INTER SCHOOL COMPETITIONS Inter DPS Quiz competition 13 teams from the West Zone participated in the Inter DPS Quiz competition held at Rajkot on 4 July. The event comprised of three rounds. Round I Written/elimination round (All 13 teams) Round II -On stage qualifying 6 teams Round III -Onstage Finals-4 teams DPS Bopal team comprising of Shreyans Nagori(class VII H )and Aditya Ramchandran (Class VIII H) reached the final stage and came fourth . DPS (West Zone) Debate Competition DPS (West Zone) debate competition was held at „Abhivyakti‟ DPS Bopal, on 7 July 2012 under the aegis of The Delhi Public School Society. Twelve teams from the West Zone participated in the competition. The competition began with the lighting of the lamp and speech by the Principal of DPS Bopal, Mr. Kulbhushan Kain. The judges were Dr T.J. Purani, (Director CN Vidyavihar) and Ms. Nandini Oza (Sr correspondent THE Week ) ,both distinguished personalities of Ahmedabad. All the teams spoke enthusiastically for and against the topic „Morality is moral when voluntary‟. Over-all it was a very enlightening and insightful session.The chairperson Ms. Sukanya Bhasker, alumni DPS Bopal Ahmedabad, drew a conclusion that morality is voluntary but certain rules are necessary to be laid down for smooth functioning of the society. The function ended with vote of thanks by the Vice-principal Ms. Vandana Joshi.

INTER SCHOOL COMPETITIONS

Inter DPS Quiz competition

13 teams from the West Zone participated in the Inter DPS Quiz competition held at Rajkot on 4 July.

The event comprised of three rounds.

DPS (West Zone) Debate Competition

DPS (West Zone) debate competition was held at „Abhivyakti‟ DPS Bopal, on 7 July 2012 under the aegis of The

Delhi Public School Society. Twelve teams from the West Zone participated in the competition. The competition

Inter School Round of Word Chase Competition

Saumya Shrivastava of class 10 D stood first in the inter school round of Word Chase conducted on 22 July 2012,

Sunday. Hershey Bhagat also of class 10 D stood second in the same. They qualify for the National round where

they compete with winners from each state.

Derek’s Faster Smarter Better Challenge

The school round of DEREK's FASTER SMARTER BETTER CHALLENGE was held in DPS Bopal on

24th July, 2012. Four teams comprising of 4 students from classes VI to X took the challenge. The teams were

given the names Apple, Banana, Cherry & Mango. The duration of the challenge was of 45 minutes and was

professionally researched, organised and conducted by Quiz Host Mr Darren Ross-relationship Executive of Derek

O'Brien & Associates.

The four teams had a neck to neck competition, with the Banana team taking away the winner slot by scoring a

perfect 20 in the memory round finally emerging winners by 75 points Cherry and Mango scored 65 and Apple 55.

Derek's FASTER SMARTER BETTER Challenge is a nationwide contest for students of classes VI-X. This show

skillfully conducted challenges students to think, work and speak faster, smarter and better through rounds on

logical and analytic thinking, public speaking, memory building exercises, life skills and general awareness. Four

students from the 16 participants will represent the school in the city finals on 1stAugust, 2012.

Derek's FASTER SMARTER BETTER Challenge is a nationwide contest for students of classes VI-X. This show

Inter DPS Semi Classical Vocal Competition (West Zone)

The Inter DPS West Zone –Semi Classical Vocal Competition was held on 28th

July 2012 at DPS Gandhinagar.

Students of classes VI, VII, VIII & X participated and bagged the 1st prize in group song. They performed semi

classical patriotic song. Pratha Khandekar student of class VI performed solo song (Ghazal).

Hindi Patriotic Singing Competition

The „Inter School Hindi Patriotic Singing Competition‟ was held on 1August 2012 at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

Memorial, Shahibaug, Ahmedabad. The competition was organized by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial Society

& Rotary Club Ahmedabad, Airport. 20 Schools participated in this competition. Students of class VIII & X

participated and bagged the 2nd prize in group song. They performed semi classical patriotic song.

