The adjudicator will choose 2-3 of these excerpts during the audition: Blazhevich Russian Study #5 (No. 85 from Cichowicz Flow Study Book 2) [Page 2] Ives Variations on “America” [Page 2] Fricke Etude No. 23 [Page 3] Holst Second Suite in F for Military Band [Page 3] Shostakovich Festive Overture [Page 4] Music Minors and Non-Music Majors All non-music majors must prepare two contrasting etudes or a trumpet solo piece (movement from a concerto, sonata, etc.) of their choice. CARDINAL JAZZ ORCHESTRA [OPTIONAL] (Lamar University uses a single audition for admission and placement into all ensembles and encourages trumpet performers to aspire towards being a part of the Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Band as well as the Cardinal Jazz Orchestra. However, the decision is at the discretion of each individual performer. Simply let the adjudicators know, during the scheduled audition time, as to which ensemble(s) for which you are auditioning.) The trumpet audition for the Cardinal Jazz Orchestra includes two excerpts. The first excerpt is required for all students wishing to perform in the Cardinal Jazz Orchestra.
