All our programmes help participants acquire strategies and techniques to transfer what they learn back to their organisations. As a participant you will be inspired by our faculty members and reputable speakers, who are renowned for their ability to offer cutting-edge insights to senior executives and professionals at all levels. They will engage, challenge and equip you with knowledge, skills and expertise that will place you ahead of your peers.

AWARD-BEARING PROGRAMMEIAEE partners with PolyU’s Department of Computing to offer an interdisciplinary Executive Master in Digital Leadership programme that specially designed to provide forward looking executives with genuinely innovative professional development experience to become well-equipped leaders in today’s digital economy.

The Institute of Advanced Executive Education (IAEE) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is Your Learning Vista for Dynamic Transformation. Established in January 2011, IAEE develops advanced executive education and provides interdisciplinary courses. We embrace PolyU’s promise of “Opening Minds‧Shaping the Future” in designing programmes for senior executives, organisations and business professionals.

The Institute draws on PolyU’s strengths to offer interdisciplinary executive education programmes in niche areas. Through our programmes, senior executives develop innovative thinking, enhance their leadership skills for strategic and operational excellence.

Advanced Executive Education is one of the four priorities set by the President of PolyU, Professor Timothy W. Tong, in his Inaugural Address in 2009. Led by Mrs Georgina Chan, Director of Institute of Advanced Executive Education, IAEE aims to enhance the University’s reputation and connections with the private, public and professional sectors locally, nationally and globally. Mrs Chan possesses senior management experience with strategic development capabilities, extensive knowledge and skills in education and training gained locally and overseas. Prior to joining PolyU, Mrs Chan had held senior positions with two prestigious professional accountancy bodies, Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs).

“Staying F.O.C.U.S.E.D.”

The purpose of this programme is not to provide answers but to stimulate the generation of “alternatives” to complex unsolved problems, issues/ challenges using the FOCUSED Dice framework. Upon completion of the programme, participants are expected to achieve the following outcomes:

Articulate the importance of the “Staying Focused” philosophy when dealing with complex unsolved problems, issues/ challenges

Identify what core behaviours are needed when applying the FOCUSED framework

Discuss deeper/ wider issues in regards to their own organisational issues

Apply and provide examples demonstrating connected-thinking in how organisations strategise

Explain and describe through examples, the importance of looking at complicated issues through differentiation and integration

Most problems, issues and challenges remain unsolved because we end up resorting to our past habitual attempts without being mindful of new ways of thinking and new ways of doing. This programme will showcase an innovative new strategic thinking framework that is designed to make you think more deeply and peripherally about your organisation's UNSOLVED problems, and in the process, open up alternatives not contemplated before. This framework will guide you to see things differently, so that you see different things.

The overall workshop will use the F.O.C.U.S.E.D. Dice framework, to help open participants’ thinking about complex issues. This strategic thinking tool is invented by Dr. Robert Wright to nurture a habit-of-mind designed to improve the thinking and practice of management. Each letter represents different key behaviours:

F - Bring Fresh Perspective

O - Think, feel and act like an Owner/ Manager

C - Show Connected-thinking

U - Have a Sense of Urgency

S - Show Team SPIRIT

E - Always Engage

D - Exercise Deliberate Practice

The workshop will be highly interactive and will require all participants to come prepared to engage (and learn to improvise in this unique learning environment). Participants will be inspired by speakers with extensive experience in teaching, research and consultancy in the field of strategic thinking. Individual participants or client organisations are encouraged to organise follow-up activities after the programme to take advantage of the momentum to further strengthen the team.
