Fr. Keith’s Korner Fr. Keith’s Korner Fr. Keith’s Korner Fr. Keith’s Korner This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the

Epiphany, remembering how the magi (Gentiles from outside the local Jewish culture) are the first to adore the Christ child, immediately bringing a multi-cultural context to the story of Jesus. Our own celebration of this feast, using music and languages from our various ethnic origins, reminds us that our worship today continues to be multi-cultural, and that we are truly enriched by the beauty of the various cultures from which we come. Thanks to all those who donated narthex flags, or shared their knowledge of other languages, or wore their native dress this weekend. This Epiphany we were able to hang seven new flags, donated by our parishioners, in the narthex. Many of you have been so kind in sending cards and gifts and bringing goodies to the parish office at Christmastime, many including thoughtful words of appreciation. Your gratitude means so much to me and all the members of our staff. Also, many thanks for your generosity in our Christmas collection, which is so important to keep the budget balanced each year. The winter training session for new altarservers is scheduled for Saturday 20 January. Young people in grades 5-12 are very welcome to serve their parish in this way. Please pre-register for this training using the information available elsewhere in this bulletin. Our New Year's Eve Interfaith Concert and Service was very inspiring again this year. Special thanks to Daniel Owens, Peggy Nathan, and Patty Cool (and all who assisted them), as well as Rabbi Hersch who provided the reflection that evening. On New Year’s Day after Mass, a sprinkler head in the sacristy burst, causing a flood there and in other nearby areas. Thanks to Steve Lynch for alerting me to the problem, as well as Pat O’Connor, our Director of Parish Operations, and Mike and Jo Bowersox who were so helpful in the recovery effort. I was very grateful it didn’t happen during Christmas Masses…

Fr. Keith

SAINT JOHN REGIONAL CATHOLIC SCHOOL DID IT AGAIN!

Our parish school received the 2017 National Blue Ribbon School of

Excellence Award for the second time. Relating to eight parishes in

southern Frederick County, our regional Catholic school is one of only

fifty non-public schools around the country to receive this year’s Blue

Ribbon award. Our students are testing in the top fifteen percent of

the country in reading and math at all grade levels.

Not only is the school academically excellent, but what better gift to

give your child than a faith-based education?

There are many opportunities for financial aid and scholarships. Do not

let the cost of tuition deter you… there is help available!

Why not visit the school during their next Open House on Wednesday

31 January from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM, and see why Saint John Regional

Catholic School is the best investment you can make for your child’s

future!

Saint Katharine Drexel parish has over 120 students enrolled at Saint

John Regional Catholic School in grades 1-8. Pre-K3 and pre-K4 classes

are also available. Ask your fellow parishioners why they have chosen

Saint John Regional Catholic School for their children!
