Session Speakers ‐ in order of Presentation Presentation Title and Summary: Knock‐Knock‐Knocking on Frauds Door Mike Caldarazzo ‐ Director/ National Accounts ‐ Lemieux & Associates Michael Caldarazzo is a Certified Fraud Examiner and Certified Forensic Interviewer. He has 28‐years’ experience in fraud investigations. His expertise rests in matters concerning fraud, exaggeration and complex litigation. He specializes in workers’ compensation, disability, liability and bodily‐injury investigations for insurers, mutual insurance companies, third‐party administrators and a wide‐range of self‐insured entities. Mr. Caldarazzo serves as Director of National Accounts for Lemieux & Associates, a national investigative provider based in North Haven, Connecticut. He is passionate about sharing his experience in fraud, bodily‐injury investigations and tactical surveillance. Mr. Caldarazzo believes in partnering with professionals who are serious about eliminating fraud and exaggeration from their programs. He is one of the most trusted and relied upon investigators in the industry. Presentation Title and Summary: Reduce Your Turnover by Hiring for Values Instead of Skills Courtney Clarke – Director, Communications – Miles Capital, Inc. Courtney Clarke is a member of the Miles Capital Management Committee as well as the Asset Allocation Committee, and she heads the Business Development Committee. She is responsible for oversight of all firm business development and client communication efforts. She works with all areas of the firm to plan business development initiatives and execute on communication campaigns. She also oversees the Client Service team and is responsible for exceeding client expectations. She previously served as Manager of the Client Service Team for Miles Capital. Prior to joining Miles Capital, Courtney was with Cargill Financial Markets, UK. She earned her B.S. in Business Management, International Business and a B.A. in French from Iowa State University. She currently serves on the Iowa Child Advocacy Board and the City of Waukee City Council. Presentation Title and Summary: GDPR Update Manuj Lal – Director ‐ PwC Manuj, a director in the Cybersecurity and Privacy practice based in Chicago, Illinois, leads the Midwest privacy team and strategic innovation projects for PwC. He is an accomplished strategic leader with vast experience building end‐to‐end enterprise privacy, security, legal, compliance, and risk programs. He has a unique skill set as a legal/compliance professional with an information technology background and extensive commercial experience that allows him to solve complex business problems with a holistic view on increasing enterprise value while decreasing risk. Manuj leads large project teams in transforming privacy and data protection programs for major corporations across industry. He utilizes his knowledge of industry frameworks, such as NIST, GAPP, HIPAA, and GLBA, amongst others, and privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR and CCPA, as he builds enterprise compliance and risk programs.

Presentation Title and Summary: Economic Update – It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over Robin Anderson – Senior Economist – Principal Global Investors Robin Anderson is a Senior Economist for Principal Global Investors. She works closely with the Chief Global Economist to develop and disseminate macroeconomic strategy, not only for Principal Global Investors but Principal Financial Group® as a whole. In this role, Robin presents, writes commentary, assists in forecast development, and advises investment professionals on current economic trends and outlook. She also works closely with the Principal Portfolio Strategies team within Principal Global Investors. In that capacity, Robin develops macroeconomic and quantitative research to assist in asset allocation decisions. Robin joined Principal Financial Group® in 2011. Prior to that, she worked as an economist at the U.S. Census Bureau. She received her Ph.D. in economics in 2008 from the University of Washington and a bachelor’s degree in economics in 2002 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Robin has numerous speaking engagements in the U.S., from Deadwood, South Dakota to New York. She was one of two Principal Financial Group® employees selected to attend Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Next Gen Conference in 2014. Robin is frequently quoted in the financial news media including CNBC and Bloomberg. Presentation Title and Summary: Crossing the Ethical Boundary – Insights from a Fraud Investigator Shauna Woody‐Coussens – Managing Director ‐ BKD Shauna Woody‐Coussens is a managing director of BKD’s Forensic & Valuation Services practice in the Kansas City, Missouri office. Shauna has over 25 years of experience investigating fraud and also serves as an expert witness with regard to damages for complex commercial litigations. Shauna’s forensic investigative experience includes fraud investigations for internally identified company matters, in response to inquiries by third parties and regulatory bodies, and in litigation in a variety of industries. Shauna serves as BKD’s subject matter expert with regard to Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigations and has testified in front of the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission on such matters. . Presentation Title and Summary: Unstable Outlook: The Changing Landscape of Fixed Income Walt Stubbings – Senior Portfolio Manager – Miles Capital, Inc. Walt is responsible for contributing to asset allocation, risk management, and multi‐sector portfolio strategies for Miles Capital’s institutional clients. In addition, Walt serves as the sector specialist within the fixed income team for the securitized and municipal sectors. He has over 25 years of fixed income portfolio management and analysis experience, and has covered the corporate credit, municipal, and securitized sectors of the market. Most recently, Walt was fixed income portfolio manager at United Missouri Bank in Kansas City and held various portfolio management, asset allocation, and trading responsibilities. Walt also previously worked with the FDIC, First Trust Advisors, Kansas City Life Insurance Company, and GE Financial Assurance. Walt earned his M.B.A. (with honors) from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He has earned his CFA, CPA and FLMI designations.

