Welcome to the WORLD RELIEF CANADA family

Statement of Faith We believe in...

The Holy Scriptures as given by God, divinely inspired, infallible, entirely trustworthy and the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

One God, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; who created the world as an expression of His love, power, and creativity; who sent Jesus Christ into the world as healing and liberating Saviour to bring about reconciliation and restoration through His death and resurrection; and who sustains and completes His plan through the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit; A day, appointed by God, in which He will judge the world in righteousness

The Gospel as ministry to the whole person; understanding it to be Gods desire to see individuals and communities healed and restored; physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.

Three Stories From The FieldWorld Relief Canada changes millions of lives. Here are three stories that exemplify the core of our mission.

    Story1 MeetMaombi, CEO

Maombi (age 22), her husband Muicandirwa (age 24), and their two small children (ages 3 and 1), live in a village in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Their village, hanging on the side of a mountain, was overrun by M23 rebels backed by Tutsi cattle owners, and they as Hutu cultivators had to flee for their lives. After the removal of M23 by UN forces, Maombi and her family could return to their home but their livelihood was totally destroyed.2

With help from supporters like you, World Relief is responding by assisting farmers to begin cultivation again with basic tools, seed, and agricultural training. Also local savings groups are being formed to assist returnees with financial services.

Maombi joined one such savings group of 25 villagers called Tuungane (meaning lets be united). Each week members save from

1 to 5 shares each (~ 50 cents per share). Some members take micro-loans for income-generating activities from the groups savings and all members earn interest from those loans on their savings.

Before the rebels destroyed her food stock, Maombi used to buy cassava roots, grind it into flour, and sell it for a small profit. Her husband did haircuts. After returning to her village, Maombi took a micro-loan of $20 from her group and used the capital to purchase cassava roots and restart her flour production. Also $5 was provided from a small group social fund to purchase needed medicine for her husband who had become sick. Now her business has been restarted and her husband has recovered! Praise God! Maombi wanted us to express her deep gratitude for the assistance and Christian love expressed by her fellow group members and World Relief supporters! Thank you!

Joba and her family struggled to make it through the lean times in rural Bangladesh.Work is seasonal and food easily becomes sparse. To help during the lean times, Joba signed up for a class on raising ducks.

After just 5 days of training on how to make a duck farm, which ducks will lay more eggs, how to prepare houses to keep ducks, about their food, how to keep their house clean, different types of duck diseases and how to keep them out of diseases and more, Joba was ready for her own flock.

Thanks to generous Canadians like you who support World Relief Canadas Road to Independence project, Joba received 10 ducklings to help her on her way. Jobas ducks quickly began laying 8 eggs a day allowing her to feed her 2 boys and sell them for a total of 64 taka (about a dime short of a dollar).

With her savings from her new business, she bootstrapped her way to a flock of 25 ducks and a handful of hens.

Without our support, Joba would still be struggling. Thank you so much for making a difference!

We could get a tractor and do this job in less than half the time. But we dont and heres why. Development is about empowering communit-ies to work their way out of hunger and poverty. Its about giving them the tools and the knowledge they need to change their situation. We also want to make sure that they are able to continue their development long after we have gone. This is what it means to work in partnership with the poor. Canal excavation may not seem lifesaving, however, when you dig further theres more than meets the eye.

During the rainy season in Bangladesh, fields become flooded and it becomes impossible to cultivate new crops. By excavating the canal systems, excess water flows off the fields and into the cleared canals. Then during the dry season, farmers can use water in the canals to irrigate their fields. Furthermore, all the mud thats been excavated gets piled up to create an elevated dirt road. This allows for children to travel to school safely and for people to sell their goods in neighboring communities more easily.

To help make sure that erosion doesnt fill the canal system again, trees are planted on the both sides of the elevated road and the roots help to hold the soil together. When the trees mature, they can be harvested and sold to further benefit the community. New trees are then planted and managed by the community. Often, its widows who are hired by the village to care for the trees. Because clearing the canals helps to revitalize an entire community, many people come out to work. This provides temporary employment to those who would otherwise be waiting for seasonal work to open up on the farms. Because this helps farms to grow more crops, it also means that more members of the community are hired throughout the year. We dont want to use a tractor to clear this canal because using one is a fix, not a solution. Using a tractor would also take away many jobs from the rural poor who struggle to feed themselves and their families. In providing work, we are empowering men and women to earn a living that will care for their most important needs. Essentially, more good comes from helping men and women to overcome the obstacles they face than if we were to just do it for them.
