Instructions for Figurative Language in Poetry Review Game
1. Read the poems “Casey at the Bat” by Ernest Lawrence Thayer, “Valentine for Ernest Mann” by Naomi Shihab Nye, “The Cremation of Sam McGee” by Robert W. Service, “Paul Revere’s Ride” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and “The Naming of Cats” by T.S. Eliot.
2. Look for examples of personification, simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia, and alliteration in each poem.
3. Give five examples of figurative language from each poem. Make sure that you use at least three different figures of language for each poem.
4. Put the line from the text where it says insert question and put the type of figure of speech where it says insert answer.
5. Make sure you put the line in quotes and put the line the text came from after the quote.
