INTERMODAL: OUR BOLD NEW FRONTIER JERRY BELL, VP OF SALES, JOINS SYFAN LOGISTICS Syfan Says WINTER | 2015 If you visited our offices in the past 12 months, you’ve likely witnessed a lot of commotion. For a while, you would have seen a modular office trailer planted in the middle of our main parking lot. Inside our main office, you would have heard power drills and hammers as the walls came down to create more space. You certainly couldn’t miss all the fresh faces filling new work stations. In our last newsletter, I asked “What’s Happening Out There?” in reference to the rebounding economy. This time around you might ask me, “What’s Happening In There?” The simple answer is Intermodal. Syfan Logistics is unequivocally, undeniably, and indisputably fully vested in Intermodal – the complex delivery of products by multiple modes of transportation. With the improving economy, we have been growing naturally along with our customers’ increasing shipping needs. But our full-scale entry into the Intermodal business feels like being shot out of a cannon. Already, we have doubled our team from a year ago with nearly 150 professionals – and we are tracking toward 200 by the end of this year. Our new Intermodal division could well represent over a third of our business in the near future. Globally, Intermodal is currently the fastest-growing sector of the transportation industry, so our timing couldn’t be better. Nearly 25 million containers and trailers travel the United States every year using a combination of trucks, rail, and ocean carriers. Haven’t we always done Intermodal? You might say Syfan has always provided Intermodal services, but now we have the experience to back up our expertise. The catalyst has been our recent partnership with a major rail company and a national parcel delivery service. Consequently, we don’t just coordinate the occasional Intermodal shipment. We handle it on a daily basis. On the heels of our momentum, we have branched out to serve numerous other Intermodal customers, leading us to establish a new division, Syfan Intermodal. Our Intermodal team is led by James Syfan along with Jon Couch and Brian Miller. Our success still hinges on people, service The coordination of truck, rail, and shipping is complex. However, our success still goes back to the basics. A tradition of old-fashioned service. Relationships and networking across the country. Open communication with our customers. Our strong team of carrier partners. And industry-leading innovation with advanced technology such as our GPS tracking systems. SyfanSays WINTER | 2015

If you visited our offices in the past 12 months, you’ve likely witnessed a lot of commotion. For a while, you would have seen a modular office trailer planted in the middle of our

main parking lot. Inside our main office, you would have heard power drills and hammers as the walls came down to create more space. You certainly couldn’t miss all the fresh faces filling new work stations.

In our last newsletter, I asked “What’s Happening Out There?” in reference to the rebounding economy. This time around you might ask me, “What’s Happening In There?”

The simple answer is Intermodal.

Relationships and networking across the

country. Open communication with our customers. Our strong team of carrier partners. And industry-leading innovation with advanced technology such as our GPS tracking systems.

We have much to be thankful for this past holiday season and at the start of a New Year. I would like to thank all of you – our employees, customers and partners – for being a part of our growth and success. Best wishes for a happy and blessed 2015.

Syfan Logistics has been named the Industry of the Year within its home base of Gainesville-Hall County, Ga., just north of Atlanta.

Syfan was selected by the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce as the region’s top industry in the medium-size category for companies with 51 to 200 employees.

“We want to thank all our people who work at Syfan Logistics for this honor,” says Syfan CEO Jim Syfan. “They are the ones who get the job done and we couldn’t possibly do what we do without all the fine people who work with us. We are honored by this award and blessed to do business in Hall County.”

Syfan Logistics serves the most demanding shipping needs for temperature-controlled, dry vans or flatbed loads.

The company was founded by Jim Syfan and his sons, Greg and Steve, in 2011 and has grown to nearly 150 employees. In three years, Syfan Logistics has launched new products, increased sales, expanded and renovated its facilities, and added new equipment and new jobs.

Syfan Logistics, which was honored earlier this year as one of the Top 100 3PLs by Inbound Logistics, makes a $21 million annual economic impact on Gainesville-Hall County.

Each year, the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce honors small, medium and large industries at its annual Industry Awards Luncheon. The Chamber bases selection for the award on company growth, ethics, programs for employees and contributions to the community. There are more than 300 manufacturers, processors, distributors and service industry companies based in Hall County.

