I climbed to the top of the Eiffel Tower and almost got squished to my death

trying to see the Mona Lisa!

Course Description

A rigorous college-level English course that can earn a student college credit

A course focused on a broad range of challenging texts from classic to contemporary.

A course designed to strengthen writing skills in preparation for college level demands.

A course that will mold students into independent thinkers and learners.

Some Academic Course Objectives Score a 3 or higher on the AP Exam scheduled

for MAY 8, 2014 Students will analyze literature both for author

craft/literary elements as well as broader thematic significance

Students will develop an effective use of rhetoric, showing command of logical organization, a variety of sentence structures, and an impressive vocabulary

Students will engage in collaborative discussions with peers

Students will consistently display nuanced, insightful, creative, critical thinking.

Course Materials

All texts will be provided by instructor In-class writing portfolio provided by instructor Perforated Spiral Notebook designated for THIS

CLASS ONLY Class folder/binder to keep all handouts and returned

work organized Blue/Black pens, Colored Pens, Highlighters, Pencils

with Erasers Flags, Tabs, and Post-its for marking pages and

annotating texts Note cards for vocabulary Pocket dictionary, thesaurus USB Flash Drive

Homework/Classwork Policy

Homework will be handed in at the beginning of class and not any other time later in the day: NO EXCUSES.

Class work will be handed in prior to the end of class: NO EXCUSES.

NO LATE WORK will be accepted unless there is evidence of an excused absence (ex: signed letter from parent).

Major assignments will be deducted a letter grade for every day late.

Plagiarism/Academic Dishonesty will result in class failure and school suspension.

Attendance/Tardy Policy

Be in class ON TIME every day! Grade will drop for unexcused

absences There will be school-wide

consequences for tardies! Student is responsible for missed

assignments and/or notes for excused absences.

Daily Procedures

Bring your textbook with you EVERY DAY!

Come in the classroom in uniform with your ID’s ALREADY ON.

Open your notebooks and answer the bellringer in complete sentences (to be turned in at the end of the week).

Take out your homework to turn in and/or prepare your notes for the day.
