

Students, Alumni and Parents. Cultural programmes were organised to show the talent of the

students. B Grade was awarded with Institutional CGPA OF 2.78 up to 20.03.2020 by NAAC.

Teaching and Non-Teaching staff members and students contributed wholeheartedly for the

NAAC Peer Team visit.

2.14 Significant Activities and contributions made by IQAC

The IQAC of the college has provided enough initiatives for quality enhancement in the

academic and non-academic activities. The IQAC has accessed information from various academic and

administrative departments, committees and organisations on current activities and monitors the progress

of the institution.

IQAC organised Soft Skill Programme for Final Year Arts and Science students on 9.12.14

and 10.12.14.The theme of the workshop was ‘Campus to Corporate’. Mr. S.Venkatesh, Soft Skill

Trainer addressed the gathering. IQAC organised Counselling on Life Skills on 16.02.15 for First year

students. Mrs.Usha Ramakrishnan addressed the gathering.126 students from first year Arts and Science

students attended counselling Programme.

Student Quality Cell was formed on 07.08.2014.The college students Union Members

became the members of the students Quality Cell. Discussion on Campus Cleanliness, Discipline,

Disbursal of Bus Pass and issues on Interactive and Socialising etiquette were discussed. Meetings were

held on 5.1.2015 and 09.03.2015.

Internal and External Academic Audit were conducted for all the departments.

Mrs.Geetharajan, Head, Department of Commerce, Dr.P.Parvathy, Head, Department of Mathematics,

Dr.V.Usharani, Head, Department of Zoology and Dr.R.Maya IQAC Coordinator were the internal

Academic Audit members. Two External Academic Audit Members in each department scrutinized the

performance of the departments and gave suggestions.

Feedback form about the teaching methods was given to the students and filled in forms were

collected. IQAC members were asked to collect information about student’s enrolment, academic

performance and Faculty performance in paper presentations, publication and Research activities for the

year 2014-15 to enable for preparation of annual report.

IQAC arranged written examination for Study Abroad Programme 2015-16 on 28 April,

2015 and coordinated with Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education (TANSCHE). Four students

were selected to study at Universities in UK for one Semester funded by Government of Tamil Nadu.

Two Faculty were also selected to visit university in U.K to observe teaching and learning practices for

one month.

To develop global competence among students in order to excel in all aspects of academic and non-

academic activities – UG and PG students are required to acquire a higher grade or percentage in their

academic performance and to involve at least in any one of the activities such as Sports, Fine Arts,

NSS, NCC etc that would provide extra credits for increasing their CGPA.

To design the academic curriculum based on the needs of the students in the career arena- to prepare

the student community in mastery of fundamentals and advanced learning capabilities through

technology so that they could equip themselves for challenges confronted in the job market.

2.12 How does IQAC Contribute/Monitor/Evaluate the Teaching & Learning process:

IQAC monitors the performance of the students based on the inputs from the Teaching-Learning process

by assessing the ratio of pass percentage in comparison to previous years. It also monitors the student

ratio of job competency and the scope of students getting recruited every year. The IQAC also takes the

initiative to understand the learning difficulties of students from rural background and aid them by

providing remedial coaching and repetitive assessment so that they perform better in the exams. The use

of updated technological information helps the students to cope with their learning process in an easy

manner.

3.26 Major Activities during the year in the sphere of extension activities and Institutional Social

Responsibility

On 27.6.2014 NSS unit and Aryma sangam jointly organized one lakh eye donation campaign for the

Guinness record.

On 21-02-2015, TVS and NSS jointly organized road safety awareness programme. Various quiz

programme programmes were conducted and our NSS students participated and won many prizes.

On 02-11-2014 Tamil Nadu State Aids Prevention Department, Labour Welfare Association and

Government Employee Welfare Association jointly conducted blood donation campaign. NSS

students and Programme Officer, Tmt. M .Kalpana also participated.

Five NSS students participated in essay writing and oratorical competitions and won cash prize of Rs.

5000/- from the Governor of Tamilnadu.

50 YRC Volunteers have registered their names for Organ Donation Camp held in Loyola College in

Chennai.

Leo club of QMGC(W) started project called “Each one Teach one”. “Service beings at home” The

club took up an in-house project- “Each one Teach one”. Its a permanent in-house project to help the

fifteen visually challenged student of the college from various departments. An hour, after the college

hours was dedicated to read aloud the lessons to the visually challenged students.

The Leos of our college also serve as scribes during the examination both within the college and in

other colleges like Presidency College, Chennai

The second project was “Joy of giving”. The club collected dresses, note books, pencils, toys from

the students and the staff of the college to donate it to the orphanage Monte ford Siragugal, at Besant

Nagar.

The third project was also in Monte Ford Siragugal. Catering to the demands of the inmates the club

gave 62 school bags donated by Ms. Lochini, Associate Professor, Department of English, to the

children in the orphanage as Diwali gift. The Leos also enjoyed celebrating Diwali at the orphanage

with the kids.

As the fourth project the Leos provided lunch to the inmates of the Orphanage, Monte Ford at Besant

Nagar, Chennai, on 15 Aug, 2014.

Computerization of Administration –

Scholarship details are computerised and the students are receiving their scholarships through

ECS. The scholarship amount for Backward Community, Most Backward Community,

Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes is distributed by the government through Electronic

Clearing System (ECS) to the Students’ bank account.

Admission process and the Ranking Lists are computerized.

Continuous Assessment of the performance of the students; Internal and external valuation of

papers; digitization of all the work connected with Controller of Examinations – digitization of

The Department of Computer Science conducts Computer Literacy Programme every year.

Currently 106 students have been enrolled. Students are evaluated through examination and a

Certificate is issued by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Computer training is being imparted, as Part –IV skill based course to all the Non computer

science UG students. In compensation, the computer science UG students undergo an application

The Career Guidance Cell and the Redressal Committee comprising the Principal, Senior Teachers of the

college, Heads of the Departments and other staff members who are socially involved in doing service

assist in supporting the students. Many poor students are identified in the class who cannot afford lunch

in college are provided with free noon meals. The IQAC gathers information based on these issues and

delegates the work to the respective committees for immediate rectification of problems.

The institution takes the initiative to monitor and follow all the activities that are brought into

the academic and non-academic curriculum regularly. Frequent reports are received from the

departments based on which relevant action is taken keeping in mind the progress of the student.

The career guidance and placement cell of our college is effectively functioning from 2002 onward since

July 2014, The cell is being headed by a committee comprising of the convener

Dr(Tmt)R.SeethaLakshmi, Principal and Placement officer Mrs.J.Vanitha,Assistant.Professor in

Economics and coordinator Dr.T.Pugazhenthi, Assistant Professor in computer science.

VISION

Enlightening our students to enrich their skills and potentials by conducting Mock AptitudeTest.

Offering opportunities to interact with various organisations by conducting seminars and

workshops.

Maintaining the database of the Final year students.

Extending opportunities for placement, scholarship courses, training programmes and also guiding

them to pursue higher education.

