ESCUELA SUPERIOR DE MÚSICA REINA SOFÍA

The Reina Sofía School of Music is an institution devoted to training performers of

great excellence while at the same time offering its students all necessary means for

attaining a high level of musical specialisation. This kind of training requires

personalized attention. The School provides this through individualised study plans

for each student, which guarantee that they will receive the specific teaching they

need and through close contact with the professors, all of whom are eminent

performers and teachers.

The education offered by the School gives students a comprehensive training so that

music may be placed within its historical and ideological context and also be related

to other artistic and cultural forms of expression. Furthermore, the Reina Sofía

School of Music understands that the whole process of professional training is

closely linked to actual artistic activity and, as such, serves as preparation for the

future professional life of the students. With this aim in mind, every year the School

organises more than two hundred concerts of all possible types: recitals, chamber

music, orchestral concerts. Taking part in these concerts are those students who, in

the opinion of their teachers, are sufficiently prepared to perform in front of the

public.The importance of chamber music within the teaching programme of the

School has resulted in the creation of a new independent institution: The

International Institute of Chamber Music of Madrid where students of the School

receive education in this speciality.

The Reina Sofía School of Music is now beginning the process of student

selection to fill the class vacancies for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn,

Violin, Viola, Violoncello, Double Bass, Voice and Piano.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

1. APPLICANTSAnyone holding a university qualification or engaged in final year studies for one ofthe respective instruments may apply for admission as a student to the Reina SofíaSchool of Music. In the case of flute, oboe, bassoon, horn, violin and viola the student age limit is 27 on the date of the audition, and 26 for clarinet, violoncello,double bass and piano students. Applicants for voice shall not be older than 32 on thedate of the audition.

2. DOCUMENTATIONThe applicants must submit the following documentation for the studies of violin,viola, violoncello, double bass, oboe, horn, piano and voice:

A. An application made on the enclosed form.B. Curriculum vitae, maximun 15 lines, indicating studies, professional activi-

ties, publications, prizes obtained and knowledge of languages.C. Certification of all course marks or grades.D. Four ID-size photographs.E. Repertoire to be performed in the audition specifying composer, name of

works, movements, length, as well as tonality and opus number, if applicable.F. Photocopy of passport or national identity card.G. A DVD with a recent recording of the candidates (not mandatory).

NOTE: This modality is not mandatory but it is recommended for those studets whohave to come from far away to attend the audition.

Important: Incomplete applications or those submitted after the deadline willnot be considered.The enrollment application form must be completed in block letters.

3. APPLICATION DEADLINE AND ADDRESSApplications and the corresponding documentation must be personally delivered orsent by registered mail to the following address:

4. STUDENT SELECTION

Selection will based on:

A. Examination of the academic transcript by the Selection Committee, inclu-

ding a review of the DVD’S, if applicable.

B. An audition.

- For voice auditions:

-1st day: Preselection

-2nd day: Theory and solfège exams to pre-selected students.

Final Selection.

6. AUDITION REPERTOIRES

FLUTE

Auditioning candidates must perform a programme to be played to include:

- Two movements (fast-slow) from a concerto (from memory)

- Two movements from a baroque sonata

- A movement from a romantic sonata or a short complete romantic piece

- A short contemporary piece

- Two orchestral fragments: flute solo in Maurice Ravel's Daphnis and Chloë

and Ludwig van Beethoven's Overture Leonora No. 3

The Jury may select fragments of this repertory

HORNFor horn auditions, the repertoire will consist of:

- A Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart horn concerto, chosen from KV 417, 447 or 495, to be played from memory.

- A Richard Strauss horn concerto: either Nº 1 in E Flat Major op. 11 or Nº2 in E Flat Major.

- One work to be selected from the 20th century repertoire.

VIOLIN (Professor Zakhar Bron)During the audition, applicants must submit a mandatory programme to include:

- A freely selected scale.- Two studies, of different kinds, to be chosen from the following composers:

VIOLAFor viola auditions, applicants will be expected to play two pieces, preferably frommemory, to be chosen from:

- Johann Sebastian Bach: Prelude and a freely selected movement of any of suites for violoncello transcripted for viola.

- The candidate’s chosen work- Scales

Applicants must provide the piano scores for the pieces to be played.

