Scenario
Setting Mainstream Classroom, 25 students, 8-9 year olds,
3 students with mild learning difficulties,1 Special Needs Assistant, 2 computers.
Task Writing a story - The Spooky Castle - Individual
stories
Software available - I Can Write 2, Write on for Windows, Clicker 4, Wordbar

Option 1
The Spooky Castle
– Use program, I Can Write 2, with whole class to introduce “The Spooky Castle” and do sample story with whole class.
– Print off picture prompts and/or word prompts to enable students to write own story
– Three children with mild learning difficulties work with special needs assistant (using printed picture prompts)

Option 2
The Spooky Castle
– Class discussion / brain storming session on possible story lines
– Divide class into 3 groups (approx. 8 students per group, 1 student with mild learning difficulties in each group)
– Each group of 8 subdivided into 3 smaller groups and work on sections of story (e.g. Group 1-beginning, Group 2-middle, Group 3- end). Each group uses one piece of software to type and illustrate own section and makes it available to own group members.

Option 3
The Spooky Castle– Children with mild learning difficulties use
Clicker 4 to write story using prepared grids
– Remaining 22 pupils write individual stories using teacher prepared wordbank
– Completed stories are then typed, illustrated and printed using Write on for Windows