During this academic year, 64organisations have visited our college to notify,interact and enlighten the

students about various job opportunities through various activities.2 aptitude Test,2 awareness

programmes,3training programmes,4 one day seminars and 1 two days seminars were

conducted.Livewire Company limited provided one day training on skill development to the students who

came first in all the departments. Cameo Private limited offered 4 months free training to the 17 students

on Medical Transcription. Till date 216 students were placed.

Flipcart has put up two stalls on 21.07.2014 & 22.07.14 to create awareness on “On line trading”

Qual-ET has given a presentation on “Teaching as a career for Women” to all the final year UG &

PG students.

motivation on 22.08.14.All the final year UG&PG students participated.

for all the final year UG &PG students.

final year UG & PG students on 10.09.14.

5.8 Details of gender sensitization programmes

A Legal Awareness Programme was jointly organized by the Women Development Cell of the

Quaid –E-Millath Government College for Women (Autonomous) with Tamil Nadu Federation of

Women Lawyers and Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development on 11.3.2015. The

programme started with the welcome address by Dr.K.R.Seethalakshmi, Principal of the college,

followed by the presidential address of Mrs. K.Santha Kumari, President, TNFWL. Hon'ble Justice

R.Mahadevan, Judge, High Court, Madras, delivered the special address. He highlighted the efforts of

Rahul Sankrutyan, Periyar and women like Velunachiyar and Anjali Ammal. Dr.S.Lalitha and Mr.Bairagi

Suresh, faculty members of RGNIYD spoke on the importance of legal awareness programme. In the first

session Mrs.Y.Kavitha, Advocate, High Court, Madras spoke on violence against women and pointed out

about different types of abuse against women, the authorities who help the affected women and the

procedure to approach the authorities. Mrs. Suseela Devi, Advocate, High Court, Madras spoke on

different types of violence against women like domestic violence and acid attacks, foeticide, female

infanticide, and dowry deaths and explained about the punishments for each crime. Dr.P.Venugopal,

Assistant Professor, Department of Legal Studies, University of Madras emphasized that Women's rights

are Human Rights. Citing several examples from literature, epics, mythology and history he insisted the

need for the women's rights. Dr.K.Vijaya, HOD of Historical Studies and the convener of the WDC

proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs.Gajalakshmi Rajendran, Advocate, High Court, Madras spoke on sexual

harassment against women. Mrs. G. Manimegalai, former MLA and Parliamentarian of TNFWL

welcomed the gathering for the valedictory function. Hon'ble Justice K.N.Basha, Chairman, Intellectual

Property, Appellate Board delivered the special address and distributed the certificates to the participants.

Mrs.J.Stella, Assistant Professor, Dept of Historical Studies proposed the vote of thanks. All the speakers

interacted with the audience and answered the queries raised by the students. The interactive sessions

were vibrant with the enthusiastic participation of the student.

The PG and Research Department of Historical Studies organized an Inter – Collegiate Human

Rights Awareness Programme on December 12, 2014. The Chief Guest, Hon’ble Justice T.S.

Sivagnanam, High Court of Madras delivered the inaugural address on “Empower Women to Empower

the World”. Dr. Visalakshi Nedunchezhiyan, Chairperson, Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women,

delivered the keynote address. In the first technical session, Dr. Sylendra Babu IPS, Additional Director

General of Police, Coastal Security Group, Tamil Nadu, spoke on “Violence against women”. Ms. U.

Vasuki, National Vice President, All India Democratic Women’s Association, Chennai, in the second

technical session, delivered a lecture on “Role of NGOs in the protection of women”.

An Inter- Collegiate Human Rights Workshop on "WOMEN'S RIGHTS, HUMAN LIFE AND

QUEST FOR JUSTICE" was organized by the PG & Research Department of Historical Studies on 21st

February 2015, under the auspices of National Human Rights Commission. The workshop was


inaugurated by Mrs. K. Elaiyarani, Registrar, State Human Rights Commission, Tamil Nadu. Session I

was presided over by Prof. C.Elaiyaraja, Assistant Professor in the Department of International Law and

Organization, Dr. Ambedkar Law University, in which he thoroughly surveyed the Historical

Perspectives of Human Rights. Dr. S. Ulaganayaki Palani, Associate Professor in the Department of

Tamil, Stella Maris College, Chennai, in Session II, addressed on Women and Human Rights. In the post-

lunch session Mrs. P. Veena Suresh, Advocate in High Court of Madras spoke on Socio-Legal Rights for

Women. Ms. U. Vasuki, National Vice-President, All India Democratic Women's Association, spoke on

the Institutional Mechanism and Human Rights.

Vision: Befitting the motto “Endeavour to Enlighten” the institution is committed to serve the

cause of women’s education in terms of educational enlightenment and social empowerment.

Mission: To impart quality education viewing future employment and inculcate self- learning so

that learning becomes a life-long process with a special focus on the empowerment of the women.

To impart value oriented teaching learning environment, value based curriculum is designed for the

students and they are expected to undergo a paper in value education inclusive of external and

internal assessments. This paper is mandatory for UG students. It is included to inculcate moral

values among the student community.

To facilitate adequate training and exposure in students’ activities and to enable them to acquire

skills and leadership qualities – the college provides training in soft skills and computer skills to the

students with the aim to develop their self- confidence and communication skills.

The language lab is used extensively for exposing the students to English language. A considerable

number of hours have been allotted in the regular student timetable. Review writing of books and

movies is encouraged to develop their critical skills for which a workshop was organised and talks by

experts conducted.

Practical applications of the respective courses of study are done in the form of field work, internship,

training and projects are introduced. ICT tools are used for better teaching and learning methods. A

Science. Ph.D. is offered in Historical Studies, Computer Science and Mathematics. Many Staff

Members have got Individual M.Phil and Ph.D Guide ship from various Universities and

guiding part time research scholars. More than Ten Faculty are doing Major and Minor Projects.

Faculty members are publishing articles in National /International Journal/E Journals. Many

Staff members are actively present papers in conferences. Eight Staff members are selected

under Faculty Improvement Programme for pursuing Ph D.

Computerization of Library

For documenting all department activities and programs ICT potential is used for the future

improvement. With the help of Microsoft Office 365-A2 and A3 programs were launched for

Adequate class rooms for UG and PG are made available. Sports equipment is provided for

students who are interested in sports.

More rooms are built for UG and PG hostel students.

Faculty and Staff are recruited by Government of Tamil Nadu

Final PG Students underwent Internship in Private Companies, Indian Bank and Government

Museum.

Nine students to obtain skill improvement training on Packaging for 30 days by Indian Institute of

Packaging (An Autonomous body under Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of

India) in January 2015.

Applications are issued at free of cost for SC/ST candidates and for other Backward Classes a nominal

fee is charged. Filled-in applications are processed ten days after the results are announced. Rank lists are

prepared based on merit and admission dates are announced. Special categories like sports quota, ex-

service men quota and physically challenged quota are given due priority. Admissions are effected based

on community reservation as per the government regulations. The institution forms a group of committee

members to verify the authenticity of the required documents for admission and validated by the

principal.

Scholarships are provided to the students like Scholarship for SC/ST, OBC and Scholarship

for the Tamil Medium students.

