For the � rst time in school history, Interlake is home to the state champions of girls soccer.
Kirk Tavener’s Saints held o� Cedarcrest 1-0 at Shoreline Stadium in the 2A state championship game on Saturday behind a second half goal o� a corner kick and a defense that did not allow a goal in the playo� s.
“I don’t think that part of it has sunk in yet,”
Tavener said of the scoreless stretch for his defense. “� at was part of the goal. Catie and the defense didn’t want that [allowing a goal] to happen.”
Goalkeeper Catie Getzendaner, along with defend-ers Desiree Domini, Courtney Fedor, Tara Ghas-semikia and Sarah Williams became only the third defensive group since 1997 (and second since the tournament expanded to four rounds in 2001) to keep the scoreboard stuck on zero on the route to a 2A tournament championship.
Bellevue’s highly anticipated showdown with Lakes ended with the same old song and dance, as the Wolverines picked-up a 35-14 victory.Senior quarterback Tyler Hasty scored four rushing touchdowns to lead the Bellevue o� ense.
Interlake saw its season come to an end in a 55-28 loss to Lynden.Running back Jordan Todd tallied 359 yards to � nish with 2,681, the most in state history.
