Talk by DCP Dr. Harsha The Deputy Commissioner of Police, South East Bangalore, Dr. Harsha paid a visit to the College Campus on invitation by the management on July 21, 2011. The DCP addressed students and the faculties.

Post event, BA students pursuing Journalism interviewed the DCP as part of their course curriculum:

Q. Sir, as students of Journalism, we would like to know, what contribution does the Police Service provide regarding the security of journalists?

Ans. As we all know that, journalists are the fourth pillar of democracy and they are considered very important in a democratic society. In any public event, where journalists show up, the police are there to provide everyone security. But in some instances due to the over-enthusiastic behavior of journalists, there were some incidents that were regrettable. As long as the ethics of journalism is followed by journalists, the police can assure a safe environment for them in any event.

Q. Sir, is there enough facilities provided by the police for foreign students to extend their VISA in case of any emergency? For example, if any of their exams get postponed?

Ans. Yes! Now this has been taken into consideration and more facilities are provided for foreign students. At present, this whole process of attaining Residential Permit and Extending VISA is handed over to the FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registrations Offlcer) whose offlce is in Indiranagar. They can always approach for help regarding VISA extension from the FRRO offlcer.

Q. Sir, in case of any serious conflict among students in the college campus premises, can they directly approach the police?

Ans. We’ll take it into consideration. As long as the incident took place inside the college premises, the management of the college will be dealing with it. But, if the conflict exceeds limits and any harmful incident takes place out of the college premises, it becomes a general case like any other, so the police will take it into consideration.

Q. Sir, according to you, what is the main reason behind lot of youngsters getting involved in crime during college life?

Ans. I would say, it is mainly because of their consumerist approach. If any person is spending more than what he earns or receives, obviously he or she may have to get familiar with other ways of earning money. According to me, this is the main reason for most youngsters to get involved in crime.

Techcil and T. John Group Join Hands for Cricket Match with Samarthanam The CSR team at Techcil has been evaluating options since June for their project (after the Rotary blood donation camp) to volunteer or fund. A visit to ‘Samarthanam Trust for Disabled’ helped understand the range of activities they are involved in - from hostels for disabled, to education for visually impaired and mid-day meals for thousands of children. They have recently inaugurated a 100-seater BPO in Bangalore for the physically challenged.

During discussions it was realized that more than funding, help was needed to volunteer and spend time in some activity. A Cricket match was suggested with their visually impaired team which is also the offlcial Indian team and has played across the world. They are currently preparing

for the next World Cup for Visually Impaired in 2012.

The match took place on July 16, 2011 at T. John Group of Institutions Campus. The event was organized by Mr. Rajesh Naik, Marketing Head, TJGI & Dept. of Physical Education and Sports, TJGI.

T. John Group is proud to be associated with Samarthanam. With this match, TJGI hoped to have helped create awareness and drive misconceptions present in the society towards visually impaired people.