Students are getting good quality stationeries at reasonable price at Student Cooperative

Free Bus Pass is issued to the students under the Tamil Nadu Government Scheme with the

co-ordination of the college. Railway concession forms are received from the railway

The Leos of our college actively involved in the cleanliness of the campus. In an effort to save mother

earth from the global warming the Leos planted many saplings in the college premises with the help of

Ln.Mohamad Naveen of Lions club of Mylapore for sponsoring the saplings.

On 31.7.2014 YWCA and NSS unit organized environment awareness campaign in that Exnora secretary

participated and gave a speech.

Security measures are introduced in mark sheets and Answer books. Results are

published in the Websites immediately.

A team of three members of the Autonomy Review Committee formed by the University of

Madras visits the institution and offers their feedback to the UGC Autonomy Review

Committee . As a follow up on the confidential feedback, the UGC Autonomy Review

Committee assesses the academic and financial audit of the institution. Consequently, the

granting of extension of autonomy lies within the jurisdiction of the UGC Autonomy Review

Committee. Moreover, the Governing Body, comprising two representatives of the

Government, one representative from the Autonomy Review Committee of Madras University

and a few representatives of the academic body monitors the functioning of the institution

periodically to offer valid suggestions of further quality enhancement. A report is then

submitted to the affiliated University by the Institution.

With a view to continue the student relationship with the institution the Old Student Association is

formed and various endowment prizes are offered as a symbol of encouragement and recognition

of their efforts in academic and non-academic disciplines. Many staff members working the

college are the Alumni of this college and they have contributed valuably for student welfare.

Frequent meetings are conducted to honour such students and encourage consistent relationships

in the future.

Regular meetings are organized for the support of the students. To discuss the performance of

the students ward meetings are held. This association aids students in developing

entrepreneurial skills by providing Aavin outlet (a unit of Government of Tamil Nadu which

supplies Diary Products) to be managed by them. The PTA also helps the students by briefing

them of better opportunities in the job market based on their skills.

so that proper measures can be taken to rectify these issues. This will definitely offer a positive

Enviro Club is functional well with active participation of Dr. J. J. Arockia Rita, Co-ordinator, Mrs. S.

Nandini, Additional Co-ordinator and Mrs. G. Sharmila, Treasurer,Associate Professors of Zoology

Department. As a part of environment sensitization drive a one day seminar titled “Unavae marunthu”on

the importance of healthy food was organised on 02.02.2015. The event threw light on the importance of

our traditional food and its medicinal values. The absence of millets in our staple diet has resulted in

several life styles related disorders. An intervention programme of this type would certainly draw the

attention of the youth to build a disease free nation. The Inauguration started with Thamizh thai vazhthu

and lighting of Kuthuvillaku by the dignitaries. Chief Guest delivered the inaugural address. Inauguration

was followed by the first session -speaker Dr. Narasimhan, Associate Professor in Botany, Madras.

Christian College, Chennai on Importance of traditional plant food. The second session was addressed

by Dr. Joel Gnanadass, Assistant Professor in Plant Biology & Biotechnology Loyola College on

Importance of Millets in todays’ Context. Dr. Manivannan, Head, Sidda Doctors Association, Chennai,

gave an insight in to Sidda medicine for women. In the valedictory, he distributed prizes to students.

Around 130 students from various departments and colleges participated actively in the seminar. The

sessions were more interactive. Students were given participation certificates followed by vote of thanks

and National Anthem. On the 3rd February stalls were arranged for the sale of organically grown millets

and millet products.

Enviro club of Q.M.G.C, Chennai also put up a stall at Chennai trade fare , Island grounds on 28-2-2015

and 1-3-2015. Volunteers of the club made charts displaying photographs of various types of pollution in

and around city. Also they explained about the ill effects of these pollution on human health. Thus

awareness was created to the public for two days. Biscuits made up of Millets like varagu, thinai,

kuthiraivalli, kambu samai etc., are kept for display and their importance was explained to the public.

To incorporate new strategies to meet the academic challenges to blend with the recent trends in

the job market aimed towards the holistic development of the students.

An orientation programme for the new entrants of all disciplines to familiarise the norms and

facilities in the college as well as expose them to practical learning experiences.

Regular Alumnae and PTA meetings in each dept. to be effected with the aim to provide better

curriculum methods and create awareness among the stake holders.

All departments aim to achieve 100% pass academically and new teaching methodologies to be

introduced to reach the specific target. Simultaneously practical training in their respective

disciplines to be given for better scope in job opportunities.

The dept. of Physics plans to induct a PG programme with a futuristic outlook to extend it further

into a research dept. Moreover service coaching classes are to be conducted for students’ welfare.

Reading club, Storytelling workshops, Guest lectures on current topics in English literature are

planned for the next year. Conservation of Heritage buildings and its methods are to be

highlighted by the department of Historical Studies to inculcate an awareness of preserving the

history of Indian Architectural Heritage. Journals are to be introduced in all disciplines for

improving the knowledge of students.

The IQAC plans to conduct a national seminar on quality education and quality teaching

methodologies for students and teachers to upgrade learning and evaluation techniques by using

innovative measures.

To uphold the quality of the student’s learning skills in core subjects, regular facilitating and

consistent monitoring of the student’s progress done in class hours.

Involving faculty members to prepare the ICT Information and Communication Technology

enabled syllabi for effective teaching and learning class rooms.

To cater the requirements of the Job market ,it is planned to organize career oriented courses for

students such as a. Students to become Computer say will be trained in Microsoft Office, Tally,

DTP, Photo shop etc. b. Preparing the students for Public Service Administration Jobs by

Annual Report of COE, UGC, Union and other committees of our College

Controller of Examination

The college has become an autonomous institution during the year 2004-2005. This status has been

extended till 2017. Mrs. K. Jothi, Associate Professor and Head of the Physics department holds the

responsibility of the Controller of Examinations and Dr. V. UshaRani, Associate Professor and Head of

the Department of Advanced Zoology holds the Assistant Controller of Examinations position. The office

of the Controller of Examinations functions effectively with the aid of three computer programmers, two

Data Entry operators, one UG assistant and one office assistant. Dr. Geetha Rajan, HOD, Commerce

dept, Dr. Parvathi, HOD, Mathematics dept and Dr. R. GeethaRani, HOD, English dept are part of the

autonomous and Passing Board members. In the year 2014-15, the University treasury under the heading

of grants has sanctioned 16 lakhs and the same year Rs. 79,513 has been spent towards the conduct of

meetings by curriculum development committee, finance committee and educational committee. The

departments of Computer Science, Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology and Advanced Zoology had

conducted international seminars for which one lakh has been issued as expenditure. Apart from these, a

few workshops and seminars conducted by National Cadet Corps, Enviro Club, Legal awareness club,

Consumer Club and Placement and Career Development Cell and IQAC for which Rs. 54000 were spent.

Photocopying machines were purchased for the COE office and the College Office towards which an

amount of Rs. 2.32.430 has been used as expenditure. Moreover, the renovation of the History,

Commerce and Economics departments has led to an expenditure of Rs. 2,35,000/- A Smart room has

been constructed for Rs. 1,00,000/- Grills for the window panes of Anna Block II floor and in the General

Library have been installed for an amount of Rs. 2,00,000/- An amount of Rs.1,02,774 was spent towards

fixing notice boards and key hanging boards; Rs. 97,493 was spent for purchase and installing of college

name board, dept. name boards and boards for showing the directions. The auditorium has been

renovated for Rs. 1.32.678/- ; installation of grills in Anna Block and Anna Annexe for which Rs.