VIOLONCELLOFor violoncello auditions, applicants must play from memory the followig repertoire:

- Either first movement or second and third movements of a concerto.- Prelude of one of Johann Sebastian Bach suites for solo cello.- A study by David Popper or one of Alfredo Piatti’s capricci.- A cantabile piece.

Applicants must provide the piano scores for the pieces to be played.

DOUBLE BASSApplicants must submit an obligatory audition programme to include:

- First movement and cadenza of K. D. Dittersdorf Concerto in E major- A free choice work different in style from those herein indicated- Recitative of L. v. Beethoven Ninth Symphony in D minor, opus 125- First movement of W. A. Mozart Symphony No. 40 in G minor, KV 550

VOICEFor voice auditions, applicants will be expected to perform a compulsory program-me which will consist of:

- An aria from an oratorio, a cantata or a motet.- Three opera arias of own choice. All arias preceded by a recitative; this will

also be required in the audition.- Three songs. The first a Lied to be chosen from the German repertoire; the

second and third to be freely chosen from the Italian, French and Spanishrepertoires.*

* NOTES: 1. Applicants must sing from memory, without scores, except for the oratorio.

2. Applicants must provide for the audition perfectly legible piano scores, as appropriate.

PIANOFor piano auditions, applicants must play from memory, without scores, a program-me consisting of:

- One classical sonata to be chosen from Clementi, Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven,or a series of variations (with no repetitions).

- A virtuoso piece (five minutes maximum).- A romantic work (of medium length).

7. ENROLLMENT FEES AND SCHOLARSHIPS

To reserve their place, accepted candidates must pay the sum of 450 € to the

Reina Sofía School of Music.

Tuition fees for the 2009-2010 Academic Year are 18,335 € which must be paid priorto September 30th, 2009.

There are three types of general scholarships:

- Tuition Fee Scholarship: covers the total or partial amount of the tuition fee.

- Instrument Scholarship: allows the enrolled student to use quality musical

instruments during the academic year.

- Residence Scholarship: Assists the student with lodging and full pension

expeditures during the academic year.

These scholarships are funded by the Albéniz Foundation and by various public

and private institutions dedicated to aiding training and artistic development. The

scholarships are awarded by the Scholarships’ Commission of the Albéniz

Foundation which is composed of representatives of the Foundation, of the Reina

Sofía School of Music and of the sponsors. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of

the audition results and the applicant’s financial circumstances as reflected in the

documents submitted for that porpuse.

Together with the general documentation required for the application, those wishing

to apply for any of the above scholarships must also submit the following:

A. Attested photocopy of the applicant’s Income Tax Reurn for the immediately

preceding fiscal year as well as for each member of the family unit to which

applicant belongs (even if no longer under ist guardianship)

B. An attested photocopy of the Property Tax Return for the immediately

preceding fiscal year or a sworn statement of exemption from such Tax.

JACQUES ZOON

FLUTE

Jacques Zoon was distinguished with the Jury’s Special Prize of the Jean-Pierre

Rampal Competition in Paris. Zoon was born in 1961 and studied at the Sweelinck

Conservatory in Amsterdam with Koos Verheul and Harris Starreveld and later with

Geoffrey Gilbert in Canada. He has been solo player with the Amsterdam

Philharmonic Orchestra, in The Hague, the Concertgebouw, Boston Symphony, Berlin

Philharmonic and, at present, he is soloist with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and the

Bologna Mozart Orchestra both under the baton of Claudio Abbado. He has been solo

performer in concertos by Mozart, Joliver, Martin, Gubaidulina, Bernstein, Ligeti and

Boulez with conductors such as Abbado, Ozawa, Haitink and Boulez.

Jacques Zoon has played chamber music with violoncellist Iseut Chuat and as solo

player in double concertos that composers Bernhard Heiden and Paul Desenne wrote

for him. His vocation for chamber music took him to collaborate with ensembles such

as Indomeno, Viotta, Gaudier, Ludwig Trio as well as the Orlando and Amati Quartets,

among others. The Boston Globe named him “Musician of the Year” in 1988. He has

made many successful recordings. He has an interest in the technical development of

the instrument, and, as a teacher, he has taught at the Indiana and Boston Universities

and at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule in Berlin. At present he is professor at the Geneva

Conservatory.

