Transportation Goals set in 2003
1. Enhance pedestrian circulation along Commonwealth Avenue and within the Charles River Campus.
2. Limit or reduce trip generation levels at the Charles River Campus
3. Improve traffic operations along Commonwealth Avenue

Transportation Goals set in 20031. Enhance pedestrian circulation along Commonwealth
Avenue and within the Charles River Campus.
• BU was the key stakeholder in the successful implementation CAP1 (financial support).
• Key stakeholder for implementation of improvements at Kenmore Square (financial support)
• Key supporter of the City’s CAP2 project (technical and financial assistance).
• Supporting planning and engineering to improve safety at Commonwealth Ave / BU Bridge.
• Continue to provide incoming freshman with pedestrian safety training during orientation.

• Constructed 2 new Academic/Student Services facilities with No Parking.
• Implemented TDM program that has achieved a 56%rate for sustainable modes for commuters at CRC o Limit Availability of Parking for Studentso Charge Parking Fees for Faculty and Staffo MBTA Pass programs (Students & Administration)o Ride Matching and Car Pool Programs

Campus Changes 2003 -2012: ParkingCurrent Conditions (2011)• 14major off‐street parking facilities (surface lots + structured parking)
• Current parking capacity = 3,636 spaces (includes Alleys in Central/South Campuses)
• Daily commuters pay $1,156/yr for parking permits (+28%)• BU issued only 182 permits to students for overnight parking.
• Only 179 permits issued to “day” commuting students

Campus Changes 2003 -2012: Bicycles• BU has increased bicycle storage
facilities on-campus dramatically since 2003 (Bike Racks/Rooms)
• 2003 capacity = 1,295• 2011 capacity = 3,931 (+200%)• City’s Hubway bike share
program has four locations near CRC (120 bicycles)
• BU encourages students to register bike on-camps. Registered bikes in 2011 = 1,217