5,50,000/- was spent. Toilet in the library has been renovated; tiles have been replaced in a few

classrooms and in rooms 90 and 91 roof and floor have been renovated for students’ use.

Results for 2013-14

UG- 1081 have passed. Diploma course- 58 have passed. PG- 218 have passed. M.Phil- 21 have passed.

Under the UG programme 95% have passed, PG programme 96% have passed and M.Phil programme

100% have passed. This year onwards the students could do online verification for their graduation

certificates and eligibility certificates.

UGC

UGC of our college has been constituted with Dr.P.Parvathi,Head,PG and Research Department of

Mathematics as coordinators and Dr.K.Vijaya,Head, PG and Research Department of Historical Studies,

Dr.Ananthi Sheshasaayee, PG and Research Department of Computer Science as additional

Coordinators. This team has processed and sent on FIP Ph.D applications of 11 faculty members namely

Mrs.N.R.Viji of Historical Studies, Mrs P.Geetha of Physics department, Mrs.Bhavani,

Mrs.M.Chandrakumari, Mrs,G.Meenakshi, Mrs.K.Jayanthi and Mrs S.P.Poongothai of Chemistry

Department,,Mrs.N.Krithika and Mrs T.Vimala of Plant Biology and Bio Technology Department,

Mrs.Sowmya and Mrs A.Ananthalakshmi of Home Science Department.Seven Faculty members were

selected for FIP. An amount of Rs .15,85,000/- has been sanctioned by UGC to our college during the

academic year 2014-15.


College Union

College Union is efficiently managed by Dr.S.Hemalatha, Head, Department of Tamil and staff members.

Union Election was held at 07.08.2014.Representatives from various Departments voted and selected

Union Representatives. On 15.08.2014 Independence Day was celebrated Our Principal

Dr.K.R.Seethalakshmi hoisted the Flag and addressed the gathering. College Union was inaugurated on

13.09.2014 by Dr.M.Devadass, Director of Collegiate Education. On 26.01.2015 Republic Day was

celebrated and Miss S.Sathyavathy, Associate Professor, Department of Tamil hoisted the flag and

addressed the gathering. Sarvodhya Day Prayer meeting was held on 30.01.2015 .On 06.03.2015

Muthtamil vizha was celebrated and Dr.Thangamarimuthu presided the function. Cultural programmes

were given by Ambedkar Arts Group.

Physical Education

On 5.3.2015, the Annual Sports Day was conducted with the inauguration ceremony done by the

legislative Assembly member of T. Nagar, Thiru. V.P. Kalairajan. The former Principal of the

Kumbakonam Government college, Dr. K.Lalitha also participated. Under the University zonal groups of

A and B , the following games were conducted such as FootBall, Kho-Kho and Cricket and the students

gained II place; in tennikoit, shuttlecock, tabletennis and net ball they secured third and fourth places.

The students have been selected for all games under the B category of the University Branch. The

students are G. Kalpana, M. Bhuvaneswari, N. Kokila of Commerce dept, G. Suganya of Computer

Science dept, and P. Shantakumari of History dept have been selected for Kho-Kho zonal branch; G.Uma

Maheswari, D. Suganya of Maths dept., C. Gomathi of English dept., and V. Rohinisree, R. Sowmiya and

J.Divya of Commerce dept were selected for Cricket; V. Soniya of Economics dept., A. Bhuvaneswari,

A. Preethi Diana, and A. Jansi of Commerce dept were selected for Kabadi; D. Suganya , J.Jayapriya of

Maths, N. Tharani of Zoology and T. Balasangeetha of History were selected for Ball Badminton; M.

Asha of N&D, R.Marthammal, R. Sowmiya, S. Divyanga, M. Thenmozhi and G. Ramya of Commerce

dept., . Rekha of Computer Science dept and M. Harichandra of Economics department were selected for

Foot Ball. At the district level, beach kabadi sport conducted by SDAT for which the students won I

place. Kabadi tournament conducted at Bharathi Womens’ College on the occasion of their 50th year

celebrations, the students won III place with a cash award of Rs. 2000/- and certificates. The students also

won II place in various events like Kho-Kho, FootBall and Ball Badminton at SDNB Vaishnav Women’s

College, Chromepet. G.Suganya of Comp. Science won I place in Archery. On 18.2.2015, the students

won I place in Kho-Kho and Ball Badminton, II place in Hand Ball and III place in Shuttle Cock

conducted at Anna Adarsh College, Chennai.

General Library

General library is functioning well by Dr.Mrs.K.Chandra, Librarian. There are about 72, 000 books and

80 magazines in the General Library and Department Library. There are about 110 CDs in the General

Library. Digital Library with six Laptop and internet Facility is functioning well. Three Computers,

Printers and Xerox facility is available in Net Resource Centre. Dr.S.R.Ranganathan, Father of Library

Science Endowment Prize is given to Miss A .Deepika of III BA Economics for highest usage of Library

in Three years.


College Hostel

The hostel has been effectively monitored and functioned by our respected Principal

Dr. K. R.Seethalakshmi , as the Warden and Dr. K.Nirmala, Dept. of Computer Science as the Deputy

Warden. S. Anitha and A. Murshithabanu were appointed as matrons of the hostel. A number of 331

students stay here. The Hostel Committee members include Ms.K.Jothi, HOD, Dept. of Physics, Ms.

GeethaRajan, HOD, Department of Commerce, Dr. S. Hemalatha HOD of Tamil Dept., and Dr. V.

Usharani HOD, Dept. of zoology whose thorough monitoring has helped in the development of the

hostel. Altogether 18 rooms in the old hostel and 25 rooms in the new Hostel are being used. A CCTV

camera has been installed for the safety of the students. Water facilities have been extended, roof of the

old hostel has been replaced and further renovation has been done to improve the facilities for the

hostelites.

Old students Association

The Old Students’ Association has been spearheaded by the Principal and Dr. R.Geetha rani, HOD, Dept.

of English along with the assistance of a Secretary and a Treasurer for successful functioning of the

Association. Every year the final year students of UG and PG subscribe an amount of Rs. 100/- for their

membership. This Association takes care of the cleanliness of the college and has dug borewells for water

facilities, and planting of trees to maintain good and healthy atmosphere. The OSA has published in

newspapers their forthcoming meetings of the old students every year.

Parents Teacher’s Association

Parents Teachers Association has been headed by Principal Dr. K. R.Seethalakshmi Dr.V.Usharani,

Head, Department of Zoology is the coordinator of PTA. The committee Members are Dr.Sarala,

Mrs,Kanmani Vennila, Mrs.Yazhini Jagadesan, Mrs.C.Kavitha and Mrs.Sharmila of Zoology

Department. Two meetings were held in the academic year with parents and students. Parents views on

Academic and non-Academic programmes were received and Principal and Dr.V.Usharani, coordinator

gave suggestions.