Starting with the 2006-2007 academic year, Jacques Zoon is invited artist of the Wind

Department of the International Institute of Chamber Music of Madrid and since the

HANSJÖRG SCHELLENBERGER

OBOE

Hansjörg Schellenberger won first prize at the German Jugend Musiziert Competition,

which led to a scholarship enabling him to further his education at Interlochen

(Michigan, United States). He continued his studies in Munich with Manfred Clement

and attended master classes with Heinz Holliger. During this period he took part in

numerous concerts, many of them dedicated to contemporary music, and obtained first

prizes in several international competitions; among them, the ARD in Munich.

In the seventies he was soloist of the Cologne Radio Orchestra and from 1980-2001

of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Between 1980 and 2001 he has played under

conductors such as Carlo Maria Giulini, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti and Claudio

Abbado, among others. He has dedicated a great part of his artistic activity to

chamber music with groups such as the Wind Ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic

and the Vienna-Berlin Ensemble. In 1991 Shellenberger founded the Berliner-

Hadyn-Konzerte cycle, which he continues to conduct himself. He has recorded

Beethoven’s and Mozart’s Piano and Wind Quintets and Poulanc’s Trio for piano,

oboe and bassoon with J. Levine and M. Turkovik. Between 1981 and 1991 he

taught at the Berlin Music Academy. He has also been Guest Professor at the

Chigiana Academy in Siena, Italy.

Since the 2000-2001 academic year Hansjörg Schellenberger is Head Professor of

the Oboe Chair, sponsored by Repsol YPF, at the Reina Sofía School of Music.

He is at present Profesor/Department Head, Wind Quintets, of the International

Institute of Chamber Music of Madrid.

MICHEL ARRIGNON

CLARINET

Michel Arrignon entered the Paris Conservatory at the age of sixteen, having been

awarded the First Prize for Clarinet and Chamber Music at age eighteen. Following

his advanced chamber music studies, he left Paris to study in the United States. He was

awarded Second Place in the Geneva International Music Competition at age twenty-

four. Having felt especially drawn to 20th-century music, he played in ensembles such

as Musique Vivante and 2e2m. That same year, he was appointed Professor at the

Orleans Conservatory. Hired by Pierre Boulez at the time of the creation of the

Intercontemporary Ensemble, he played the twentieth century repertoire and recorded

many records under his baton. During that time, he adapted many pieces for the

clarinet, including Sequenza VIII by Luciano Berio, Latitudes by Philipp Fénelon,

Piéce pour clarinet et trombone by Gérard Grisey and Donnerstag au Licht by

Karlheinz Stockhausen…

Following seven years in the Intercontemporary Ensemble, he entered the French

National Orchestra of the Paris Opera as a clarinet soloist. Following his long years of

experience in the National Orchestra, playing with the most well-known musicians, he

took part in the Maurice Bourgeu Woodwind Ensemble, having also created the

Quatuor Olivier Messiaen. Michel Arrignon has been a Professor of Clarinet at the

Paris Conservatory since 1989. He has devoted himself to both teaching and to a career

as an international soloist, dividing his time among concerts, master classes and serving

on international competition juries. He has several well-known recordings to his credit.

Since the 2008-2009 academic year, Michel Arrignon is Head Professor of the

Clarinet Chair of the Reina Sofía School of Music.

KLAUS THUNEMANN

BASSOON

Klaus Thunemann was born in Magdeburg (Germany). He began by studying piano

but and when he was eighteen yearsold he changed to bassoon. He studied in West

Berlin gaining his artistic diploma in 1960. From 1962 to 1978 he was principal

bassoonist with the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra (NDR). In 1965 at the

Radio Germany Competition (ARD) in Munich he was the only winner in the bassoon

category. As a solo player he has performed with numerous orchestras and has worked

with the Villa Musica Ensemble in Germany.

For twenty years he has collaborated with bassoonist Heinz Holliger and is guest artist

in important European festivals. Klaus Thunemann has given master classes in the

U.S.A., Japan, Sweden, Austria and in other countries. He is professor at the Berlin

Musikhochschule Hanns Eisler.

Since the 2008-2009 academic year, Klaus Thunemann is Head Professor of the

Bassoon Chair of the Reina Sofía School of Music. At present, he is also Professor of

the Wind Department of the International Institute of Chamber Music of Madrid.

