Intel’s latest desktop processors based on the company's upcoming new microarchitecture

will be officially branded "Intel® Core™ processor." The first products in this new family of

processors will carry an "i7" identifier, including an "Extreme Edition" version, and will be

formally branded as "Intel® Core™ i7 processor." This is the first of several new identifiers

to come as different products launch over the next year.

Products based on the new microarchitecture will deliver high performance and energy

efficiency. The Intel Core i7 processor brand logo will be available for high-performance

desktop PCs with a separate black logo for Intel's highest-end "Extreme Edition." Intel will

include processor model numbers to differentiate each chip.

Initial products based on this microarchitecture are expected to be in production in the

fourth quarter of this year. These processors will feature Intel® Hyper-Threading

Technology, also known as simultaneous multi-threading, and are capable of handling

eight software "threads" on four processor cores.

Intel® Core™ i7 processorIntel’s most advanced processors ever!

Welcome to the all new Intel Roadmap Directions. With enterprise

today being defined by the Internet and with an eye toward a greener

society we have taken Intel’s Roadmap Directions completely online.

This new online version of the IRD gives you more news, views and

perspectives on the latest technologies, emerging technology trends,

expert opinions, including the regular Roadmap Guidance across

Desktop, Mobile and Server platforms and products.

In this volume the spotlight is focused on the path-breaking Intel®

life, speedier and longer-range wireless connections (Wi-Fi and later

WiMAX), thinner and lighter styles and new business-class features.

The product in focus in this edition is the Intel® Xeon® processor 7400

series that is defined by leading virtualization performance and

energy efficiency in a multi-processor server. Also introduced are the

first versions of the new Intel® Core™ Processor family, the Intel®

Core™ i7 Processors reputed to be Intel’s most advanced processors

ever, and featured are the Intel® Core™2 Extreme Mobile Processor

QX9300 and the Intel® Core™2 processor with vPro™ technology.

Using hardware-based technologies, you can remotely manage both notebook and desktop PCs with Intel® vPro™ technology. These capabilities work with management solutions from leading ISVs such as HP, LANDesk, Microsoft, and Symantec to enhance down-the-wire control of your company’s computers and streamline maintenance and other operations.

When desktops or notebooks experience issues, you can speed recovery times, minimize deskside visits, and improve technician efficiencies. Intel® vPro™ technology can help you diagnose and repair both wired and wireless systems remotely – even notebooks outside the corporate firewall – cut downtime, and reduce the average in-person IT support time. You can even access notebook and desktop PCs when the OS is unresponsive, while from the user’s side, a new “fast help” hotkey lets them quickly and securely connect the PC to

1the help desk for servicing from outside the corporate firewall.

Intel® vPro™ technology also allows you to perform remote asset tracking and check the presence of management agents virtually anytime. This functionality helps you conduct

2hardware and software inventories up to 94% faster than manually per PC. These notebooks and desktop PCs can initiate secure communications to the IT console from outside or inside the corporate firewall to check for patches, inventory requests, and other updates, making it even easier to schedule maintenance and other work.

Take business PCs to the next level with Intel® Core™2 processor with vPro™ technologyReduce maintenance costs and stay compliant.

~ Intel processor numbers are not a measure of performance. Processor numbers differentiate features within each processor family, not across different processor families.

See http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/ for details.

# Processors employ Intel® Advanced Smart Cache (shared cache). Features 4MB Smart Cache per core pair.

^ Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT) requires the computer system to have an Intel® AMT-enabled chipset, network hardware and software, as well as connection with a power source and a corporate network

connection. Setup requires configuration by the purchaser and may require scripting with the management console or further integration into existing security frameworks to enable certain functionality. It may also require

modifications of implementation of new business processes. With regard to notebooks, Intel AMT may not be available or certain capabilities may be limited over a host OS-based VPN or when connecting wirelessly, on battery power,

sleeping, hibernating or powered off. For more information, see www.intel.com/technology /platform-technology/intel-amt/.

+ Results shown are from the 2007 EDS Case Studies with Intel® vPro™ processor technology, by LeGrand and Salamasick, 3rd party audit commissioned by Intel, of various enterprise IT environments. The studies compare test

environments of Intel® vPro™ processor technology equipped PCs vs non-Intel® vPro™ processor technology environments. Tested PCs were in multiple OS and power states to mirror a typical working environment. Actual results may

vary. The study is available at www.intel.com/vpro and www.eds.com

1 Intel® vPro™ technology includes Intel® Active Management technology (Intel® AMT). Intel® AMT requires the computer system to have an Intel® AMT-enabled chipset, network hardware and software, as well as connection with a

power source and a corporate network connection. Setup requires configuration by the purchaser and may require scripting with the management console or further integration into existing security frameworks to enable certain

functionality. It may also require modifications of implementation of new business processes. With regard to notebooks, Intel AMT may not be available or certain capabilities may be limited over a host OS-based VPN or when

connecting wirelessly, on battery power, sleeping, hibernating or powered off. For more information, www.intel.com/technology/platform-technology/intel-amt

3 Wireless connectivity is not an Intel® Atom™ processor brand requirement. See your manufacturer for details.

4 Dependent on the SKU

5 Some features, such as GPS and location-aware services, may require you to purchase additional software, services or external hardware.

6 Performance as submitted for Top500 list was 119.6 Teraflops. Source: Computational Research Labs (CRL).

7 Source: www.top500.org

8 Up to 5x better performance with optional Intel® Next-Gen Wireless N technology enabled by 2x3 Draft N implementations with 2 spatial streams. Actual results may vary based on your specific hardware, connection rate, site

conditions, and software configurations. See http://www.intel.com/performance/mobile/index.htm for more information. Also requires a Connect with Intel® Centrino® processor technology certified wireless n access point. Wireless n

access points without the Connect with Intel® Centrino® processor technology identifier may require additional firmware for increased performance results. Check with your PC and access point manufacturer for details.

9 Systems using Client Initiated Remote Access (CIRA) require wired LAN connectivity and may not be available in public hot spots or “click to accept” locations. For more information on CIRA visit,

www.intel.com/products/centrino2/vpro/index.htm.

10 Based on the theoretical maximum bandwidth enabled by 3x3 Draft-N implementations with 3 spatial streams. Actual wireless throughput and/or range will vary depending on your specific operating system, hardware and software

configurations. Check with your PC manufacturer for details.

11 Package area plus z-height reduction.

12 Intel® 64 requires a computer system with a processor, chipset, BIOS, operating system, device drivers and applications enabled for Intel 64. Processor will not operate (including 32-bit operation) without an Intel 64-enabled BIOS.

Performance will vary depending on your hardware and software configurations.

13 Enabling Execute Disable Bit functionality requires a PC with a processor with Execute Disable Bit capability and a supporting operating system. Check with your PC manufacturer on whether your system delivers

Execute Disable Bit functionality.