Syfan Logistics has been named one of the Top 100 Third-Party Logistics providers for 2014 by Inbound Logistics magazine, a national trade publication covering the transportation industry.

It is the first time that Syfan Logistics, founded in 2011, has earned a place in the Top 100.

Each year, Inbound Logistics’ editors research, conduct personal interviews and evaluate information about logistics companies from around the country to determine its Top 100. The honor is awarded based on criteria such as operational excellence, innovation, network of customer relationships, and quality of services.

“As a young company it is very rewarding to be named to the Top 100 list because it shows we are providing the service our customers need and expect,” says Syfan Logistics CEO Jim Syfan. “It’s a testament to our people, our culture, and our ability to deliver results for our customers. This serves as reaffirmation of our customer-first philosophy and recognition of our growth.”

Inbound Logistics is the leading trade magazine targeted toward business logistics and supply chain managers.

“When Inbound Logistics editors select the Top 100 3PL providers, they carefully analyze how a logistics solutions provider enables scalability for its customers,” Inbound Logistics Editor Felecia Stratton says. “3PLs today must produce direct savings for shippers by optimizing the transport network, reducing inventory-to-sales ratios, or advancing the order-to-cash cycle. But it’s just as important for a logistics partner to act as a business change agent, driving their customers’ ability to match demand for their products more closely to supply, aligning enterprise operational performance to the larger economic trend. That is what Syfan Logistics does, and why IL editors have selected Syfan Logistics as a 2014 Top 100 3PL.”

Our FMS program achieves efficiency with a number of automated system strategies including bid procurement, mode optimization and load execution.

Employee Spotlight

Many of our team members got in the

Halloween spirit last fall by dressing up. As you

can see, we have some creative people. Bruce

Carlton, who dressed up as a wolf, was selected

the winner in a company-wide vote. He received

a $75 gift card. Genesis Segovia (Witch Tree)

placed second. Tanya Sullens (Exorcist) and Paige

Bennett (Mary Poppins) tied for third.

COMPANY GROWTH LEADS TO THREE KEY HIRESThe continued growth track at Syfan Logistics has led to the addition of three key positions that will help us keep pace while ensuring the highest level of technology and quality personnel.

Please join us in welcoming: • Human Resources Manager Dan Bacus

• IT Analyst Diana Bullington

• Trainer Levi Nix.

“We are excited to have Dan, Diana and Levi join our team,” said President Greg Syfan. “They are certainly representative of the quality that exists throughout our team, which has grown to nearly 150 top professionals over the past three years.”

As Human Resources Manager, Dan Bacus supports the company’s most important asset – our team members. He helps select, develop and retain Syfan employees while assisting with ongoing organizational planning.

Bacus has 24 years of experience in HR and organizational development, having worked in the health care

field for most of his career. A Michigan native, he has three sons: Tyler, 22, Justin, 18, and Kyle, 15. Away from work, Bacus enjoys playing guitar and attending Journey Church where he is involved in the ministry.

Diana Bullington is Syfan’s lead contact with our technology partner McLeod Software. She provides daily IT support for employees. Bullington has a lot of experience in the logistics industry, having worked with Turbo Logistics, then OHL and XPO.

The Arkansas native has lived in Georgia since 1985. She enjoys

getting outdoors -- whether hiking, water skiing or snow skiing. She also likes sewing, quilting and is an avid reader.

In his role as a Trainer, Levi Nix works with new employees as they get up to speed on Syfan’s systems and procedures. A former teacher with Hall County Schools, he works individually and with groups of new employees to get them familiar with our operations and procedures. He also remains a resource for Syfan employees requiring additional

training and professional growth.

Nix is a White County native. He and his wife, Ashley, have two boys, Silas and Samuel, and are expecting a third son in March. He is active at Wahoo Baptist Church, severing as the children’s pastor.

Syfan Supports Toys for Tots

Once again this holiday season, Syfan Logistics and Turbo Truck Center collected presents for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots. We collected 348 gifts for area children to enjoy at Christmas, so we were able to give each child two toys and one stocking stuffer. We are proud of our team for taking part in the Toys for Tots program.
