Abstract
The aim of the experiment was to research whether leading questions have influence on people.
The study done is a Loftus and Palmer (1974) replication. It was laboratory experiment in which
16 students were tested. Independent variable was verb (smashed and hit) set in two conditions.
Dependent variable was the estimated speed of the car crashing when participants tried to recall
the stimulant (car crash video) from their memory. After watching a video, the participants were
given a series of questions. According to the question asked, participants gave different speed
estimates of cars when they crashed. Results indicated that the verb used could have influenced
the memory and resulted in false reconstructed memory. Question using verb smashed was
expected to give higher speed estimates than the question in which the critical verb hit was used.
Where the verb smashed was used, speed estimates were 34.89 kilometers per hour (km/h) higher,
so we can say that the experiment was successful.
