Business Value through lower TCO• Patented architecture and open standards platform
• The only architecture based on a Common Business Object Model to separate cross-application business logic from data representation
– Reduces number of integration points– Enables greater re-use than any of our competition
• Pre-built, industry-focused content• Business Process Modules (Collaborations)• Adapters for specific technology platforms and packaged applications• Re-usable objects (ASBO’s, GBO, Maps, Collaborations)• WebSphere Business Integration for industry solutions
• Integrated development environment • Process Designer, Map Designer, Adapter Development Toolkit• Reduces upfront development costs• Faster time to benefit
• Significantly reduced maintenance and upgrade costs• Fewer integration points and higher reuse means less to maintain• Central repository of integration points, monitoring tools and improved failure logic
reduces uncontrolled errors and associated systems administration costs• Isolation layer reduces time/cost/risk for future enhancements and upgrades

Sara Lee chooses WebSphere Business Integration to Automate their Item Synchronization Process and Enable EDI Over the Internet (EDI INT)
Sara Lee Obtains Immediate Benefits“”We help retailers cut costs. By doing this, we develop closer partnerships to become a preferred supplier, which gives us a leg up on competitors,” Mahaffey says. “All that being said, we also believe we will see considerable cost savings for ourselves.”“From a vision standpoint, the pieces we added to the WebSphere Business Integration architecture fit exactly in terms of where we wanted to go with electronic trading. Ultimately, using WebSphere Business Integration, we have started changing the way we do business.”— Executive Director, Sara Lee
Business Problem:-Quickly accommodate customer requests and distribution industry requirements for item synchronization - Achieve EDIINT data communication protocol in compliance with Wal-Mart supplier specifications. - In addition, Sara Lee needed and infrastructure to fulfill other retailer collaboration processes
Why IBM:•Industry focus and experience•Subject Matter Expertise•Flexibility and ability to enable internal and external item synchronization processes and EDI INT•Leader in Business Process Integration
bSolution: Deployed a process integration hub using WebSphere Business Integration (WBI) which synchronizes their item data with UCCnet and within their own enterprise.
The same WBI solution was used to move Sara Lee’s move Sara Lee's current EDI method over to EDI INT (AS2) for transaction trading with Wal-Mart and other key retailers.

E2open Evolutionizes Business Process IntegrationMeta Group - 3 April 2003
News Item: IBM recently announced a strategic partnership with process integration network E2open and the release of its first "e-business on demand" offering (a joint IBM/E2open solution for high-tech manufacturing). This is a comprehensive solution that addresses the high-tech market's demand for more collaborative business process integration (BPI) solutions at a lower cost per trading partner.
Situation Analysis: We believe the real value of the IBM/E2open solution derives from the degree of choice offered to enterprises, which can now reduce the cost and remove the complexity of value chain integration by using "mass customization" for business process integration efforts.
Instead of the lofty goal of complete value chain onboarding, the IBM/E2open offering creates a utilitarian approach to integration. We believe this solution presages the future of commodity-class B2B integration, and enables enterprises with an existing BPI infrastructure to leverage and optimize that infrastructure for cost reduction and rapid response. For late adopters in high-tech markets, the solution is a wholly outsourced BPI alternative.
By supporting multi-enterprise business process integration in a robust and secure hosted environment, we believe E2open and IBM will succeed where Ariba and Commerce One failed. The IBM/E2open solution is a smart combination of E2open's collaborative BPI applications, its mature Web services-based process integration network, and IBM's Integrated Information Systems. Together, IBM and E2open have created a unique approach for the high-tech industry, and in the process have presented the first tangible evidence that Web services technology and emerging Web services standards can be used to solve real BPI problems across an industry.
"Although relatively unknown outside its founders group, E2open has been in operation for the past couple of years, working behind the scenes proving its technology platform and building a 1,000+ customer footprint in the high-tech manufacturing sector," says META Group analyst Joanne Friedman. "The E2open network is the result of a collaborative consortium of some of the largest high-tech OEMs and electronic manufacturing outsourcing providers.

What the Market Is Saying
"As you talk to CIOs, you hear they've accumulated an awful lot of technology over the last 12 years," says Rick Sherlund, managingdirector at Goldman, Sachs & Co. "Their top priority is still cost-
cutting. After that, it's integrating it all together."………..
“Sales of integration software are expected to grow twice as fast as the rest of the market ... IBM is already the top seller of such
software …according to Gartner“
