ABSTRACT

Letter is a form of written communication.

A letter is a written message containing information from one party to another. The role of letters in communication has changed significantly since the

nineteenth century.

Historically, letters (in paper form) were the only reliable means of communication between two people in different locations.

As communication technology has diversified, posted letters have become less important as a routine form of communication.

For example, the development of the telegraph shortened the time taken to send a letter by transferring the letter as an electrical signal between distant points.

Modern world is very busy. People like to do activities easily & save time. They don't waste time for small things.

It gave the way to invention of Electronic letter box.

CHAPTER 1: INRODUCTION

Modern world is very busy. People like to do activities easily & save time. They don't waste time for small things.

So, why to go & check if a letter has come if there’s an indicator indicating the presence of a letter.

This showed the way to invention of an Electronic letter box.

A letter box which lights up a LED to show the presence of a letter.

To detect the presence of a letter we have used a LDR and a source of light i.e. an LED.

The circuit gives you a visual alarm when somebody drops a letter in your drop box/letter box.

CHAPTER 2: WHAT IS ELECTRONIC LETTER BOX?

It’s an electronic device used to indicate the presence or absence of a letter inside a letter box.

In this the source of light and LDR is so adjusted that light will fall directly fall on LDR.

To detect the presence of a letter we have used a LDR and a source of light.

So that when letter is dropped inside the box it will block the beam of light and LDR will be under darkness.

Then LED connected to output starts glowing indicating you that you have letter.

CHAPTER 4: COMPONENTS USED

LED:LEDs form an inevitable part in the modern electronics. They are specially made diodes to emit light when a potential is applied to its anode and cathode.

LDR:It is used to detect the presence of a letter. LDR is a special type of resistance whose value depends upon brightness of light which is falling on it.

IC 555:It is an integrated circuit used in a variety of timer, pulse generation, oscillator applications. It can be used to provide time delays.

CHAPTER 5: THEORY

• When somebody drops letter in your letter box then LED connected to output stops glowing indicating you that you have letter.

• To detect the presence of a letter we have used a LDR and a source of light.

• In this the source of light and LDR is so adjusted that light will fall directly fall on LDR so that when letter is dropped inside the box it will block the beam of light and LDR will be under darkness.

• The circuit gives you a visual alarm when somebody drops a letter in your drop box.

CONCLUSION:

As stated this device can be very helpful in future aspects. It can be used in homes, offices where important letters are common. Hence, timely reply is very necessary. Since any delay in getting an important letter could cost heavily.

FUTURE PLANS:

An electric letter box with a sound player can also be used. Whenever a letter is put in the letter box the sound beeps indicating the presence of letter. It switchesof automatically on removal of the letter.