UGC – HEPSN

This association has been formed for the welfare of the physically challenged students who were

coordinated by the Assistant Professor in Tamil Dept., Ms. A. Rajeswari. Along with her, Dr. Nirmala of

Tamil Dept., Dr. E. Jayanthi of History dept., and S. Jemima Anitha rani of English dept. have taken the

responsibility to assist her in her work. Through such measures about 20 physically challenged students

from these departments have benefitted. These students are sent for various competitions to other

institutions and have won laurels for the college. Regular reading sessions are conducted as an academic

venture to help them in their performance in examinations. These students also participate in workshops

and seminars conducted in other colleges. They also received hearty appreciation from the NAAC Peer

team who visited our college for Accreditation. On behalf of the Southern Blind Society, the coordinator

conducted a workshop for the benefit of such students.


Students’ Grievance and Redressal Cell

Under the leadership of the Principal, and other members of the cell include Ms. Padma Samson, Physical

Education Director of the college, Ms. R.Geetha Rani of English dept., Mrs. V. Usha Rani of Zoology

dept. and Dr. K.Jothi Rani of Tamil dept. the cell has been effectively functioning with the objective to

help the students performance academically as well as counseling were given in order to enhance their

character and mould them into better citizens of the country. Moreover, experts in psychology and

sociology are invited to brief the students and create awareness of the dangers lurking in the world and to

equip themselves with strong convictions on morality and progress. The cell aids in the holistic

development of every student and helps the needy who are economically weak and unable to bear the cost

of education.

International students counselling centre

About 9 Students from Mauritius opt for Tamil Literature and to help them various seminars and

workshops are conducted as well as they are permitted to participate in such events for their development.

They have volunteered for the physically and visually disabled by helping them on a three day workshop

at the southern level conducted in Chennai. They also participate in oratorical, music, essay and such

competitions and have won prizes as well. This forum has been led by Dr. K. A. Jothi Rani of Tamil

Dept. and this year’s award for the best student who won I place in Xii std with maximum marks goes to

the Mauritius student Indiana Paiyanthi.

Computer Literacy Programme

The computer literacy program is conducted for Non- computer science students, with the

Head of the Computer Science Department Dr. Ananthi Sheshasaayee as the Co-ordinator. The students

are being trained on the state – of – art technologies both theoretically and practically. Currently 106

students have been enrolled under this programme. The orientation of the training is towards job fetching

in the IT marked equipped with renowned skills. The CLP lab has been exclusively designed and geared

with updated systems oriented towards providing the required knowledge to the students and for their

upliftment in computer literacy.

Fine Arts

The activities of Fine Arts has been functioning well by Dr.K.Vijaya, Head of the Department and the

Faculty members of Department of Historical Studies .Off Stage Events like Drawing, Make up, Flower

Arrangements and Rangoli was held on 02.03.2015 and On Stage Events like Dance, Drama and Music

was held on 3 and 4 March, 2015.Experts from various fields came to judge and prizes were given.

On 27.6.2014 NSS unit and Aryma sangam jointly organized one lakh eye donation campaign for the

guiness record.

On 31.7.2014 YWCA and NSS unit organized environment awareness campaign in that Exnora secretary

participated and gave a speech.

On 13.8.2014 Yuvasakthi and NSS unit jointly organized Kalachara Sudhanthiram. Thiru .Girija

Ragavan, author of ladies special monthly magazine gave a talk to the students.

On 16.9.2014 blood donation and other treatment campaign were held on behalf of this various

competition were held for the students. NSS Students participated and won many prizes

On the world Environment day 08-10-2014, 80 NSS students participated in the programme of planting

1000 saplings held at Palmgrove Hotel, Chennai headed by NSS Programme Officer Ms. P

Murugeswari.

On 02-11-2014 Tamil Nadu State Aids Prevention Department, Labour Welfare Association and

Government Employee Welfare Association jointly conducted blood donation campaign. NSS students

and Programme Officer, Tmt M Kalpana also participated.

On 16-12-2014 students were given training in stitching skill as a mark of self employment.

On 01-12-2014 NSS students and Programme Officers participated in the Aids awareness human chain

rally, and this news was published in Maalai Murasu Newspaper.

On 22-12-2014, 100 NSS students participated in the Marina Beach Cleaning Programme.

On 05-02-2015, KRP and Queen Mary’s College NSS units jointly organised road safety awareness

programme. In that our NSS students participated in various competitions and won many prizes.

Programme Officer Tmt. Leema Rose and Tmt. M. Kalpana also participated.

On 22-02-2015, personality development training programme was conducted. In that our College 400

NSS students participated in the dance programme and won the cash prize award of Rs.10000/-.

On 21-02-2015, TVS and NSS jointly organized road safety awareness programme. In that, quiz

programme programmes were conducted and our NSS students participated and won many prizes.

On 01-03-2015, Marathan Race was conducted at Ashok Pillar, Chennai and our NSS students

participated and won many prizes, headed by Programme Officer Dr. Tmt. M Shanmughavalli.

On 09-03-2015, YRC and NSS jointly organised Women’s Day. In that, University Professor Dr

Ambrose and NSS Programme Coordinator Thiru .Bhaskaran participated and gave a special lecture.

NCC

Our College has two wings in the NCC headed by Capt.R.Selvi, NCC Officer and Assistant Professor,

Department of Historical Studies, The Army wing consists of 62 Cadets and Navy wing consists of 20

Cadets. Ten cadets attended “B” Certificate Examination 2013-2015.Thirteen Cadets attended “C”

Certificate Examination from our College.

Army Achievements

Orientation Programme was conducted to motivate the first year cadets (Army and Naval Wing) and their

parents on 21.08.2014. Our commanding officer Lt.Col.T.J.Nacharia, S.M gave a sparkling motivational

speech to the cadets. The principal presided over the function.

One day workshop on “Grooming Tomorrow’s Leader” was organized by Quaid –e-Millath College for

Women (A) NCC on 09.09.2014 and more than 100 cadets (both Army and Naval Wing) from various

colleges in the Chennai city participated. Dr.C.Shylendra Babu IPS, ADGP Coastal Security group


inaugurated and delivered the key note address while Lt.Col.J.Zacharia S.M, Commanding officer1 (TN)

GIRLS Bn NCC presided over the workshop. Resource persons from various fields presented their

lectures.

“Special National Integration camp” held at kakkinada, Andhrapradesh from 09.10.2014 to 0.10.2014

was attended by CDT G.Anitha and CDT S.Sumithravalli.

“NCC DAY” was celebrated at DG.Vaishnav College on 08.11.2014, two cadets of our college

Cdt.K.Jeevitha participated in Guards and G.Anitha participated in Piloting.

“CATC CUM RDC LAUNCH-II” was held at VEL TECH College, Avadi from 19.12.2014 to

28.12.2014 and six cadets attended.

“Marina Republic Day Camp” was held at Sathybama University, Sholinganallur, from 03.01.2015 to

12.01.2015, it was attended by ten cadets.

“Marina Republic Day Parade -2015” held at Chennai Marina Beach and was attended by nine cadets on

26.01.2015.

“B” Certificate Examination 2014-15 was attended by 12 cadets of our college.

“C” Certificate Examination on 28 February and 1 March of 2015 was attended by 13 cadets.

