When choosing interior doors, you should first consider what design best fits the period or style of home you’re building or renovating.

How important is consistency? Is it important that the inside look ties in with the impression of the building from the outside? Consider the ‘feel’ you want – such as whether you want glass to give a more open feel between rooms. Then look at the type of timber you’re using and whether you are going to paint or stain the wood.

sturdy cONstructiONwanaka interior doors are made 38mm thick, to add strength to the door and a weighty, solid feel. as with our exterior doors, we use mortise and tennon joining; a technique that dates back thousands of years and is still widely regarded as one of the strongest wood-joining joints achievable.

desigNed tO exPANd ANd cONtrActBecause wood is a natural material it is very reactive to changes in temperatures and humidity. again, as with our exterior doors, we place expandable rubber grommets where the panel meets the door to allow panels to move without cracking or harming the door. our doors come pre-sealed, top and bottom.

timber Needs tO be seAsONed cOrrectlyat Parkwood we put all timber – for exterior and interior doors – through a special drying process that works to prevent movement within the timber caused by moisture. our dried timber then goes through a moisture reading machine that double-checks the moisture percentage before it is processed further.

chOOse timber tyPeFor sheltered exterior doors we recommend using cedar. other timbers such as american white oak, Kauri, Tasmanian oak and Pine would need to be placed in a more sheltered situation.

rimu is not an exterior timber because of the risk ofmovement when exposed to adverse conditions, therefore should only be used for interior situations.
