The Grundtvig Learning Partnership “Inter- generational ICT Skills” addresses new forms of illiteracy in the shape of exclusion from use of ICT in daily life: adults who are not com- puter literate are deprived of essential infor- mation. This partnership aims at exploring models for learning opportunities between generations, and at promoting the motivation of older people for acquiring basic under- standing of ICT through an intergenerational transfer of skills. . The Learning Partnership also aims to promote the transfer of cultural and social experiences made by the older to the younger generation to acquire a sense of European citizenship. Unearthing this trea- sure is important since the potential of trans- ferring this knowledge to younger genera- tions is endangered due to the fact that it will literally “die out”. Therefore, the project’s core learning objective is a transfer of ICT skills from younger to older people during the process of interviews about the life of the old people. Together, they will create their “family story” with text, pictures and short video sequences (if desired), and they will upload these stories onto an internet blog provided by the project. As a result, the older generation will be intro- duced to basic ICT; and young people will take responsibility and learn about cultural and social backgrounds. The project will therefore help to understand historical context and provide reflection in order to increase tolerance and to reduce prejudices and xenophobia. OBJECTIVES “When there is a computer in the household, everybody should use it, not children only. And It is great to receive icq messages from the grandmother. I can save money for sending mobile messages :)). ”Jiří (16), “I think that for the seniors it is very impor- tant to be able to solve many problems without leaving their apartment. Financial issues, administrative stuff, buy and sell things, etc. But they can also find new friends, exchange knowledge and experi- ence and everyday gossip. It is important to find people like that because the young- sters often don´t have time to listen to their parents and when you need to talk to somebody an internet community can be an alternative solution. And you might find there more than just friends. Me and my new boyfriend we met in the internet aswell.” Theresa (55) INTERGENERATIONAL ICT SKILLS www-intergenerational-ictskills.eu

INTERGENERATIONALICT SKILLS

“The very beginning of our ICT course was dicult. Or maybe weird. We didn´t have any experience with teaching seniors and we were very nervous when we started the rst courses. But than suddenly we realized their fascination and honest interest and that was really encouraging to see how they listened to every word we said and every information. ” Richard Kolář Centre for family and social care