SSB Workshop was conducted by Loyola College –NCC on 1 and 11 March 2015.Eleven Cadets of our

“Tuberculosis Awareness Rally” was conducted by Women’s Christian College on 30.09.2015. Twenty

cadets attended from our college.

“Chennai Day -375 “celebration was held at our college on 23.08.2014 in the name of “Maruvom Mara

Tharathudan”.Our Principal Dr.K.R.Seethalakshmi M.A,Ph.D., flagged off the rally. Men and Women

cadets from various colleges also participated in the rally.

“Clean Chennai” event was held at our college on 06.12.2014. Our Principal Dr.K.R.Seethalakshmi M.A,

Ph.D., presided over the programme .College campus cleaning was done.

“Human Rights awareness rally” was held at our college .Our Principal Dr.

workshop on First Aid and Disaster Management was held on February 27, 28 and 1March.About 101

students and Nine Faculty members participated. 50 students have registered their names for Organ

Donation Camp held in Loyola College in Chennai.

Red Ribbon Club

Mrs S.Kamalapadmavathy, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics is the coordinator of RRC. On

24.03.2015, Mr.Kahiravan, District Secretary of Tamilnadu Red Ribbon club spoke on the topic

“Celebration of Life” .He spoke on AIDS, HIV awareness. Mrs Bhagyalakshmi spoke on AIDS /HIV 0n

06.04.15. P.Sangeetha ,K.Kalpana and Jeniammal won prizes in Drawing Competition .

REPORT ON ONE DAY LEGAL AWARENESS PROGRAMME

A Legal Awareness Programme was jointly organized by the Women Develoment Cell of the Quid – E –

Millath Government College for Women (Autonomous) with Tamil Nadu Federation of Women Lawyers

and Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development on 11.03.2015.The programme started with

the welcome address by Dr.K.R.Seethalakshmi, Principal of the college, follow3ed by the Presidential

address of Mrs.K.Santha Kumar, President, TNFWL. Hon’ble Justice R.Mahadevan, Judge, High Court,

Madras, delivered the special address. He highlighted the efforts of Rahul Sankrutyan, Periyar and

Women like Velunachiyar and Anjali Ammal. Dr. S.Lalitha and Mr.Bairagi Suresh, faculty members of

RGNIYD spoke on the importance of legal awareness programme. IN the first session, Mrs.Y.Kavitha,

Advocate, High Court, Madras splke on violence against women and pointed out about different types of

abuse against women, the authorities who help the affected women and the procedure to approach the

authorities. Mrs.Suseela devi, Advocate, High Court, Madras spoke on violence against women and

need for the women’s rights. Dr. K. Vijaya, HOD of Historical Studies and the convener of the WDC

proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs.Gajalakshmi Rajendran, Advocate, High Court, Madras spoke on sexual

harassment against women. Mrs.G.Manimegalai, former MLA and Parliamentarian of TNFWL

welcomed the gathering for the Valedictory function. Hon’ble Justice of K.N.Basha, Chairman,

Intellectual property, Appellate Board delivered the special address and distributed the certificates to the

participants. Mrs.J.Stella, Assistant Professor, dept. of Historical studies proposed the Vote of thanks. All

the speakers interacted with the audience and answered the queries raised by the students. The interactive

sessions were vibrant with the enthusiastic participation of the students.

Entrepreneurship Development Cell

Entrepreneurship Development Cell which is a unit of the Department of Economics organized

Workshop cum Exhibition on Motivation of Entrepreneurship among Government College

Students on 11.12.14. Mrs.D.Sangamithirai and Dr.M.Padmavathy, Assistant Professors of Department

of Economics are the Assistant coordinators of EDC ,motivated the students to be a budding

entrepreneur and participate in the exhibition. The Chief Guest Mrs.Smita Nagaraj I.A.S Principal

Secretary to the Government and Director of Entrepreneurial Development Institute gave inaugural

address and inaugurated the Exhibition . About 100 participants from Eight Departments participants in

the Exhibition. They had the experience of selling their products and were highly motivated.

Mrs.D.Sangamithirai and Dr.M.Padmavathy took initiatives in getting training programme from EDI,

Chennai. They coordinated with EDI and obtained financial assistance worth Rs.1,17,000 from

Entrepreneurship Development Institute ,Guindy for sending Nine students to obtain skill

improvement training on Packaging for 30 days by Indian Institute of Packaging (An Autonomous body

under Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of India) in January 2015.

Entrepreneurial Development Institute, Government of Tamil Nadu as part of the ongoing drive to create

entrepreneurship awareness among college students, a major awareness programme was organized in

112 colleges in Tamil Nadu. In our college, EDC and ICTACT organized a Half Day Seminar on

Entrepreneurship Awareness Campaign (EAC) on 18.02.15 for 300 Students. Twenty students were

selected from the participants and Five Day Awareness Programme was conducted in May 2015. On the

last day, students were taken to Simpson Company ,Chennai for gaining practical knowledge through

Industrial visit by the Assistant Coordinators.


Dr.R.Maya, EDC Coordinator and Mrs.J.Vanitha, Placement Officer attended the Entrepreneurship

Faculty Development Programme held at EDI, Chennai on 1st and 2nd November,2014.

Consumer Club

A workshop On Awareness and Exercise of Consumer Rights, for the college students was organized

on 25th March 2015 in the college premises . Mrs.Swathi, The Director project, Consumer Association of

India addressed the gathering on the need for awareness among the students. All the members of the

consumer club (around 200) participated the workshop, Mrs.Geetha Rajan, Principal incharge and Head

Department of Commerce welcomed the gathering. Dr.R.Maya, head department of Economics

introduced the chief guest.Dr.K.malarvizhi, co-odinator consumer club-QMGCW proposed vote of

thanks. The Chief guest motivated the students to take part in creating awareness among the public in and

around their residing area. Mrs.Swathy also offered one month internship programme for the student

members of QMGCW. Students enthusiastically expressed their willingness to take part during their

summer vacation.

ENVIRO CLUB

Dr. J.J.Arockia Rita, Co-ordinator, Mrs. S. Nandini, Additional Co-ordinator and Mrs.G.Sharmila,

Treasurer are in charge of Enviro Club.As a part of environment sensitization drive a one day seminar

titled “Unavaemarunthu” on the importane of healthy food was organized on 02.02.2015. The event

threw light on the importance of ou traditional food and its medicinal values. The absence of millets in

our staple diet has resulted in several life styles related disordes. An intervention programme of this type

would certainly draw the attention of the youth to build a disease free nation. The Inauguration started

with Thamizhthaivazhthu and lighting of Kuthuvillaku by the dignitaries. Chief Guest Dr. (Mrs).

K.R.Seetha Lakshmi, Principal, Quaid-E-Millath Govt. College delivered the inaugural address.

Inauguration was followed by the first session – speaker Dr. Narasimhan, Associate Professor in Botany,

M.C.C., Chennai. He spoke on the ‘Importance of traditional plant food’. The second session was

addressed by Dr. Joel Assistant Professor in Plant Biology & Botany, Loyola College, Chennai. He

delivered his speech on ‘Importance of Millets in todays’ Context’. After lunch break Dr. Manivannan,

Head, Sidda Doctors Association, Ch. Gave an insight into Sidda medicine for Indian Women. In the

valedictory, he distributed prizes to students. Around 130 students from various departments and colleges

Students were given participation certificates followed by vote of thanks and National Anthem. On the 3rd

February stalls were arranged for the sale of organically grown millets and millet products.