RADOVAN VLATKOVIC HORN

Radovan Vlatkovic was born in Zagreb (Croatia). His first studies were in that city,

continuing his musical education at the Academy of Music of Detmold (Germany)

where he graduated as soloist.

In 1979 he won first prize at the Ancona International Competition and in 1983 at the

ARD in Munich. These prizes were a passport to numerous music festivals in Europe,

the United States, Asia and Australia. Between 1982 and 1990 he was first horn

player of the Berlin Radio Orchestra, and since then he has devoted himself entirely

to solo playing and teaching. Between 1992 and 1998 was professor of horn in the

Stuttgart Musikhochschule and since then he has taught at the Mozarteum in

Salzburg. As soloist he has performed with orchestras such as the Berlin and the

Bavarian Radios, the BBC in London, the English Chamber, the Academy of

St. Martin if the Fields, the Camerata Academica of the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the

Yomiuri Orchestra, as well as with the Tokyo and the NHK Orchestras. As chamber

music performer he has played with Vladimir Ashkenazy, Heinz Holliger, Gidon

Kremer, Aurèle Nicolet and András Schiff, among others, and has made recordings

with them.

Since the 2000-2001 academic year, Radovan Vlatkovic is Head Professor of the

“la Caixa” Horn Chair of the Reina Sofía School of Music. At present, he is also

Professor of the Wind Department of the International Institute of Chamber Music of

Madrid.

ZAKHAR BRON

VIOLIN

Zakhar Bron was born in Uralks (Kazakhstan, Russia). He studied at the Stoliarsky

School of Music in Odessa and at the Gnessin School of Music with Boris Goldstein.

He continued his musical education with Professor David Oistrakh at the

Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow where he stayed on (1971-1974) as Assistant

Professor of the Violin Chair. Zakhar Bron has won first prizes in competitions in

Belgium, Poland and Russia.

Since being very young he had an extensive and important teaching career. Special

mention deserves his teaching at the Novosibirsk Conservatory (Russia), as well as

at the Lübeck School of Music, Cologne School of Music (Germany), Royal

Academy of London, and at the Rotterdam and Tokyo Conservatories. He has also

given many master classes and has been a jury member of competitions in several

countries.

Among his most internationally celebrated students are Daishin Kashimoto, Vadim

Repin and Maxim Venguerov who have won numerous prizes in different

competitions.

Since the inauguration in 1991 of the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid Zakhar

Bron is Head Professor of the Violin Chair, sponsored by Telefónica.

“He is a top class violinist with an extensive pallete of sound, beautiful technique and fas-

cinating legato cantabile; a surprisingly honest and mature musician…” (STRAD).

Starting with the 2007-2008 academic year, Marco Rizzi is Head of the Violin Chair of

the Reina Sofía School of Music. Prizewinner in three of the most prestigious violin com-

petitions: Moscow Tchaikovsky, Brussels Queen Elizabeth and the Indianapolis Violin

Competition, Marco Rizzi is highly respected for the quality, forcefulness and deepness

of his performances. Pupil of G. Magnani, S. Accardo and W. Lieberman, obtained in

1991 the Europäischen Musikförderpreis with the endorsement of Claudio Abbado.

He is regularly invited to the most prestigious halls such as the Scala in Milan, Gaveau

and Pleyel Halls in Paris, Lincoln Center in New York, Grand Hall at Moscow’s

Conservatory, Musikhalle in Hamburg, Tivoli in Copenhagen, Concertgebouw in

Amsterdam, Konzerthaus in Berlin. He has performed with conductors such as R.

Chailly, H. Vonk, A. Ceccato, V. Jurowski, P. Eötvös and orchestras such as Dresden

Staatskapelle, Indianapolis Symphony, Liverpool Philharmonic, Concerts Lamoreux,

Hong Kong Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Madrid RTVE Symphony, Scottish

BBC, Nederland’s Philharmonic, and many others. Marco Rizzi each year enriches his

repertory with a new. He has a vivid interest for less-known repertory pieces: B. Walter’s

DIEMUT POPPEN

VIOLA

Born in Münster (Germany), Diemut Poppen began her violin lessons when she was

seven years old, making her public debut two years later. Her viola attraction began when

she was very young through chamber music and, at 17 she decided to make viola her

main instrument. Her teachers were all prestigious personalities in the world of music

such as Kashkashian, Giuranna, Bashmet, Schlichtig, Janzer and the Amadeus Quartet.

