•The objective is the students will add and

subtract integers with 75% accuracy using manipulatives.

Page 3: Integers Adding and Subtracting

•A very effective approach to adding and subtracting integers is to use colored

tiles or colored disks.

Page 4: Integers Adding and Subtracting

•The reason I use red and black disk is because red

generally represents positive and black

represents negative with most wiring components.

Page 5: Integers Adding and Subtracting

•Here is an example of how the colored disk can be used when adding integers.

Page 6: Integers Adding and Subtracting

•Let the red disk represent the positive integers and

the black disk represent the negative integers.

Page 7: Integers Adding and Subtracting

•If we add 5+(-4) using our disk we can get a visual

and tactile understanding of integers.

Page 9: Integers Adding and Subtracting

•If one black disk cancels out one red disk, how many red disk are left? ONE! The answer is positive 1.

Page 10: Integers Adding and Subtracting

•The use of colored disk can be an effective

manipulative when introducing integers to

students.

•The disks give the students a visual concept of adding and subtracting integers.
