Since there were slight differences in the structure compared to the project on which the initial suggestions were

made, and that you were planning to introduce some more changes that influence the energy pattern of the house,

I will start this part of analysis with structural issues.

Regarding the basic issue of increasing energy-accumulating capacities and changing the plot facing, the wire fence

that marks the edge runs in a straight line, correcting the downstream-looking shape of the plot, but I would still advise

to mark the line with plants that are not higher than the fence, but pose as a visible edge of the plot. It can be done by

some low-growing hedge, by some lying dense flowering plants, or a less dense herbal-floral border, where you can

combine sage, basil, thyme and other herbs with some flowering plants. The last version is the least visually intrusive,

since it can look like a transition belt from the wild plants outside the fence to the more organized garden and lawn in-

side the fence. Some visual ideas of different versions of borders:

In the interior, at the upper floor, most of the recommendations given in the first part of analisys were taken ino ac-

count, the only unsolved question was the railing at the outer edge of the terrace that should stop the energy from

“falling” from the edge. The modell the husband has described on the occasion when we met is, I believe, acceptab-

le, and in tune with the “riverside” theme and is not blocking the view from thehouse. Still, I`m afraid that the light rai-

ling will not help to retain qi within the house. Therefore it would be advisable to have some low planters at the edge

of terrace, planted with low-growing plants, to establish at least a low embankment-form.

There is one solution that would not require planters or pots, but needs time. With some kind of climbing plant (vine,

wild vine or something else to your liking), you could lead one shoot to grow along the outer edge of tthe terrace, wh-

ile the rest of it you could lead upwards to grow a light pergola above the terrace (which you do not use much, as you

said, because of the scorching sun) It would look something like this:

And, just to aid imagination, here are two nice, light pergola constructions that would not block the view, while still

providing protection from the sun

On the lower level, the internal structure of the house was changed in regard to the original plan, since instead of

two studies you have one. This alteration does not affect the qi movement patterns within the building. But the alte-

ration you are planning to introduce does change these patterns. By opening the corridor to full length of the apart-

ment, the southwestern part of house will be connected to the overall movement, and the entrance door of the lo-

wer level will be also activated. Basically the energies from this direction are acceptable only in a stabilised form. If

activated, and given free access to the rest of the house, they might show their negative aspects, causing various

mishaps and accidents in- and outside the house. So I would advise against putting this lower entrance door in func-

tion. On the other hand, it is even better to have another guest bedroom below the master bedroom, than to have the

formerly planned gym and sauna there, because the guest bedroom is less “active” by its function, then a room for

excersize would be. If you want to make a more spatious bathroom to go with this room, and to get rid of the small

inattractive bath you have now, I would suggest you consider to wall up the existing door to the small bedroom, and

to open the wall on the side to the corridor. The resulting structures might be:

There might be other solutions, but it is important not to open a straight passage from the SW to the living space on

the lower floor, and to have some kind of stabilizing and dividing feature at the existing end of the corridor, as in abo-

ve drawings.

At the ground floor, of the details proposed along the longitudinal axis of the house to increase the energy-retaining

capacity of the house, the curtain at the living area glass wall and the row of ceiling lights (like a light-curtain) was

introduced. At night time, when the lights are switched on and the curtains are closed, these measures do help retain

the energy, but during the day, the energy still flows out too easily, as can be seen and felt at this photo:

While the view is truly beautiful, and should not be blocked, ad the entrance is hard to alter, the increased energy

flow occurs at the SW-NE axis, weakening the qualities of element earth within the house. This element is “respon-

sible” for fertility, it enables the seed to root and grow, it nourishes the seedlings. Your plans for a child or children

are thus in a way undermined by the weakening of the earth energy within the house, because even if “the seed ger-

minates”, it can not hold to “bear a fruit”. That is one of the main reasons I keep insisting on some kind of visible and

accented edges to the plot and to the terrace, that would be visible and would hold energy during the day as well as

the curtains do during the night.

And since those accented edges in the exterior space do not exist, you might want consider to increase the energy-

holding capacity within the house by some symbolic items. At the stairs it could be done with some plants at the bot-

tom of the stairs leading down to the living area. One erect plant on each side should be enough, but if you wish, you

can too put some planters along the parapet hiding the stairs to the lower floor. You can also put in some kind of para-

van above the stairs, something like a light, lace-like panel of bamboo or rattan, or even a free-hanging picture sus-

pended from the ceiling.

In front of the glass wall to the river you can have a few decorative bowls on metallic stands. These bowls symbolize

the accumulation, and in such capacity will help retain more energy inside the house.

At the lower floor, the loss of energy is much less characteristic, since the lower terrace does have a protective edge.