Since very young she attended the most important musical centers worldwide under

the tutorships of Brüggen, Holliger and Abbado - with whom she made her debut at

Carnegie Hall - and participated in chamber music sessions that were very dear to

her. She is regularly invited by great musicians to participate in festivals, among

them: Schiff (Mondsee, Salzburg), Abbado (Berliner Begegnungen), Kremer

(Lockenhaus), Helmerson (Korsholm), Vogt (Heimbach) and Kavakos (Athens).

Diemut Poppen is co-founder of the European Chamber Orchestra and was distin-

guished with the European Music Prize. She succeeded Nobuko Imai in her position

at the Detmold School of Music. She has been a jury of several international com-

petitions such as Munich ARD; is director of the Chamber Music Summer Academy

in Turingen; has founded the Osnabruck Chamber Music Series and gives master

classes in institutions such as Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Escuela Superior de

Música Reina Sofía in Madrid. Diemut Poppen has recorded for different labels such

as Deutsche Grammophon, Live Classics, Cappricio, Ondine, Ars Musici, Tudor and

EMI. Since 2004 her wide repertory includes the new Mijail Pletnev and Kancheli

Styx concertos for viola and orchestra. Since the 2005-2006 academic year, Dietmut

Poppen is Professor of the Viola Chair of the Reina Sofía School of Music, sponsored

NATALIA SHAKHOVSKAYA

VIOLONCELLO

Natalia Shakhovskaya was born in Moscow (Russia). She studied at the Gnessin

School of Music, and later at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow under

S. Kosolupov. Her final studies were with Mstislav Rostropovich at that

Conservatory. She has won the most important performance competitions, both

Russian and international. In 1957 she was awarded the Gold Medal at the

International Festival for Young Moscow Students and in 1963 she won first prize at

the Tchaikovsky Competition.

Her artistic career includes recitals and collaborations with the most outstanding

orchestras and conductors the world over. She premiered works of several

contemporary Russian composers and has likewise carried out an important career as

teacher and performer, giving master classes in festivals. Shakhovskaya has been

member of the jury in international performance competitions in Germany, France,

the Czeck Republic, Russia and South Africa. Between 1962 and 1995 she taught

at Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Conservatory where she was Head Professor of the

Violoncello Chair and Director of the Violoncello and Double Bass Departaments.

Starting with the 2001-2002 academic year she returned to her teaching activity in

such Conservatory as Professor of Violoncello. Madame Shakhovskaya may be

credited with more than forty students who have won prizes in international

competitions.

Since the 2000-2001 academic year Natalia Shakhovskaya is Head Professor of the

Violoncello Chair, sponsored by Ferrovial, at the Reina Sofía School of Music.

DUNCAN MCTIER

DOUBLE BASS

Since winning the 1982 Isle of Man International Double Bass Competition, Duncan

McTier has established a reputation as one of the world’s foremost double bass soloists

and teachers. His performances in major concert halls and at festivals such as Bath and

Kuhmo have inspired a host of superlatives from critics. Duncan McTier has appeared

as soloist in more than twenty countries, with many leading orchestras, including the

Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, English and

Scottish Chamber Orchestras, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Concertgebouw and

Lausanne Chamber Orchestras. He has made more than fifty solo recordings for radio,

television and record companies and his Tarantella CD, with pianist Kathron Sturrock,

was described in The Strad as containing “some of the most refined bass playing you

are ever likely to hear”. Two more CDs, Capriccio and Sonata, have since been relea-

sed to much critical acclaim. Born in Stourbridge, Worcestershire, Duncan McTier

obtained a degree in mathematics at Bristol University before joining the BBC

Symphony Orchestra. After seven years as principal bass of the Netherlands Chamber

Orchestra, he returned to England to concentrate on a career as soloist, chamber musi-

cian and teacher. Composers who have written works especially for him include Sir

Peter Maxwell Davies, Robin Holloway, John Casken, John Hawkins and Gavin

Bryars. Duncan McTier is Professor of Double Bass at the Royal Academy of Music in

