e Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education Program isan undergraduate program that prepares teacher candidates to fill positions in schools,Head Start programs, day care centers, or family day care homes, hospitals, recreation

centers or other child-oriented businesses. us, teacher candidates in this programparticipate in a highly interdisciplinary program that requires teacher candidates to

acquire the knowledge bases from multiple disciplines and helps them integrate thoseviewpoints into one that is functional for planning programs for young children (withand without disabilities), and their families. e final professional experience (student

teaching) is the culminating experience for teacher candidates in this program requiringthem to analyze, synthesize, and apply information from the various disciplines. eprogram is aligned with the Kentucky Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education

Standards, National Association for the Education of Young Children TeacherStandards, Common Core Academic Standards, and Kentucky Education Professional

Standards Board emes.

e School of Educatione Educator Preparation Program is designed to prepare teachers to pursue

positions in P-12 schools. ere are 10 teaching areas in the Educator PreparationProgram from which to choose. ey are Studio Art Education, Biology Education,Elementary Education, English Education, Health Education (in conjunction with

Physical Education Teaching), Math Education, Music Education, Social StudiesEducation, Physical Education Teaching and Interdisciplinary Early Childhood

Education. e School of Education has one graduate program the Master of Arts inSpecial Education (LBD P-12). ere are two non-teaching areas in the School of

Education: Physical Education and Child Development.

As liberators through education, KSU teacher candidates are primarily learners whorecognize the value of education and the inherent power of acquiring and utilizing

knowledge. ey understand the intellectual diligence required to acquire theknowledge necessary to qualify as a professional educator; they acquire the contentknowledge important to the teaching in their content area; they know the primary

importance of effective communication skills; they know the need to serve thecommunity as a leader and role model who will shape diverse communities and

exemplify the principles of high ethical conduct and individual responsibility; and theyknow that the pursuit of knowledge is a lifelong endeavor and continually seek to

develop in their students a love of learning.