Still, the corridor is quite long and it does give some acceleration to the energy flow, so I find an excellent idea to an-

chor the time and the quality of being together (also earth energy) on the walls of the corridor by paintings that you

both like and photos of good moments spent together . There is no need for other measures regarding the loss of e-

nergy at this floor.

Trying to illustrate some ideas:

You can use plants as guardians and some light hanging or standing room dividers above the stairs. Some panel

curtains might be used instead of the plants, but then they should be placed on the top of the stairs.

As for the glass wall, I would recommend putting a few so called chinese fishbowls in front of it, but other large deco-

rative bowls would do as well. Some types of bowls that could be both decorative and suited to the purpose of symbo-

lizing accumulation capacity:

The bowls can be used as plantholders, but it is not necessary.

Here are some types of light room dividers I have found on the net to inspire your search for the rigt solution. These

do not block the view, but do attract the eye, and thus slow down and hold the energy flow. They can be made of wo-

od, wire, textile, or combination of materials, best with motifs and in colors of elements wood and fire.

Bathrooms

In the first part of analysis the bathrooms and the rooms connected with them were emphasized as important spots,

where the water and with it the energy could flow away. Of the bathrooms of the upper floor, the master bathroom

and the connected wardrobe are the most important, being connected to your bedroom, and being located in south-

east, a direction that is harmonious to both of you.

The proposed color sheme was that of elements wood and fire in both bathroom and wardobe. In bathroom the floral

motiff on the wall above the bathtube introduces enough element wood, but the fire element is poorly represented.

The wardrobe is dominated by element earth (earthen colors), the wood is represented only by the green curtain or

blind on the window.

The missing elements could be strenghtened by details. Fire, for example, by towels in colors of fire or some kind of

floorcloth and decorative details in the bathroom. Both elements can be rrepresented in the wardrobe by a small fire-

wood combination carpet in the wardrobe (maybe an orange carpet with floral designs matching the design of the

blinds)

Given the color scheme of the bathroom, the fire element can be represented by shades of violet or shades of oran-

ge, whichever you find more fitting:

Page 8: INTERIOR DETAILS FENG SHUI STUDY RIVERSIDE TOWNHOUSE · interior details feng shui study - riverside townhouse At the ground floor, of the details proposed along the longitudinal

As for floorclothes, there are many possibilities. Some of them, just to illustrate:

Additional possibility to strenghten the elements wood and fire in the southeast direction could be to group paintings

that represent nature and also some of those with accented colors of fire on the wall towards the bathroom, at the

stairs leading down to the lower level from the living area.

The guest bathroom needed earth tones, and element metal, which are actually the colors dominating this bathroom.

Still, at the first sight, this bathroom does not have the soft, pampering quality needed, so maybe some warmer-hue,

soft towels and floor cloth could add the softness to the space.

The pantry, that is also on the western direction, like the guest bathroom, is also dominated by earth tones. Since it

is an auxiliary room, the details representing wood and water on the top of the hanging cabinets are quite enough.

There is no need for interventions into this room, unless you have some other plans for it.

The planned guest bathroom at the lower floor depends on the place where it will be. If it will be in the corner of the

room, below the master bedroom, the elements in the bathroom should be wood, fire and earth:

And if the bath is going to be under the guest bedroom, along with sauna, then metal colors (grey, white, gold, silver,

etc.) complemented with some earth tones are the best choice.

The living area

The kitchen area is dominated by elements earth and metal, as it should be. With the kitchen island in front and

the columns around which it is built, the overal impression seems closed and stable enough to be treated as a

“mountain”. The window is the only item associated with openness and movement, which should be neutralized

by heavy blind in earth tones over it. I suppose that the blind is often up due to its dark color, so it would perhaps

be better to have a light-color blind in greyish or ivory tones that would blend in more with the wall and furniture,

and have an accent of earth - a picture of some warm, full kitchen or a mountain, or some still life, or decorative

moroccan style tiling - on the wall above the oven.

The dining area is a positive area, that needed no special measures, only to have accents of elements metal,

water and wood, which are actually present in this area. My personal feeling is, though, that the overall setting

is somehow too light, too mobile for a dining room, which is some kind of a center of the family. If you feel that

you do not spend enough time in the house together, that you have no time foor family, then you might consider

to choose a bit more closed or heavier furniture. It still can be light in tones, but with a more accentuated stability

attribute. The stability can be expressed in different styles:

It can be found even in some very eclectic combinations, where the component of time past is accentuated

When the need for fire element arises - usually during winter months, or in times when communication and feelings

are at some low point - you can have some arrangement of fire colors at the table.

The sitting area that is on the northeastern direction, which is disharmonious for both of you, and it holds the so

called “financial star” of the period. This star is of earthen character and as such is not harmonious with your per-

sonal energies. The color scheme of the sitting area is characterized by elements water (blue), fire (red), metal

(white and grey) and earth (brown). The only element missing in the circle is element wood, which is present th-

rough most of the year through the greenery in the environment, but not in the sitting area nor in the part with the

bookshelves.