London and at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in Winterthur. He gives master-

classes all over the world and holds a summer course at the Academie de Musique in

Sion, Switzerland. Honours awarded him include Honorary Membership of the Royal

Academy of Music and Fellowship of the Royal Northern College of Music. He is a

member of the Nash Ensemble and the Fibonacci Sequence. Since the 2007-2008 aca-

demic year, Duncan McTier is Head Professor of the Double Bass Chair of the Reina

TOM KRAUSE

VOICE

Born in Helsinki (Finland), Tom Krause began his vocal studies at the school of music

in Vienna. After his first performances with the Deutsche Oper of Berlin he was

appointed Kammersänger of the Hamburg State Opera. In 1963 he sang Britten´s War

Requiem, conducted by the composer, who recommended him for a première of this

work in the USA. He made his debut in 1967 at the Metropolitan Opera as Count

Almaviva (The Marriage of Figaro) and in 1968, in Salzburg, as Don Giovanni with

Herbert von Karajan. He has sung in venues throughout the world, such as Brussels

Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, Vienna State Opera House, Milan Scala, Teatro Colón

in Buenos Aires and the opera houses in San Francisco, Munich, Chicago, Houston

and Paris; and has taken part in numeous festivals (Bayreuth, Glyndebourne,

Tanglewood, Edinburgh, Prague and Savonlinna). In 2001 he appeared at the Paris

Théâtre de la Bastille in Parsifal and in 2002 in the role of Moses in Moses und Aaron

at the Massimo Theatre, Palermo. He has given performances with the most important

orchestras and conductors such as Karajan, Solti, Bernstein, Ozawa, Abbado, Mehta,

Giulini and Maazel. His extensive discography has led to the award of various prizes:

Edison, Deutsche Schallplatten and English Gramophone. He has given master

classes at the Curtis Institute and at the Philadelphia Academy of Vocal Arts, among

others. From 1994 to 2001 he was professor at the Hamburg Conservatoire of Music

(Germany) and is a frequent member of the jury at international singing competitions.

In June 2003 was distinguished as Doctor Honoris Causa of Music by the Helsinki

University. Since the 2002-2003 academic year Tom Krause is Head Professor of the

«Alfredo Kraus» Chair of Voice sponsored by the Fundación Ramón Areces, at the

Reina Sofía School of Music.

DIMITRI BASHKIROV

PIANO

Dimitri Bashkirov was born in Tiflis, Georgia. He started his studies with his family

in that city, continuing his education later with Anastasia Wirsaladze at the Tiflis

Conservatory and with Alexander Goldenweiser at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in

Moscow. In 1955 he won the first prize at the Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud

Piano Competition, in Paris.

Since then he has performed with numerous European and United States of America

orchestras, among them the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony

Orchestra, the Paris Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic and the Israel Philharmonic.

He has also appeared with conductors such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Daniel

Barenboim, Kurt Masur, Zubin Mehta and Wolfgang Sawallisch, among others. He

has played chamber music with the violinist Igor Bezrodny and the cellist Mikhail

Komnitzer. In 1957 he started his extensive teaching career at the Tchaikovsky

Conservatory in Moscow and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de

Paris, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, and at the

Encuentro de Música y Academia in Santander. He has published several studies in

Sovetskaya Muzïka.

GALINA EGUIAZAROVA

PIANO

Galina Eguizarova was born in Russia. She studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory

in Moscow with Alexander Goldenweiser. Since 1961 her career has been

exclusively dedicated to teaching, and she has taught at that musical institution.

She has collaborated as Assistant Professor with artists such as Tatiana Nicolaeva and

Dimitri Bashkirov. A great many number of pianists who today are teaching and

playing at the main musical institutions throughout the world, as well as winners of

national and international competitions, have been her pupils. Among her most

celebrated students are Maria Stembolskaya, Radu Lupu and Arcadi Volodos, who

studied under her tutorship for several years. Galina Eguiazarova has been honoured

by the Russian Ministry of Culture for her teaching activities.

Since the 1993-1994 academic year Galina Eguiazarova has been Assistant Professor

of Dimitri Bashkirov, Head Professor of the Piano Chair at the Reina Sofía School of

Music, sponsored by the Banco Santander Foundation, and since the 2000-2001

academic year she heads her own piano teaching activities at that School.