Enviro club of Q.M.G.C. Chennai also put up a stall at Chennai trade fare, Island grounds on 28.02.2015

and 01.03.2015. Volunteers of the club made charts displaying photographs of various types of pollution

in and around city. Also they explained about the ill effects of these pollution on human health. Thus

awareness was created to the public for two days. Biscuits made up of Millets like varagu, thinai,

Kuthiraivalli, Kambu samai etc., are kept for display and their impotance was explained to the public.


LEO CLUB OF QMGC(W)

Motto: Each One Reach One

LEO CLUB OF QMGC(W), the youth wing of the Lions Club of Mylapore, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Was

instituted in December, 2013. With 20 students from various departments and Ms. Vijayshree. G,

Assistant Professor, Department of English as the Campus Advisor.

This year the Club took up nine outreach programmes, with the new team. Leo.Priyanka, from II BSc

Computer Science as the President, Leo Thulsidha, I MA English as the secretary, and Leo Ruthammal,II

BA English as the treasurer of the club. At present the club has 46 leos.

The objectives of the Club are

(i) To help Leos realize their innate leadership skills.

(ii) To gain a experience to serve and make service a way of life

(iii) To create/ identify opportunities for service.

Leo club of QMGC(W) with these goals started it first project called “Each one Teach one”. “Service

beings at home” The club took up an in-house project- “Each one Teach one”. Its a permanent in-house

project to help the fifteen visually challenged student of the college from various departments. An hour,

after the college hours was dedicated to read aloud the lessons to the visually challenged students. The

Leos of our college also serve as scribes during the examination both within the college and in other

colleges like Presidency College, Chennai.

The second project was “Joy of giving”. The club collected dresses, note books, pencils, toys from the

students and the staff of the college to donate it to the orphanage Monte ford Siragugal, At Besant Nagar.

The third project was also in Monte Ford Siragugal. Catering the demands of the inmates the club gave

62 school bags donated by Ms. Lochini, Associate Professor, Department of English, to the children in

the orphanage as Diwali gift. The Leos also enjoyed celebrating Diwali at the orphanage with the kids.

As the fourth project the Leos provided lunch to the inmates of the Orphanage, Monte Ford at Besant

Nagar, Chennai, on 15 Aug, 2014.

The fifth project was “Clean QMGC”. The Leos actively cleaned up the college. The cleanliness of the

campus is taken care of by the club.

The sixth project was “Plant a tree, save life”. In an effort to save mother earth from the global warming

the Leos planted many saplings in the college premises. We record our sincere gratitude to Ln.Mohamad

Naveen of Lions club of Mylapore for sponsoring the saplings.

The Club then took up cleaning of the restrooms in the college as their seventh project. All the restrooms

of the college were cleaned up with the help of the parent club. The Lions club of Mylapore.One of the

inmates of Montford Siragual, who was appearing for the X public exams was donated books, guides, and

Question banks.


The nineth project was executed, with the help of some volunteers from the Tata Consultancy Services,

the Leos and the NSS students of this college and Corporation of Chennai. The club meticulously

cleaned-up the Compound wall of the college by peeling off the posters and painting it with colorful

pictures and quotes on women’s education.

Apart from the outreach programmes 8 Leos attended the Annual Leos Camp at Zac, Valley,

Koddaikkanal in the month of November and underwent Leadership training for three days. Leo

Priyanka, The president of the club was awarded the “Best Women Camper”. 23 Leos attended the Leos

Multiple Meet at Meenakshi College, Kodamppakam. The leos of our college also participated in the

Annual Leos Culturals at CEG, Chennai and won third prize in group dance.

This year was a very fruitful year for Leo Club of QMGC(W). Both the college and the club are proud of

Leo Athika, former secretary of QMCG club, being promoted to Leo Council as the Council Treasurer.

SECOND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON

INNOVATIONS IN CONTEMPORARY IT RESEARCH (ICITR – 2015)

ON 6th & 7th FEBRUARY, 2015

The Department of computer science in Quaid-e-Millath Government College for Women

(Autonomous), a premier institution located in the heart of Chennai city, imparting quality education and

serving the cause of women’s education conducted Two days International Conference titled Second

International Conference on Innovations in Contemporary IT research on 6th and 7th of February

2015. This conference is the first of its kind among the Government Colleges in Tamil Nadu.

The conference was inaugurated on 6th February 2015 at 9:00 a.m. by Dr. M. Devadass,

Director(FAC), Directorate of Collegiate Education, Chennai, The Vice Chancellor, University of

Madras, Prof.R. Thandavan along with the Chief Guests Dr. R. Jaganathan, Former Vice

Chancellor, Middle East University, United Arab Emirates and Dr. Pinnamaneni Bhanu Prasad,

Director (R&D) Kelenn Technology, as the Dignitaries.

This conference plays a vital roles in various fields of information Technology, with the eminent

Resource person’s informative and thought provoking speech from International and National level to

full fill the thrust towards knowledge sharing among the Researchers, Academicians and Industrialists. It

also provides a premier forum for the dissemination of innovative practical development, sharing

research and experience based knowledge among Researchers.

Around 132 papers from both National and International level were received, with our expertise peer

review team’s analysis 14 International and 82 National level papers were chosen and published in the

conference proceeding. Around 315 participants from various Institutions and Industries actively

participated in the conference ICITR 2015. The technical sessions includes paper presentations by

participants in eight categories in different sessions with intellectual chair persons.

The Valediction on 7th February 2015 at 4:30 p.m. was highlighted by Mr. Rajan T. Joseph, Director

(Education), Computer Society of India, and Dr. Natarajan Gajendran, Editor, Indian Journal of

Science and Technology. Certificates were distributed to the participants. The conference ended up with

valuable information relating to the recent Research trends and served multipurpose requirements in the

field of Computer Science and Technology. And

Report on National Seminar on “Current Scenario of Plants as Potential Drugs”

A National Seminar was conducted on “Current Scenario of Plants as Potential Drugs” on 03.01.2015 at

our college Auditorium. The inaugural session was started with prayer song and lighting the

Kuthuvilakku by our honourable Chief guests. Dr. M.Devadass, Director of Collegiate Education (FAC),

Tamil Nadu was kind enough to give inaugural address. Dr. V.Kanthimathi, Joint Director of Collegiate

Education, Chennai Region delivered the key note address. Seminar proceedings was released by our

Director Dr.M.Devadass.

After inauguration, invited speakers as mentioned in the programme delivered the lectures. They covered

almost all the areas of plant drug researches from traditional to molecular level. Novel ideas were given

by both Siddha and Ayurvedic doctors about the use of plants as medicines to cure various diseases. The

seminar was instrumental not only to englighten the student community on the current aspects of plant

medicine but also to kindle their interest towards research oriented careers.