DPS Bopal participated in the IT Quiz organized by TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) company on 7 August 2012

at Tagore Hall, Paldi. Mr.Giri, who holds Limca book of Guinness record for conducting Quizzes, was the Quiz

master. DPS Team found a place among six best teams selected out of 800+ teams after the preliminary round.

Anshul Roy of 10-C and Rohin Deorari of 10-D were placed 4th

in the final of Gujarat region.

Inter DPS West Zone – Folk Dance Competition

The „Inter DPS West Zone – Folk Dance Competition‟ was held on 4 August 2012 at DPS, Udaipur. Students of

class VII, VIII, IX & X participated and bagged the 2nd

prize in group dance. They performed Gujarati Gagar

Dance. DPS Bopal also bagged the best choreography award.

Interschool Extempore Competition

DPS Bopal hosted an Interschool Extempore Competition on Saturday, 18 August 2012. 22 schools from across

the city participated in the competition. The participants were divided into 4 teams – Surajmukhi, Kumudini,

Sunflower and Water Lilly for Hindi & English, junior and senior teams respectively. This was done to ensure

impartial judgement where students did not disclose the name of their school but were identified by the team name

and number. Jayati Sahay of Sunflower team bagged the 1st runner up trophy.

Inter DPS West Zone – Western Vocal Competition

The „Inter DPS West Zone – Western Vocal Competition‟ was held on 24 August 2012 at DPS, Bhopal.

Students of class X, XI & XII participated in Solo & Group song. Group song was “I will follow you” from the

classic film „Sister Act‟.

Khushboo Yadav a student of class XII performed a solo song.

Inter School English Quiz Competition- BQC

The city finals of the iconic Inter School English Quiz competition- BQC was held on 1 Nov 2012 at Shyama

Prasad Vasavda Hall, Kokhra,Ahmedabad. 21schools participated fielding three teams comprising Shubhranshu

Dutta and Parth Sastry from classes VII and VIII respectively.

DPS Bopal team qualified for the onstage round as one the top 6 team among 63 teams of the city scoring 24/25 in

the written preliminary round. DPS Bopal bagged the 2nd

position with 60 points.

Solid waste Management

The Competition on Solid waste Management, under the awareness programme named “HEAL THE WORLD”

was conducted on 11 December 12. The students of grade 6-8 had participated in the Interschool Competition on

Solid waste management organized by the United World Institute of Design. The objective of the programme was

to create awareness on the importance of our environment and how we can save it by changing our outlook and

become the change agent. The united world believes in empowering individuals by expanding personal horizons

through a rigorous, scholarly and proactive education. The students took part individually and in groups where in

they made fascinating and creative models out of wastes like CDs, cans, thermocol, coconut shells, plastic bottles.

The simplicity of all the models complemented its amazing creativity.

The competition was judged by Mr. Pankaj (Mentor & Principal of United world) and Ms. Manisha. The models

made by the students were displayed in the Gargi building, Ground Floor. Four models made by:

1)Soumitra Mishra 7-F, 2)Anvisha, Aastha And Tanya 8-B, 3)Jenil, Sameer, Prashiv And Aaditya were

shortlisted and were exhibited in the final round held at Karnavati Knowledge Village, Uvarsad. This contest was a

great learning experience for the students as they interacted with the students of other schools on the grand finale.

Drawing Competition

Drawing Competition – Conservation of Energy by TPCE

“Art is the simpler and the easiest way of expressing one‟s thought”, very aptly suggested by the Rotary club of

Ahmedabad Sterling as well as the TATA Power Club energy (TPCE) at the Energy Conservation drawing

competition.

The topic of the competition was “Conservation of Energy” which prompted students to use their creativity and

carve different ways of Energy Conservation with the help of science. Nearly 10 schools participated in the event

held at Sundarvan, near ISRO, Ahmedabad on 28th

December.

Radio Mirchi G One Competition

Gone are the days where learning was confined to the four walls of the classrooms. Recent developments have

introduced us to a new world of learning-the domain of digital narratives, where we Explore, Innovate, Create….

the Future.

