The nexus of climate change, agriculture and food security is one of the quintessential challenges of sustainable development. Man

has disintegrated nature in its ‘conquests’ over production systems as evidenced with tradeoffs in the ethical dilemma where short

term gains were preferred over long term ones. Let us respond and integrate our lessons. Today research in agriculture has to deal

more with pressing environmental concerns. Borders between the two disciplines are slowly fading. Agriculturists and ecologists,

climate change and forestry scientists, livestock and aquaculture experts work together in order to foster sustainability in agriculture,

as a part of climate change agenda via a route to a green and low carbon economy. A few years ago when we discussed our concerns

about intergenerational equity we failed to get the inputs from many of our members and well wishers from the allied sciences. Let us

pledge for a synergy of contending interests in our exercise for security concerns of future. Food and livelihood security are threatened

by ongoing and intensifying changes in the nature and location of both chronic stresses and acute shocks. Livelihood diversification

assumes importance as to deal with climatic variability/lack of predictability. Biotechnology has always been on the cutting edge of change. There is a wide range of perspectives on the environmental, human

health and economic risks and benefits of modern biotechnology. Higher level drivers of biotechnology in IPR frameworks,

nanotechnologies, nuclear interventions and transgenes introduce additional issues. There remains a growing demand for systems that

would link farmers to data about weather, climate and advisories enabling them tactical decisions with a focus on resilience of

livelihoods. Advances in stress and disease tolerant varieties, improved natural resource management and conservation agriculture

strategies with better carbon farming, novel efforts towards more efficient photosynthesis assume weight. Bioactive natural products,

synergy with botanicals, biosafety and phytoremediation are vital to make amends with our ‘chemical past’ and to trim impacts in

ecological functions - natural enemies of pests, pollinators, earth worms and birds. Conversing in these issues and essentially prioritization of improved mechanisms by assessing sustainability of practices, restoration

and enhancement of resource productivity, pests and pathogens challenges, rationing water or inputs by precision and mechanization,

improving efficiency of applied nutrients, in production systems across allied areas or better enterprise mix / cropping/farming

systems will be taken up. Inventories are required in economic sustainability, increased water and environmental quality, bioenergy,

and marketing, and distribution systems to support emerging regional and local food systems. With harsher weather conditions, fishing

communities will face dwindling opportunities making studies in access, stability and use of aquatic food relevant; aquaculture and

agriculture systems can be integrated concomitant with land and water shifts. The livestock sector with dichotomy of smallholder and

pastoralist production and commercial production, shares commonality in erosion of existing biodiversity along with livestock

management to reduce climate change impacts. Diversifying rural enterprises will ultimately render protection in food shortages and

other vulnerabilities in the future. Livelihoods options in agro-enterprise under globalization and market integration require revisit for

diversifying, value-adding, redefined supply chains and investments. The seminar aims at focusing on a broad range of research challenges in the field of data management, modeling and analysis,

marketing strategies and of course on policy implications, addressing current and future trends which will promote collaborative

research in related areas of spatial/panel/meta data bases and their use in NRM, Remote Sensing & GIS applications in land use,

forestry, water resources and other areas. With the ever changing scenario, works in clean development & carbon trading, various

indices like carbon foot print index, water stress index etc., water resource accounting, impact evaluation, gender statistics, Gender

Analysis Frame work, Estimation of Poverty/ Inequality, Poverty mapping will be useful to meet our objectives. This seminar will

assemble multi-stakeholders in scientists, professionals, young researchers and experts to contribute to the issues which enjoy

multiplicity in thematic, spatial and temporal character. You are cordially invited to participate in this seminar, joining colleagues and

industry leaders as we tackle the interface between safe livelihood security options and a future agriculture riddled with our

considerations of biology and technology. And of course debates around biotechnology. Themes:

The main theme areas will be as given below and will cover Production, Improvement, Protection, Mechanization Post Harvest &

Market, Software Interventions aspects on allied sciences of Agriculture, Horticulture, Livestock, Aquaculture, Sericulture, Dairy and

the related disciplines. There will be three types of presentation viz. Invited, Contributory Oral and Contributory Poster presentations

on each of the theme areas.

1) Production: Contributions related to production and management of crops, fishery, forestry, livestock and dairy, sericulture,

poultry etc. for judicious use of natural resources and value addition.

2) Improvement: Contribution related to the improvement in crop and animal husbandry, fishery, forestry, sericulture and other

areas using classical genetics and seed technology, molecular biology, biotechnology, nano and nuclear technologies.

3) Protection: Contribution related to the protection aspects for crop and animal husbandry, fishery, forestry, sericulture,

dairy, food safety and other areas using advance knowledge in plant pathology & entomology along with acarology,

nematology, prasitology, toxicology, biotechnology and genetic engineering tools.

4) Climate and Environment: Contribution related to the aspects of impact assessment due to climate and environmental

changes vis-à-vis mitigation strategies for crop and animal husbandry, fishery, forestry, sericulture, dairy, food security,

maintenance of carbon pool (carbon sequestration), watershed and improvement of water harvesting technologies with or

without using remote sensing and GIS technologies.

5) Information, management and policy frame work: Contribution related to the aspects of data management, analysis,

modeling, forecasting, marketing strategies, social and economic issues, policy implications, using spatial / panel / meta data

bases.

6) Interface between research and industry: Contribution related researches on farm mechanization, precision agriculture,

agrochemicals, food-fiber engineering and post harvest technologies, computer softwares and other fields.

SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS:

Research papers are invited on above mentioned thematic areas. Contributors are to submit their articles electronically using the

format of the Journal of Crop and Weed. For detail, prospective authors may consult also http/cwssbckv.org/authors guide line or

www.cropandweed.com. The papers will be reviewed by double blind peer reviewed system to be published in the Journal of Crop

and Weed, if found suitable. For respective shortlisted articles, considered for publication in the journal, all the authors must be the

members of the society. One author may be co-author of other submission but cannot represent more than one submission. Authors

should indicate one or more of the above listed themes that best describes the topic of the paper, as well as their preference (if any)

with respect to mode of presentation i.e. Oral / Poster. However, final decision with respect to presentation is vested with the Editorial

Board/Technical Committee. Similar review process will be binding for both the oral and poster presentations. The program

committee will make every effort to satisfy these preferences. Best papers will be awarded in the International Seminar. Abstracts of

the accepted submission will be published in the book of abstract/Souvenir of the Seminar.

Article may kindly be sent using the article submission menu at http//cwssbckv.org/IS14/article_submission.aspx or through

email at [email protected]. Location: The Kalyani is situated at 22