About 150 participants had attended the Seminar including PG students, research scholars and staff

members of our college and colleges of Chennai and also from L.N.Govt. College, Ponneri and Govt

College, Walajapet. Seminar kit with file, notepad, pen and Seminar Proceedings was given to the

participants. Seminar session included lecturers, paper presentation and poster presentation. Paper


presentation session was chaired by Dr. P. Agastian, Associate Professor, Dept of Plant Biology and

Biotechnology, Loyola College, Chennai – 34 and Dr. K.P. Girivasan, Associate Professor, Dept. of Plant

Biology and Plant Biotechnology, Govt. arts College for Men, Nandanam, Chennai. Totally eight

members presented their research findings. The Poster presentation session was chaired by Dr.

C.V.Chittibabu, Associate Professor, Dept. of Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology, Presidency

College Chennai. ‘Summing up of Seminar was presented by Dr. P. Agastian. The Valedictory address

was given by Dr. P.T.V.Lakshmi, Associate Professor Dept. of Bioinformatics, Pondicherry Central

University. The Certificates and prizes were distributed to the participants by Dr. P.T.V. Lakshmi.

Seminar came to an end with the National Anthem.

The Department of Zoology organised a National Seminar on Awareness about Eye on 12.02.2015.

Experts from Sankara Nethralaya Dr.Lily Therasa,Dr.Angaiyakanni,Dr.Jaymurugapandian and

Dr.Bhagyalakhmi gave lectures .On 09.03.2015, a Seminar on Awareness about Women Health was

organised on Women’s Day. Dr.Kajala Jabin, Pauls Perkin Elmar Science Ltd and Dr.Vanathi Saptharishi

DCH gave special address.

CHENNAI LITERARY FESTIVAL – 2015

Quaid-E-Millath Government College for Women (Autonomous) in association with Chennai

Literary Association celebrated Chennai Literary Festival on 09th January 2015 by conducting a

workshop on Story Telling. Ms. Sudha Ravi, Success Manthra Consultant was the Resource Person.

Dr.C.K.Mallika, Asst.Professor of English was the co-coordinator for this programme. There was an

overwhelming response. 74 students (UG, PG and Research Scholar) of various disciplines from 08

colleges participated in the workshop. It was an activity based interactive sessions. In the first session, the

Resource Person thoroughly explained the elements of Story- Telling with illustrations followed by an

activity to the students. The students were divided into different groups. Chart, crayons, scissors and

other stationery items were provided along with certain prompts. With the help of the chosen prompt

each group had to make up a story through pictures first and then present it on stage as a group. Each

group was evaluated by the Resource Person and the group’s strengths and weaknesses were discussed.

There was a tea-break for 15 minutes. All were given biscuits and tea. After that, in the second session

the students at random selection were given a picture on a dice and five minutes time for them to weave

a story and narrate it by incorporating the learned techniques of story-telling. The sessions were

thoroughly enjoyed by the students as well as the staff members. On the whole the workshop, in its true

sense was a grand success. Certificates were distributed to all participants.

Department of Tamil and Chennai Literary Association organised literary festival on 10.01.15 , A

workshop on Tamil literature was conducted by Dr.Arunai Balaravayan, Former Head Department of

Tamil ,Loyola College and Dr.Selva Shanmugam. Students were benefited.

SEMINAR ON EDUCATION AND EMPLOYABILITY SKILL DEVELOPMENT

One day seminar on Education and Employability Skill Development sponsored by RGNIYD was

organised on 20- February,2015. Chief Guest-Dr.S.Thirumagan, Controller of Examination, University of

Madras,Ch.5. Dr.D.Sarasa,Dr.M.Shanmugavalli,Mrs.S.Kavitha of Zoology Department were the

coordinators. Dr.K.R.Seethalakshmi, Principal delivered presidential address. This seminar illustrate

various ways of integrating employability skills, numerous teaching methodologies and training

techniques reveals that acquiring such skills requires innovative ways of delivering training that combine

core skills and technical skills. Recognizing the added hurdles that youth face in their day-today life this

seminar plays particular attention to this group. The concept of employability is a set of skills, knowledge

and personal attributes that make an individual more likely to secure and be successful in their chosen

occupation(s), the workforce, the community, and the economy. The programme aims to motivate and

enhance the skills of youth in career management, employability, generic skills, graduate attributes

university graduates.


B – TalHunt One day Work Shop on “Igniting Spirit of Entrepreneurship”

One day workshop “B – TalHunt” on “Igniting Spirit of Entrepreneurship” was organized by DICCI –

Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries”, on 9th April 2015, at the college Auditorium.

Mr.P.Senthil kumar, Vertical Head for Skills and Development, DICCI, Tamilnadu Chapter organized the

entire programme. Mrs.G.Sharmila and Dr.D.Sarasa from the Department of Advanced Zoology &

Biotechnology and Dr. Jyothi Rani of Department of Tamil were the organizing committee members.

The objective of the seminar was to provide a platform for the aspiring young Dalit women Students ,

who are interested in becoming an entrepreneur, and to enrich their knowledge on how to pursue with

business as their career. Dr.Mrs.K.Seethalakshmi, Principal, Quaid-e-millath Govt. College for Women ,

Inaugurated and delivered the Inaugural address. Mrs.Anitha Raj, President All India Women’s Wing –

DICCI, presided over the function.

Initiatives, Confederation of Indian Industry, Mrs.M.Vidhya, Assistant Engineer(Industries) , Department

of Industries and Commerce, Mrs.J.N.Punthavathy, IES, Assistant Director, Economic Investigation,

MSME -Chennai. Mr.S.Narendra Kumar, Deputy Manager, NSIC- Chennai. Dr.N.Raj Mohan, Bodhi-

Organizational & People Development Consultant Pvt.Ltd. from various Governmental organizations

shared their experiences on opportunities and benefits available under government schemes for Women

Entrepreneurs .

G.P.Lenn, Mentor, Tamilnadu Chapter, Mrs.S.Kalavathy , Vertical Head and member - National Women

Co- ordinator committee , Mrs.S.Zeraldin , Dicci – Pondy chapter , Mrs.P.J.Nishkalavani, vertical head –

Trading – Dicci , Mrs. K.G .Bhagyalakshmi, and Mr.Thomas Barnabas – Dicc –TN ,shared their

knowledge and Experience with the students. Students from final year Under graduate, Post graduate and

Research scholars were the beneficiaries . Students from other city colleges also participated .

Activities of Department of Home science

Swasthya started its activities for the year 2014-15 by sale of Food items , handicraft items ,artificial

jewellery, paper quilling, soft toys, Glass painting. The Department conducted five days workshop on

fruits and vegetables preservation in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Child Development,

Rajaji Bhavan from 14.07.2014 to 18.07.2014. The main objective of the programme is to develop

entrepreneurial skills on the preservation of fruits and vegetables. On 27.08.2014 one day WorKshop was

organized by a former student A.Malarkodi, who is an entrepreneur on jewllery making.The speaker

Dr.Mary Stella ,Reader,in Historical Studies gave a lecture on ways to reduce stress and increase

happiness on 11.12.2014.in collaboration with Self HELP Groups, College Bazaar was organized for 3

days(09.02.2015 -11.02.2015 Stalls were put up and sales were conducted. The products on sale included

food items .handicrafts, soft toys ,cosemetics, textiles, jewellery items, cleaning materials & decorative

items.