A fireplace and a large tv on the wall of the sitting area are good ideas, both strenghtening the element fire and ac-

tivating the financial star. Still, I would advise to complement this fire with wood, since both the tv and the fireplace

will be oriented towards east and southeast, which are harmonious directions for both of you, and both carrying the

energy of element wood. Since wood is consumed by fire, the energies of these directions would be weakened by t

he tv and the fireplace. This effect ccould be compensated by adding element wood on the wall around them. The

wood can be represented by pictures on the wall dominated by colors of element wood, or depicting green landsca-

pes, trees and flowers. The other possibility is to have some decorative wallpapers (a few stripes or in some shape)

with colors or patterns representing element wood on that wall. Colors of element wood:

Some wallpapers that represent wood and are not too intrusive, just to illustrate the possibilities:

With washed-in edges and those faded colors, you could have a nice antique-looking part of the wall, in tune with

the external surrounding, and counterbalancing the straight, clean, new interior to an interesting, softening effect.

And since you still need to chose a coffe table, as it seems, the element wood could be introduced also by some

nice art-deco style table with curved, plant-like designs, like these:

The eastern corner of the living area, where the bookshelves are, should be kept active, to utilize the potentially

good effects on your carreers, but neither of you should spend much time there, since it could have adverse ef-

fects on your health. The bookshelf is a good way to represent yourselves, your interests and your professions

here, but it is not active and moving. Placing the music center here is therefore an excellent idea, since music

stands for movement, activity and inspiration. Along with it pictures representing elements water and wood can

be chosen for this part. If you like the idea of an aquarium or an indoor fountain , this part is also appropriate to

have one, surrounded by some decorative plant. If you would not have water indoors, since there is enough wa-

ter in front of the house, the water element can be also represented by decorative objects made of glass.

The master bedroom

My first impression of the bedroom was that it was dominated mostly by elements earth (brown floor) and metal

(white walls), while the elements needed at this direction were water, wood and some fire. The bed cloth could be

classified as water element with some wood, and the green blinding curtains represent the element wood, but it is

not enough, as it seems, to define the overall impression of the room. I would suggest to decorate the wall to the

wardrobe, which looks like a panel suitable to be used for decoration. You can find some wallpapers to decorate it,

or can hang one large print that would add the missing elements. I can think of all three elements needed represen-

ted on a light painting of the seaside, or perhaps on flower paintings printed on three panels in different colors. As

for seaside paintings, I have something like these in mind:

Seaside painting might be a bit “heavier” as these on the left below. The flower prints in different colors I tried to

illustrate on the right:

Beside paintings you might add other carpets to strenghten the qualities of water, wood or both, or even some fire

color to warm the room up. The carpets can be complemented by decorative pillows on the little sofa in the corner.

The Guest bedrooms

The guest bedroom under the master bedroom holds the same directional influences as the master bedroom, so

the decoration of it should also be based on elements water and wood, with some fire to worm it up. Illustrations:

The guest bedroom at the upper floor was to be decorated in tones of element metal, which is done, the only

thing missing is the stabilization of the window with some heavy curtains. These curtains could be black and white,

or in some metallic tones with wawy patterns to represent elements metal and water that are needed here.

Should you need a cabinet in this room, it should be of same light color as the bed, and could be placed on the

wall to the bathroom.

Study

I am under impressioon that you use this room quite a lot when you are at home. Basically what is missing compa-

red to the original suggestions is the stabilization at the wall behind the husband`s back, and some accents of ele-

ment wood and water in the husband`s half, and a bit of water in the wife`s half of the space.

The stabilization can be done by installing further high shelving at the wall behind the husband’s back, or at a sym-

bolic level by pictures of mountains and thick, high woods. The pictures should have enough colors of elements wa-

ter and wood:

The original plan was to have two study rooms, but the layout was changed, and the new issue with the changed

layout is that you are sitting facing each other in a quite empty space. Sitting face to face could signify conflict, and

the empty, undefined space makes it harder to concentrate on one’s task at hand. Therefore I would suggest that

you define the parts of the space using area rugs, and to arrange a communication spot signifying the quality of to-

getherness, somewhere halfway between your desks.

The area rugs can be of some light natural color, or to evoke elements wood and water. The communication point

could be marked by at least two chairs and a small table at the wall that is between the windows. Naturally, it also

can be a sofa and armchairs. You can also help your concentration at the desks by putting some extensions in front

of both desks, with some characteristic object on it. It can be a large nice stone, a bonsai tree, a large vase, a sculp-

ture or anything that would hold your eyes.
