Ok here is what should be a practice schedule for beginners to intermediate guitar players. 1. Tune the instrument 2. Wa rm up mechanically. Play three notes per string in these common combinations : (inde!1"middle!2"ring!#"pinky!$% so the permutations are (1"2"#%"(1"2"$%"(1"#"$%"(2"#"$%.Where each finger spans one fret from inde to pinky. These are &OT musical as you play them on e'ery string across the fretboard. Then try $ notes a string with (1"2"#"$%.Play them e'enly and slowly either alternate pick or economy pick"gradually picking up tempo. #. Take &) scale and warm up by playing the scale tones ** o'er the fretboard. This is easier done by +,-& your own fretboard diagra m for that scale.Preferably start with the ma/or scale.0o not o'erestimate yourself" - ha'e heard teac hers fumble badly with this.0o this deliberately playing all the inter'als #rds"$ths etc. $.*earn the scale on e'er y single string.Then play it in a combination o f 2 strings (consecuti'e and with space between the strings%"to generate diads ( 2 note sounds%.tend this to # notes (triads% and then chords.rpeggiate some notes to create some fluid sounds across the fretboard. 3.4-& e'ery note you pla y. - ts imperati'e you burn the sound of the fretboard into your conscious mind.This way you can de'elop relati'e pitch without any added ependiture. 5.&ow start forming short musical phrases from the scale you ha'e /ust analy6ed.Play purely on the scale tones and use inter'als to generate melodies and small motifs.Play these notes singing them as you go and insert some small chordal patterns from the fretboard diagram. +ake sure that these little chords follow the melody you are playing. -f they are from that fretboard diagram they will always be correct. -ts up to you to make them musical. 4oon you will be playing single notes and chords together to support the idea in your head. 7.0edicate a small portion of your practice time to playing anything"switch your analytical mind O88. 9amble through mechanical combinations and arbit melodies"/ump ideas and 0O e'erything you can imagine.