To encourage the essential skills of reading and critical thinking, Radio Mirchi, in collaboration with The Calorx

School, had organised inter-school competitions, „Bookworm-2013‟ for students of Grades 3-7 and „Innovate-

2013‟ for students of Grades 6-11. The competition was held on Saturday, 2nd February 2013 at The Calorx

School Campus. The following students represented Delhi Public School Bopal, in both the competitions:

For Bookworm: TusharChandran (3), Janka Patel (4), Gaurav Mishra (5), NayanikaSinghal (7), For Innovate:

team 1: TanishqGoenka (6), Uday Parikh (7), ShreyToshniwal&RitikVohra (8) Team 2: Rinshi Jain (9),

AnanditaRangarajan&ShivangiDasgupta (10), Hetanshi Patel (11).

Over 15 prestigious schools from Ahmedabad and other cities had participated in these competitions. Besides

students from schools, there were also over 150 direct entries for Innovate 2013. The competitions started at 11 am

and were held grade-wise in different classrooms. The panel of judges comprised of teachers from different

schools. The results were declared in the afternoon and the prizes were given by Ms Raksha Bharadia, eminent

author and columnist, and Shri Pradyumna Vyas, Director of National Institute of Design. RJ Megha from Radio

Mirchi was also present in the function to encourage and motivate the students. Students from DPS excelled in

these competitions and returned back with the following prizes along with rolling trophy for the Mirchi G One

2013, Season II Inter-school competitions.

My Neighbourhood Hero

42 Students of Class VII to XII participated in Essay/Story competition “My Neighbourhood Hero” conducted by

YUVA Unstoppable a NGO. Three students of DPS were selected for the stories and were awarded a Certificate at

SEWA.

The Zydus School For Excellence celebrated the Dashabdi mahotsav that is “ZYFEST”, an inter school

competition on the 27.07.12 and 28.07.12. Different schools from Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Baroda etc. participated in

this event.

First level of Progressive Exam was conducted by Progressive Talents Inc., USA for classes IV and V on 23.08.12.

44 students took the exam.

U.N. exam was conducted by United Schools Organisation of India in A.V. Room for class V in which 17 students

participated on 28.08.12.

English Championship, ESOL, was held for classes IV and V in which 17 students participated on 18.10.12.

9 students took Iken Scientifica exam which was held for classes IV and V on 03.11.12. 6 students qualified for

the second level to be held in the coming months. Names of the students qualified for the second level are:

Math Premier League was held for classes II to V on 03.11.12. It was conducted by MaRRs and was taken up by

178 students.

CIGKL exam was held on 14.12.12 in which 130 students of classes III- V took part. Antra Mitra, III- E, won 1st

Position in this all India level GK exam. She bagged a cash prize of ` 2000/-. Six students got the distinction in

the competition.

School level of MaRRs Spelling Bee competition was held for classes I to V on 23.11.12. 245 students took the

exam. 109 students were qualified for the School Oral Round held on 11.01.13. Inter School Written Round is

scheduled on 14.04.13 for the qualified students of class I onwards.

Inter School Reading Competition „Bookworm- 2013‟ was held at The Calorx School in collaboration with Radio

Mirchi on 02.02.13 for the classes III- V. 3 students from DPS Bopal participated and Tushar Chandran of III- C,

stood 1st in the same.

Inter School Poetry Recitation competition was held on 13.02.13 at Anand Niketan, Satellite for classes I - VII.

The theme of the competition was „Footprints on the Sands of Time‟. D.P.S. bagged 2nd

Position in the same. The

National Cyber Olympiad (NCO), first round, was held for classes II to V on 20.09.12. 228 students took the exam

conducted by Science Olympiad Foundation. 11 students from classes II- V were qualified for the second level that

was held on 17.02.13

National Science Olympiad (NSO), 1st Round, was conducted by Science Olympiad Foundation for classes II - V

22.11.12. 314 students took the exam. 11 students qualified for the second level conducted on 17.02.13

90 students took the first level of IIO exam, conducted by Silverzone Olympiads, held on 29.11.12 in school. 18

students qualified for the second level conducted on 21.02.13.

First level of Britannia Conquest was held for classes I - V on 31.07.12. 400 students participated in the exam. 40

students qualified for the second level that was held on 26.02.13. School toppers of second level are:
