Intelligent and Efficient SF6-Gas Handling New Products and Information on SF6

The SF6-Leakcheck traces even smallest leakages on SF6-containing components safely and reliably, e. g. on GIS compo-nents, pipings, flange unions, etc. Minimum detectable leak rate is 1*10-9 mbar/l/s bzw. 1 ppmv. If the sensor tip is approached to some unkown leak, an immedia-te alarm is triggered. With the help of the programmed alarm threshold any inadmissibly high leakage can be made out imme-diately. For determining the actual leakage rate the hand-held

device can be switched over to measuring mode. The device can also be used for integral leakage measurement under atmosphere in closed rooms. As no radioactive source is used, no special safety measures need to be taken. The system requires neither carrier nor rinsing gas; therefore costs for special clean-sing gas do not occur. Leakage detection on GIS components

Size of the vacuum chamber and the conveying system can be widely adap-ted to clients‘ requirements. Dual sta-tions can also be configured to boost production throughput.

For series production of gas insulated components (GIS) we have developed a new SF6 leakage test unit. With the system, type Z761R.., even smallest leakages can be detected within a short period of time. Lowest leakage rates down to 1*10-9 mbar l/s are traced without difficulty. Detection limit of the laser system is < 1 ppb (0.001 ppm). Test period is rather short: Mostly, the measuring result is indicated on the screen after 3 - 5 minutes, the total leak rate being indicated in mbar l/s or other common units.

As SF6 is used as quen-ching and insulating gas in the GIS assembly it-self, the gas will remain in the test object upon com-pletion of the process. Therefore, the SF6 test method is a viable alter-native to the well-established helium leak

test, as no test gas has to be recovered when the test process is completed. At customer‘s preference we also execute leakage tests on GIS components at our premises on a commission basis. This service proves useful to the customer if only a smaller number of as-semblies has to be tested meaning that the purchase of a test system would not pay off. A state-of-the-art control system combi-ned with a 17“ screen make system operation easy and comfortable.

The mass flow measuring device records gas quantities that are recovered from or returned to gas compartments.

The B152R01 mass flow measuring device was removed from our product range and is replaced as of now by the new type B152R41. The replacement device is installed in a metal housing and can be wall or table mounted. There is also one version with battery operation available. The small service unit of the „Micro“ series was specially develo-ped for the handling of very small gas quantities. However, the „small one“ does not need to shy away from comparison. Small but efficient: type B093R30.

The „Mini“ series was completed by a new vacuum compressor unit with a power rating of 3.3 m³/h. In conjunction with the B095R10 vacuum compressor, the unit allows to recover SF6 from smaller gas compartments in a faster way. It is a simple and cost-effective system for mobile storage of SF6 measuring gas recovered during the measuring process. The discharge gas collecting bag can be connected to the measuring device via hose, included in the scope of supply. The measuring gas from up to 25 measurements is collected and can be pumped back in gas compartments or gas bottles with any service cart. These mobile suction pump units can be retrofitted to old SF6-gas reclaimers which mostly allowed gas recovery up to 50 mbar only and therefore do not comply with IEC regulation 62271-303 recommending a gas recovery < 20 mbar. Enrollment of 500th seminar participant

Last May we could welcome the 500th participant to the SF6 certi-fication seminar. Acc. to EC regulation no. 305/2008 power utili-ties and manufacturers of high-voltage electrical equipment >1 kV are required to evidence that only certified personnel is engaged in the recovery of SF6-gas. DILO was nominated as authorized training company acc. to EC regulation 842/2006. Since January 2009, DILO has been offering to power utilities and switchgear manufacturers a 2-days‘ training to obtain permission for SF6 recovery acc. to EC stipulations.
