Knowla Bull SaleI’d like to thank the few families who donated cooking and helped out on the day of ‘Knowla Bull Sale’. Again it was another successful fundraiser without the helpers we would not be able to raise money for our children’s school. A BIG THANK YOU to Mick Taylor and Anna Burley for helping on the day for our school. Also over the Easter long weekend Poley’s Place had a raffle and donated $3000 to Barrington School which brought iPads for our children. Poley’s Place will be having another raffle on the October long weekend and we are asking if anyone has unwanted gifts they would like to donate. They can be left with Mrs Young at the school office.Thank you - Belinda Germon

Tournament of MindsOn Sunday 28 August, two of our students joined up with twelve other Gloucester Public School students in a Tournament of the minds. Two groups were formed to compete in a Science & Technology Challenge and a Maths & Engineering Challenge at the Hastings Secondary College in Port Macquarie. Our students, Ryan Marzato and Hayley Connell were part of the Science & Technology team. Their goal; the world suffered from a devastating cataclysm and a virus eventually spread around the world causing everyone to become deaf. They needed to make a device to allow people to communicate non-verbally. Both teams did their schools proud with some wonderful teamwork being displayed amongst their ingenuity. The Gloucester students were also competing, coming straight from their Canberra school excursion and many were worse for wear with the flu. None of this dampened their spirits though as they took on both their planned long-term challenge that they have spent weeks preparing for, and a spontaneous challenge that they also faced on the day. The day also saw a Gloucester High school team compete with former student, Makayla Battams amongst the entrants. A big thank you must go to; parents Brad & Iky Marzato, Michelle Connell and also teachers Mrs Faull, Miss Crawford and Miss Baker for all their extra work in getting the students together. Overall, it was a wonderful day with many lessons learnt.Mr Dave Keen

T.O.MHayley Connell and Ryan Marzato put a tremendous amount of effort in a program they were selected for, the Tournament of the Minds (TOM). TOM has lots of different subject categories including maths and engineering, social science and creative arts. Hayley and Ryan were in science and technology. They were in a group with Rachael Smith, Emily Kearney, Brooke Willis, Chloe Tressider and Charles Tonks from Gloucester Public School.Last Sunday, the team went to Port Macquarie to present their work in front of a panel of judges in both a long term challenge and a spontaneous challenge where they had a photo and a question and had to think of three possible answers. All in all it was a very enjoyable experience. Hayley

DIGI EDOn Tuesday 13 September years 4/5/6 will be spending the whole day participating in a Claymation workshop where they will operate video and computer technologies to shoot, edit and produce a short claymation animation.

Soccer ReportOn Monday, 5 September Barrington School soccer team travelled to Gladstone to face Smithtown school in the last round of the Small Schools Soccer competition. This match was a very close game played under very trying conditions. It was a very hot day and the field had not been mowed so this impeded our usual fast play. Every member of the team put in 110% effort but in the end Smithtown was the victor with 3 goals to 2. Zane, our goalie saved another 8 attempts by Smithtown. Ethan scored both of Barrington’s goals, one coming from Beau’s first attempt. The whole team has learnt many new skills and many of our team had never played soccer so it is a credit to Mr Hughes, our coach for getting them this far. I have to mention the wonderful parents and grandparents that give up countless days to cart their kids and others all over the countryside to play in this competition. Smithtown will now play in Sydney in the finals.
