Center the drill chuck to the bolt hole, or you
may want to use an end mill to locate the new
hole if the old one has been moved or is badly
damaged.
Set the drill depth so that the distance from where
the side of the drill meets the cutting lip is 1/8”
longer than the plug, from the top of the shoulder
to the end of the threads. Drill the hole to depth.

The plug also can be installed so that it
DOESDOESDOESDOESDOES contact the bottom of the hole. In
this case, the spotfacer is NOTNOTNOTNOTNOT used and
the shoulder does NOTNOTNOTNOTNOT contact the sur-
face.

44NOTE:
This will assure that the tap will go deep
enough to allow the full installation of the
plug without the threads bottoming in the
hole.
In some cases, you wil simply drill all the
way through the wall of the part being
repaired.
33Or the Plug can be installed without using the Spot-
facer. Simply drill, tap and tighten the plug until
the shoulder touches the surface. Machine the head
and shoulder down flush to the surface.
Then resume with Step 14 of these instructions.

Place the Spotfacer in the chuck and lower it
into the hole. Lubricate the pilot with the L750
Cutting Fluid.
55
99
Use the Roughing Tap to tap the hole if one
was included in your kit. Be sure to lubricate
the tap using L750 Cuttling Fluid supplied.
Make sure to leave at least ,040” (1 mm) of
the shoulder protruding above the surface.
Spotface the hole deep enough to accept
approximately 50% of the shoulder of the plug.
77
88
When using a roughing tap first, start the
finishing tap by hand to prevent cross-
threading. Be sure to tap deep enough so that
the shoulder of the plug will seat into the
spotface before the threads bottom in the hole.
66
NOTE:
There are four cutting edges on the
Spotfacer; The smaller diameter will
cut first, then the hook angle cutter
cuts second.

the plug is expanded into the counterbore so there is
no gap between the insert and surrounding material.
Machine the top of the plug down flush with
the surface.