Presentation Title and Summary: US GAAP Accounting Change in the Insurance Industry Ariane Pollack – Accounting Advisory Director ‐ PwC Ariane works in PwC's Capital Markets and Accounting Advisory Services (“CMAAS”) practice based in Chicago, IL. The CMAAS practice specializes in helping clients identify solutions for complex accounting and financial reporting challenges related to significant transactions and capital markets activities. Ariane has worked on insurance clients for 10 years both in the US, in our Chicago, McLean and Chicago Offices, and in London, UK. Ariane has deals experience in assisting insurers with various capital market activities including mergers and acquisitions, IPOs and debt offerings, carve‐outs. She also has experience with GAAP conversions and accounting advisory services including the adoption of new accounting standards. Her clients include Life & Annuity, Property & Casualty, General Insurance, Mortgage Guaranty, and Accident & Health insurance entities. Ariane’s technical accounting expertise and financial reporting knowledge includes accounting for insurance contracts, business combinations, segment reporting, consolidation, SEC registration process, pro forma financial statements, financial instruments, foreign currency, goodwill and intangible impairment analyses, and other financial reporting topics. She has also worked on, actuarial remediation projects, and various benchmarking analyses for finance and actuarial processes and controls. Michael Hartt – Accounting Advisory Director – PwC Michael is a director in PwC's Capital Markets and Accounting Advisory Services practice. He has 10 years of experience leading engagements in multiple sectors, including life, property and casualty, and insurance brokerage, with a primary focus on commercial property and casualty and life. Michael has technical expertise in the areas of US GAAP, IFRS, and US statutory accounting. For the past year Michael has primarily focused on accounting conversion efforts with respect to IFRS 17 and targeted improvements to US GAAP for long‐duration contracts. Michael has supported numerous cross‐functional teams in conducting Phase 1 impact assessments through full accounting policy development and advising clients on their implementation of the new standards. Presentation Title and Summary: Block Chain: Disrupting our Future Jay Schulman – Principal – RSM US LLP Jay leads the Cryptocurrency and Blockchain practice for RSM. He has helped a major commodities exchange roll out an initial coin offering, consulted multiple trading firms on the security of their cryptocurrency trading strategies, developed strategies for adopting blockchain and taught numerous classes on the basics of blockchain and cryptocurrencies.

Presentation Title and Summary: Insurance Commissioner Update Doug Ommen – Insurance Commissioner – Iowa Department of Insurance Doug Ommen was appointed by Governor Terry Branstad as Insurance Commissioner in January 2017, after serving as Interim Commissioner since December 2016. Ommen has a strong and varied public service background. Ommen’s dedication and desire to serve the public began in seeking justice for victims of fraud in the Missouri Attorney General’s Office, where as an assistant attorney general and then as chief counsel, he led the fight to protect consumers over the course of three decades. Ommen served as Deputy Insurance Commissioner at the Iowa Insurance Division from August 2013 to December 2016. Ommen also served in the Missouri Department of Insurance during 2005 – 2008, and as Missouri’s Insurance Director was instrumental for several key regulatory reforms. Ommen currently serves as the Chair of the NAIC's Life Insurance and Annuities (A) Committee. Ommen obtained his law degree in 1985 from the Saint Louis University School of Law, and is licensed to practice law in both Iowa and Missouri. Ommen and his wife, Sharon, have two married children and three grandchildren. Presentation Title and Summary: Tax Update Kara Cramer – Senior Manager ‐ BKD A member of BKD National Insurances Services Practice, Kara has more than nine years of experience providing federal and state tax compliance, tax planning, ASC 740 accounting, SSAPP 101 and consulting services for clients in a variety of industries, including various types of insurance companies. Her industry experience allows her to assist various businesses and individuals. Kara is a member of the American Institute of CPAs as well as the Missouri Society of CPAs. Kara is a 2009 graduate of The University of Kansas, Lawrence, with a B.A. degree in accounting and an M.A. degree in accounting with an emphasis in taxation.

Presentation Title and Summary: NAIC Update Connie Jasper Woodroof – NAIC Liason ‐ Sapiens Connie Jasper Woodroof began her career in the insurance industry in 1984 completing statutory filings for both Life and Property/Casualty companies. Ms. Woodroof spent nine years with the NAIC where she served in various capacities; reviewing of annual statements for quality, testing of RBC formulas and software during formula development, and assisting with the development and teaching of an industry educational series. Since 2002, she has been the NAIC Liaison for Sapiens, where she helps both Sapiens and its clients keep abreast of events at the NAIC. Connie is active on several industry interested parties groups for NAIC issues, serving as a co‐chair of the Blanks interested party group. Connie is a volunteer on the national level for the Insurance Accouting & Systems Association (IASA), serving as chair of the Textbook Committee and as a member of the Accounting, Risk Management, and Finance (ARF) committee. Woodroof holds a B.S. in Accounting and a M.A. in General Psychology.

MINUTES OF THE MIDWEST CHAPTER OF IASA BUSINESS MEETING 2018 Fall CONFERENCE
The 2018 Fall Conference of the Midwest Chapter of the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association (MWIASA) was held September 13th -14th at the Courtyard by Marriott in Ankeny, IA.
Jack Maier called the business meeting to order on September 14th at 11:45 a.m.
Rod Van Genderen read the minutes of the Spring 2018 Conference. Julie Leitschuck moved and Chris Frazier seconded the approval of the minutes as read. Upon voice vote of the membership the motion was unanimously approved.
The Treasurer’s report was given by Mr. Van Genderen as follows:

Ms. Leitschuck moved and Scott McEntee seconded to approve the Treasurer’s report. Upon voice vote of the membership the motion was unanimously approved. Mr. Maier announced the 2019 Spring meeting was being planned for Courtyard by Marriott in Ankeny, Iowa on April 25th – 26th.
There being no further business, Mr. Maier asked for a motion to adjourn. Mr. Frazier moved and Ms. Leitschuck seconded. Upon voice vote of the membership the motion was unanimously approved and the meeting was adjourned at 11:49 a.m.
