Color

E ach year “Pantone” Paint Company establishes a color of the year. ey decide a season’s color based on the season’s runway looks at New York Fashion week. e recently announced color of the year for 2014 is Dazzling Blue, a peppy shade of

cobalt that is currently the color of Facebook (although not the exact color, quite similar to the site’s signature color) and Citibank’s bike-sharing program. Over 17% of designers showed the blue hue in their spring 2014 fashions for women. Previous year’s colors chosen include Turquoise in 2010, Honeysuckle in 2011, Tangerine Tango in 2012 and Emerald in 2013.

Blue is the color of constancy and truth. It is the color of the sky. e true blue of the daylight sky is associated with the continuity of yet another day, dependable and consoling.

Studies show that blue is consistently America’s favorite color, and designers from all over the world integrate blue throughout their designs. In this wired age of the digital revolution and technology, it is understandable why people want to retreat into a place of quite blue calm.

Charitable EndeavorsRegatta for the Cure Cary was honored to once again be one of the

designers asked to hand-decorate a paddle as

an auction item for the American Breast Cancer

Society’s 2013 “Regatta for the Cure” that was

held at Lake Las Vegas on October 5, 2013.

We raise funds for a great cause and the project

million dollar pent house. Guests showed up

in full Gatsby apparel where they were wined

and dined while listening to the live music of

Frankie Moreno (currently headlining at the

Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas) along with

Dj Baby Chino. Six poker tables were in full

action helping raise money for the cause. For

Place) and Cary’s panel-mates consisted of Ivan Sher (Prudential Shapiro and Sher), Gavin Ernstone (Simply Vegas) and Zar Zanganeh (Luxe Estate Collection). It was a very well attended and informative event which educated audience members on the current state of the luxury residential market in Las Vegas, Nevada.”

W e were fortunate enough over the past year to attend various trade shows here in Las Vegas as well as in New York City and High Point, North Carolina. is

provides us a good perspective enabling us to see the world of design from the East coast view as well as the West coast point-of-view. is is so helpful to me in being able to assist our clients who hail from various parts of the country in understanding and interpreting their design needs.

Overall trends I took note of in all the markets is the continuing use of reclaimed materials, eco-friendly products, a sophisticated– rustic blending for today’s more casual lifestyles no matter where you live. “Ethnic” inuences are still prevalent as well; Ikat patterns, paisley prints,

especially bold ones were seen in many showrooms. Retro pieces peppered many of the showroom oors from mid-century inspired furniture to groovy forms from the 1970’s. Lucite has made a wonderful resurgence.

While in New York City, we toured the latest Kips Bay Showcase Home, a premier platform for designer’s, invited to participate, to show their skills. Avant garde room settings using fresh tones from turquoise to teal, and lots of black on white created a retro-modern vibe. A pop of raspberry and other sherbet tones made for a chic palette. Other designer’s favored “greige” and cream colors, staples for so many of us, blending stronger color accents into their spaces.

I have also seen a great deal of pearlized or metallic nishes oered, mixing various metals from silver and gold to bronze to the “champagne” tones in between. We no longer want or need to stick with one metal color. I enjoy using a good mix of warmer and cooler metal tones for a more interesting eect. I have utilized this blending of metallics on many wall nishes, collaborating with my painters, as I love how they catch the light at dierent times of the day and evening. Pearlized nishes are also popular on fabrics and leathers, adding iridescence to the items they

cover. For a just completed project, four barrel chairs were covered in a pearlized and embossed faux leather and placed around a contemporary white marble dining table. e chandelier is completely comprised of capiz shells making for a fresh and sophisticated space, with a glowing shimmer.

Interestingly, as we become more of a global society, I’ve noticed fewer dierences in design aesthetics from coast to coast; while traditional and classic furnishings may be more popular on the east coast, these perennials are now being colored in more contemporary ways.
